Nick Sherod updates

R&B, I believe they were comparing Petrie to Scott, not Nick. But, completely agree with your point on Nick. Nick is no Chandler Diekvoss or Kadeem Smithen.

Looks like Nick's St. Chris will be playing in another tourney, starting on the 28th, at Henrico HS. Henrico will also participate, along with DeMonte Buckingham, I presume.
I wonder if there is a chance that St. Chris will be playing against Henrico HS in this tourney. If so, this could be a great game for Richmond'-based Spider fans to go out and see. If anyone is keeping track of the local tourney, and the schedule, please post here if the two future Spiders will face-off against each other, along with the day and time. It would be nice to have a UR cheering section. I could certainly find two hours to watch this game (and our two future Spiders), if I knew when it will be.

It looks like it is 4pm 28th at Glen Allen High School (!?!) vs CD Hylton

Games on 29 & 30 not set

Maybe Glen Allen is home court for out of town teams?

Thanks for the info on the tourney. It is now clear that we can see St. Chris (and Nick) play on Monday, the 28th, at 4 PM (vs. Hylton). Also, we can see DeMonte and Henrico play at 5:30 (Monday) vs. Thomas Dale. The semi-finals and finals are on Wednesday, at 5:30 and 7:15 PM. The only part that is unclear is where the games will be played. .I had read elsewhere that the games were to be hosted by Henrico high school. So, is it Henrico HS, or Glenn Allen (as suggested above)?

Ho hum, another 30 point outing paired with 15 rebounds ….. OSC

ST. CHRISTOPHER'S 65, COLLEGIATE 54
ST. CHRISTOPHER'S (15-1, 3-0 Prep League) Thompson 1, Reinhart 0, Bird 0, Herrera 0, Jasper 4, Bennett 4, Steed 0, Starnes 0, Petrie 24, Essex 0, Tazewell 2, O'Neill 0, Sherod 30. Totals: 25 7-9 65.
COLLEGIATE (5-8, 0-3) Granger 0, Gorsline 4, Villanueva 0, Brewer 0, Justice 14, Williams 0, Wyatt 14, Londrey 6, McGloin 5, Geho 11, Budd 0, Patterson 0, Ritter 0. Totals: 19 12-16 54.
St. Christopher's 16 13 18 18 — 65
Collegiate 17 9 7 21 — 54
3-point goals — STC: Petrie 4, Sherod 4. COLL: Justice 2, Geho 2.
Highlights: Nick Sherod (STC) 15 rebounds; Ned Tazewell (STC) 7 rebounds; Alexander Petrie (STC) 3 steals; Evan Justice (COL) 8 rebounds

Petrie continues to put up some impressive numbers that are just behind Nick's. Nick scores 30, and Petrie comes in at 24. These two scored as many points as Collegiate's entire team (54) in the above game. Petrie also managed 3 steals in this game, suggesting that his defense may not be a weakness, as some have suggested. I hope we are looking at recruiting Petrie also. If we are, our coaches have plenty of oportunties to watch him play, and have a great "reference" source, in Nick. If we are interested in Petrie, I imagine that Nick will help us with the recruiting too....

Nick is the leading scorer in the Richmond area: 27.4 points per game. Monte Buckingham is second at 26.2 points per game. OSC

Petrie is not going to get an offer from UR. If he does, we're in bad shape. Great HS player, but not an A-10 talent. Like NS and DB playing the 4, this should be put to bed.

Spoke to one of Petrie's coaches at recent game and he says UR not recruiting him. That he is not athletic enough for UR but will do well at a lower level. hell of a ball handler and shooter, though.

Does anyone have any relatively new video clips of Nick, perhaps from the X-Mas tourney vs. Henrico? He sank 2-3 "3s" in that game that were all-net and form about 25 feet. I would rather watch some incoming player video at this point than the alternatives... And stay positive about the future too!

+1 Ulla! You are "the man" with video clips!
I believe that all of the above clip is from the tourney final against Henrico, the top-rated team in the Richmond area, so this is an impressive one-game video! P.S. I remember when the lights went out, and could not believe that Nick was able to hit an "all-net" long-3 with them out...

Sherod was at the Davidson game on Monday, looked extremely bored......I wonder what he was thinking?????

^^^ he was thinking how he and his fellow 2016 teammates are going to turn things around!!

It is a good thing that Petrie was along to keep Nick company. Both were probably thinking they wish they had 13 or so 3-point shots to take, and thinking they may be able to sink just a few of those. Too bad they were not able to see the 3-point shooting "clinic" UR put on tonight, in the G-W game. Nick and Alexander were probably wondering how a team can go from so "cold" to so "hot." If shooting is contagious, which it probably is, Nick will be a great guy to get things going in a positive way..

Saw where Nick scored 42 points in a one point lost to Fork Union Wednesday night.

In a rivalry game last night in front of a loud and packed gym, Nick led his team with 24 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Most interestingly, the article refers to Nick as being 6 feet 6 inches tall. OSC

That is a nice night!! I was told he is 6'4" in reality. Wish he could start tonight for UR.

K, I had heard that he was 6' 4" but recently experienced a growth spurt. In any case, he can sure shoot! Cannot wait for him to play next year. When one thinks about it, next year will be VERY different. Cannot recall a single year that the Spiders will feature so much local talent. Let's all support Coach Mooney, his staff and players, and look forward to a great ride the next few years. Roll Spide! OSC

I'm about 6'3 and walked by Sherod on Saturday night to do the old height comparison. He was eye level with me. I could buy 6'4 but no taller. In his defense, he wasn't wearing the 2 inch high tops that all of these guys are measured in these days.

By recent growth spurt, Ulla meant after you passed by...

97, did you neglect to mention that you were wearing your austin powers italian suede boots with 2" heels? "bongiorno, boys".

He told me 6'4". BTW, can you shoot? Any elgiblity left?? Lol

97, I must strongly take issue with your earlier post when you say Sherod is not the same as Diekvoss, Ungerer and Smithen. Scott Ungerer was an excellent player and tough point guard for the Spiders during the Beilein era. He was not the prototypical point guard, but he really got the job done for 4 years here. Tremendous passer and floor leader. Rarely turned the ball over. Heady player. Decent shooter and tough defender at 6'7". To put Scott into the same category as Diekvoss and Smithen is a disservice to an excellent former Spider player.

Phi Delt, I went back and checked and sure as heck I did write that. It was a month ago, so maybe I was a bit heavy into the sauce or more than likely just typing faster than I was thinking.

I will edit that out because you are 100% correct. Still don't know what I was thinking.

97, you know there is a penalty for drinking while message boarding. Not sure what the penalty might be, maybe others can suggest one. OSC

Is that on this board or all boards? If all then I know some people that might be in more trouble then they already are...
