Looking like two coaches have recently been hired for the UR football staff:

Wes Satterfield will be the new WR coach. He was OC at AP under Healy, but was "dismissed" in September for personal reasons. Not sure what that meant, cannot find anything other than generic information on line and he has not been active on social media since early September. Did some good things at AP as OC, hopefully nothing to be concerned about and we get a great coach out of the hire.

Johnson Richardson is rumored to be the new TE coach. Was TE coach at Charlotte, played at Wofford. Grandson of former Panthers owner Jerry Richardson.

If Durden is going to coach the QBs, still need to fill DL and RB coaching vacancies. With spring ball starting in three weeks, hires better happen soon.

I like this guy already.

Brandon Lacy begins his 10th season as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana football staff. Prior to the 2016 season, he added the title of assistant head coach. Since arriving at Southeastern, the Edmond, Oklahoma, native has served as the Lions’ defensive line coach after serving as the co-defensive coordinator in 2008 at Division II Angelo State University.

Lacy, a former defensive end at Kansas and a two-time Academic All Big 12 selection, brings an impressive resume to the Lion coaching staff that includes stints at Appalachian State, UT-Martin and Rice. Lacy was the Lions’ recruiting coordinator from 2012-17 and will serve as the run game coordinator beginning in 2018.

During his time with Southeastern, Lacy has tutored 11 All-Southland Conference student-athletes. Lacy’s defensive fronts helped the Lions win back-to-back Southland Conference championships and make consecutive NCAA Division I FCS playoff appearances in 2013 and 2014.

Lacy served as co-defensive coordinator in 2008 at ASU, where he helped the Rams mold a run defense that finished second in the Lone Star Conference after finishing 12th the previous season.

From 2006-07, Lacy worked on the staff at Rice helping the Owls to a 7-6 record in 2006 and their first bowl appearance in 45 years. Working with the Rice defensive line, Lacy coached freshman All-American Cheta Ozougwu and All Conference USA freshman Scott Solomon.

Lacy spent one season at UT Martin where he served as running backs coach and helped guide the Skyhawks to their first winning season in 12 years. Among his pupils was Donald Chapman, who rushed for over 1,300 yards and was named All-Ohio Valley Conference.

Lacy got his coaching start at FCS power Appalachian State in 2003, working under legendary coach Jerry Moore. During his two-year stay in Boone, Lacy helped the Mountaineers to consecutive winning seasons while helping to mold some of the top players in school history that included four eventual Buck Buchanan award nominees (KT Stovall, Cory Lynch, Jeremy Wiggins, Marques Murrell).

Lacy played two seasons at UT Martin where he led the Skyhawks in sacks both seasons and was a four-time OVC Defensive Player of the Week. He played his final two seasons at KU, playing for coaches Terry Allen and Mark Mangino, while earning the Jayhawk Scholar Athlete Award and being named to the KU Honor Roll three times.

Lacy earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics at KU in 2003 and received graduate credit in Sport Psychology from Rice. He is a member of the American Football Coaches Association, the Black Coaches Association and has membership in both the Oklahoma and Texas High School Coaches Association.

Lacy and his wife, Jessica, reside in Hammond and are the parents of three sons, Tre, Brandon, Jr., and Julius.

Coaching Career

2007-09 – North Carolina (offensive quality control/graduate assistant)

2010-11 – Ohio State (graduate assistant)

2012 – Chattanooga (tight ends coach)

2013 – Chattanooga (running backs coach)

2014-15 – Southeastern Louisiana (quarterbacks coach)

2016-2018(Sept)-Austin Peay(OC and QB coach)

A third-generation coach, Satterfield was an all-state quarterback and kicker at Trousdale County High, where his father and previously his grandfather served as head football coach. He is a native of Hartsville, Tennessee.

APSU Healy on Satterfield: “I think he is unbelievable schematically. He’s got a lot of recruiting connections and he’s a great person on top of it. He works extremely hard at it, he’s got really good ideas and knows how to relate to players. He’s one of the best I’ve ever been around in terms of coaching the quarterback position. He’s the total package; he’s exactly what we were looking for.”

What they’re saying about Wesley Satterfield

“He did a great job here. He’s one of the bright, up-and-coming stars in our profession. He was a big part of our championship in 2014 and he’s going to have huge success in our profession. Austin Peay made a great move in hiring him.” – Ron Roberts, head coach, Southeastern Louisiana

“Austin Peay’s really lucky to have a guy like Wes. He’s unbelievably bright, very hard-working and just gets along well with everyone. He’s got a lot of natural leadership about him that will translate in the meeting room and on the field.” – John Shoop, former Purdue Offensive Coordinator

Satterfield & Lacy jump off the page (at least to me). We’re not going to find someone equal to Sparky but hopefully we can find the energy and bring some more passion to the field next year.

Football Adds Three To Huesman’s Coaching Staff

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond head football coach Russ Huesman announced changes to his football staff Wednesday with the additions of Brandon Lacy, Wesley Satterfield and Johnson Richardson. The three coaches joins the Spiders' staff and one more addition will be announced at a later date along with full staff responsibilities.

Lacy joins the Spiders with an impressive defensive resume, bringing 16 years of NCAA coaching experience to Richmond. During his career he has coached six different defensive lineman to All-America honors and had seven different players move on to careers in the National Football League.

Lacy spent the past 10 years as the assistant head coach, defensive run game coordinator, recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach at Southeastern Louisiana. During his time in Hammond, he was part of two Southland Conference championships teams in 2014 and 2013. As recruiting coordinator, he helped the Lions earn the No. 1 rated FCS recruiting class in the country in 2010.

Lacy led the Lions' defense that finished 2014 ranked seventh in total defense in the country, eighth in scoring defense, 18th in rushing defense and 28th in total sacks. His 2013 team finished ranked No. 6 in the country in the final polls and was 24th in the country in tackles for loss. Prior to Southeastern Louisiana, he spent the 2008 season at Angelo State as the Defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator.

Lacy spent two seasons as the defensive line graduate assistant at Rice, tutoring one Freshman All-America selection. He also was an defensive line intern with the Houston Texas under head coach Gary Kubiak in 2008. Lacy has made stops at Ferrum College (2006), Tennessee-Martin (2005) and Appalachian State (2003-04). He played collegiately for two years at Tennessee-Martin (1998-99) and two years at Kansas (2001-02),

Satterfield brings 12 years of experience to the Spiders at both the FCS and FBS levels. He most recently spent three years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Austin Peay (2016-18) under former Spider Will Healy. In 2017, Austin Peay led the Ohio Valley Conference in total offensive and rushing yards, while ranking sixth in the nation on the ground. The offense set school records for total offense, points, yards per game, yards per play, touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, rushing yards and yards per rush.

Satterfield oversaw the play of FCS First Team All-America quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall, who also won the OVC Freshman of the Year. He spent two seasons as the quarterbacks coach and run game coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana from 2014-15. He guided senior quarterback Bryan Bennett to Southland Conference Offensive Player of the year honors and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.

Satterfield will be making his second stint on Huesman's staff as he spent two seasons at Chattanooga from 2012-13 as the tight ends and running backs coach. He led tight end Faysal Shafaat to Third Team All-America honors during his time with the Mocs. Satterfield spent three seasons at and offensive/special teams graduate assistant at Ohio State for head coaches Jim Tressel and Luke Fickell. He began his coaching career at North Carolina as an offensive graduate assistant under Butch Davis (2007-10). Satterfield played four years at the University of the South from 2003-06.

Richardson joins the Spiders after spending the past seven years on the staff at Charlotte. He spent six years, including the past two, coaching the 49ers' tight ends. He mentored All-Conference USA selection Chris Phillips during his time at tight ends. He spent one season (2016) as the offensive line coach, guiding Nate Davis to an All-Conference USA selection. He began his career at Charlotte as an offensive intern from 2012-13, working primarily with the tight ends.

Richardson began his coaching career as an offensive graduate assistant at Wingate. He worked with the offensive line and tight ends during his time with the Bulldogs while also handing Director of Football Operations duties. Richardson was a four-year letterwinner at Wofford (2006-09), helping the Terriers win the Southern Conference championship in 2007. Wofford appeared in a pair of FCS playoffs during his time, including a quarterfinal appearance in 2007.

On the surface, these look like good hires.

I don't see anywhere that confirms what position Satterfield will be working with. WR?

Bobby Maffei joined the Baylor football staff in January 2017. He serves as a defensive quality control coach.

Maffei came to Baylor after spending the 2016 season as the cornerbacks coach at Tennessee Tech. Under the guidance of Maffei at TTU, Maleek Hall finished the season with 30 tackles, 10 breakups, two interceptions and one sack. His cornerback group finished with 30 combined PBUs.

Maffei also served as director of community outreach during his stint at Tennessee Tech. During that time, the Golden Eagles completed more than 1,000 hours of community service.

Previously he spent two seasons (2014-2015) on Matt Rhule's staff at Temple as a graduate assistant working with the defense and special teams.

Maffei moved to Temple from Pace University where he was a wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator in 2014.

Prior to his appointment at Pace, he spent three seasons at Central Connecticut State in a variety of roles. He began as director of football operations where he organized team travel, directed summer camps, and organized recruiting visits. In 2011, along with his operations role he handled quality control for the defense.

In 2012 he became the wide receivers coach and in 2013 added the responsibility of special teams coordinator. Under Maffei's tutelage, Deven Baker earned a training camp spot with the Oakland Raiders in 2012. In 2013, Tyrell Holmes was named to the All-Northeast Conference team at receiver and Rob Hollomon led the NEC in kick-off returns at 29.6 ypr -- a total that ranked 10th nationally.

The Trumbull, Conn., native, began his coaching career as a student assistant at Nebraska. He graduated from Nebraska in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in educational and human sciences. He completed a master's degree in educational leadership at Temple in 2016.
