Love our Spiders!I still own a copy of the deliverance song from those days. Students used to rush to the ticket office early to get tickets, in exchange for their coupon, ahhhh the good old days.

I can assure you, Dueling Banjos was played extensively at basketball games in the 1973-74 era, and was very popular. As was Dixie, at football games.
And in those days, students got a ticket coupon book in the fall. You took the coupon book over to the ticket office to redeem the appropriate coupon for a ticket.
I think the decline of the fraternity system has played a large role in the lack of students at games (if what I read from fans who attend current games is true). Especially football. We always had 40-50 brothers at every home FB game, and I expect that was true for the other frats as well.
Fraternity row was alive on home FB weekends, with parties and alums at every lodge, especially at Homecoming. The last few times I've been to games on Homecoming, the lodges were shut down and quiet.
Yep.I sometimes park in B5 for football games and the remaining frat houses-whatever those may be-always seem deserted with nothing happening either inside or outside. That’s a 180 degree change from the good ol days.

I remember the Pika parties before the games but I really can't remember much that happened after that.
Pretty sure the University doesn’t allow game day events at the lodges anymore (or at least doesn’t allow events with alcohol)I sometimes park in B5 for football games and the remaining frat houses-whatever those may be-always seem deserted with nothing happening either inside or outside. That’s a 180 degree change from the good ol days.

Dueling Banjos was a staple of UR basketball games. One or two guys from the student section would run out to mid court and start dancing. Officer Owens, a campus police officer, would walk calmly onto the court and would escort them out. Always a crowd pleaser, usually in the second half.I can assure you, Dueling Banjos was played extensively at basketball games in the 1973-74 era, and was very popular. If they were allowed to have alcohol at the events I'm sure student attendance would increase immenselyThere were a couple of fraternities I know that threw tailgate parties this year. School relaxed a bit on that in hopes of getting more turnout for the games
Totally agree. Since when has "legal" consumption been an issue? A condition of my graduation from UR was that I be placed on probation and attend AA meetings for 4 years, and I was 16 when I graduated high (no pun intended) school.Isn't the drinking age still 21? How would having alcohol available increase student attendance if they can't legally consume it? Don't think the powers that be would allow minors to drink just for added butts in the seats. So glad this wasn't a concern while I was attending. We were good and lubed for all games we attended.
I’m not saying at the games, I’m saying at the on campus pregame parties. And I’m not suggesting Crutcher be at the parties throwing beers to students under 21 lolIsn't the drinking age still 21? Not saying people can’t/don’t sneak alcohol in. But I can tell you that if you wanted a livelier tailgating scene, allowing the frats to openly serve beers on game day would probably improve the atmosphereTotally agree. Is the name of the Performance Center "Blandford-Everett" new? I don't recall hearing, or reading, it's formal name before now.
I assume "Blandford and Everett" must have been lead donors. Many thanks to them for their leadership and our "Move the Chains" donors.
Go Spiders!
Got to take a tour last night. Weight room is complete, and it sounds as if the team will be using it for the first time this morning. Locker room is about 75% complete, and will be ready when they start camp in August. Nutrition bar and sports medicine areas are about 50% completed. All very impressive and will be huge in recruiting. Will be the nicest facilities in the CAA for sure.
Personally, I think the pipes and stuff being visible make it more of a place to do serious work and notDoes anyone know if the weight room is entirely finished? It looks great, but I’m wondering whether they will do any more painting on the walls or cover up the ceiling pipes.

a spa. My gym has no ceiling tiles, and I've never heard anyone complain. (Believe me, there are enough gym prima donnas that they would complain. LOL )
Just sayin’, the Weinstein Center where I work out has visible pipes. Honestly, I think it is really nice. Just my opinion.Sounds like you pay $10 per month for your gym membership,at the most.
Some do, some don’t check #4, #9, #26
