New Coaches

Former coaches

I guess it speaks volumes for the quality of coaches we bring into a small FCS school.
I understand your point, but we have a winning program and not concerned with playing other
FCS programs. The football coach is looking at the football team and not the size of the school.

The point is we recognize quality coaches and bring them in and when they move up we are replacing them with the right people to maintain a winning program. Kudos to Coach Huesman and Coach Wood for maintaining this winning culture and the expectation of both coach and player development at the FCS level. I appreciate the fact that our coaches and players are of the quality that they have options as it means we are brining the right people into our program. I am even more impressed that we have been able to reload the last several years to maintain our level of success. Hopefully that continues in a new conference.

If you attended the games, it was obvious that Huesman and October just did not work well with each other. Constantly arguing and disagreeing on play calling and decisions. It was best that no longer exists. The real answer will be how October preforms as OC At W&M and how our play calling works at UR! We will miss his recruiting and relationships with the players.🕸️🕷️🏈

He should have called a better game. the Woodford game seemed to be where the disagreements seemed to escalate. It’s very possible that Russ knew at that point that he had to intervene in order to save the season. The offense underperformed in the two years October was the play caller. We would look at him very differently if he wasn’t an alum.

Wasn’t the biggest fan of Huesman to start because we didn’t make the playoffs the first four years here and when we had Lauletta Huesman’s first year. But I’ll give credit where’s it’s due. He has done a solid job with this program the last couple years winning back to back CAA titles. For Richmond football though, standard isn’t just making playoffs but making deep runs in the playoffs which I want to see him take that next step.

Still, with the new NIL in football and our best players leaving now every year, Huesman and staff have done a great job recruiting and bringing in the right guys. While his honest interviews may not always be the best thing to say publicly (like saying he’s not a players coach) I do appreciate his willingness to admit fault, the need to do better, and call out stuff like Maryland taking our kicker.

With the move to the PL, we’ll see how it goes but we’re positioned well to succeed. Need to change the transfer rules and bring in Villanova. Then I’ll feel much better about the conference and our future in being a top caliber FCS program.
