Think we will have more this year, even though much was lost. Check out this evaluation: OSC

Putting a lot on the backs of freshmen. My guess is one of the three will be up to the challenge.
The other two will be freshmen.
I hope I'm mistaken but if history is any indicator I don't think I am.

I think all 3 of our freshmen will make contributions. There are plenty of precedents. Not predicting a great year, but not precluding one either.

I believe that we have 3 very special freshmen who will rise up to the occasion. They will also play a major role in helping our returning players reach new heights (making the ncaa's).

I don't know enough about Golden, but Sherod is the leading scorer in the history of Virginia high school basketball, and Buckingham wasn't too far behind and won a state title. Those two guys are legit 4-year starters for lots of teams, including ours. They're going to be very good.

yeah, I'm in the boat with the aggressive believers. one, I don't think these 3 are normal UR freshmen. two, there's not an abundance of returning proven talent. the door is open for them.

if only one pans out this year, then everyone was wrong about them or some others unexpectedly stepped up.

Drove out to Hagerstown to watch the Golden brothers in a game against their biggest rival. Grant may be our best recruit. But all three are very, very good. OSC

If Grant is playing 20+ minutes next year we will be good. One of the freshmen will start.

Seen him play at some workouts and he reminds me somewhat of Dan Geroit. I'll take that if he can be that.

DB is going to be the next great one and NS if he can hold up with conditioning his range is going to be a problem for a lot of teams.

Ferrum, we must not be looking at the same player. The Grant Golden I have seen bears NO resemblance to Dan Geriot. Grant is MUCH more athletic and immensely more skilled. Look, I loved Dan, but absolutely NO comparison. Two very diffrent guys. Truly have NO idea where you are coming from. OSC

I think we may be right this year. Best feeling I have had in 5 years about an incoming class. This year is a rare one
where many of us have seen these kids play. Also, basketball is becoming a different game with all 5 kids shooting from outside and not so dependent on the big bruiser inside players anymore. Since we gave up rebounding 11 years ago, we should be in good shape for these kids fo compete rigjt away.

Hope your right. Again only saw him a couple of times just doing drills but I realy liked what I saw. Haven't seen him in game situations to make that judgement. Remember DG was much more athletic before his injury and was the only sophomore to make All A10 the year he did it. Don't think anyone would complain if GG was good or even better. Expect significant PT from him.

Dan was a heck of a player. the guy scored almost 1400, tearing his ACL halfway though his career. awesome passer too. saying Grant reminds of Dan is no insult.

Still very concerned with the lack of interior depth. It's asking a lot of a freshmen big man to defend an experienced A10 calibre post player.

Grant's a big strong kid. bigger than the senior bigs he's replacing. he'll be fine. and almost all of the best rebounding bigs in the league were seniors last year.
I can't wait to see some Paul, too.

Agreed, if Grant has Dan's career, I think we are all going to be really happy. Now, is his game different than Geriot's the answer to that question I don't know.

97, guess I was not clear. My point was that Grant's skillset is different from Dan. In fact, among our current players, Grant is maybe more like Marshall Wood. Grant is quick, has a good handle, can create his own shot from 3-point range, and is a very good jumper. Look, Dan was good at what he did and was really tough, but just a very different player from Grant. OSC

That is what I thought you meant. To me, the big question with Grant is not his offense but rather his defense. He is going to have to bang inside with some very big guys and then because of our switching defense have to guard smaller quicker players at times as well. Is he able to do that without getting exposed defensively?

Both Grant and his brother Bryce are quick. In fact, watching them play, they were very similar save for Grant being older was more of the team leader. OSC

Agree on the defense question. We need a lot more out of the 4 than just offense. It is hard to imagine us scoring more efficiently this year than last year, if we are going to be a better team we will need to play better defense.

Especially when we play LaSalle.

not that's a college ready freshman class!

also of note ... TJ and Marshall shed 5 lbs
Friendshuh added 5 lbs
Stansbury measures in at 6'7" 225
Abaka is 6'8" 215

I hope stansbury gets a waiver to play right away. That would finally place someone in the "junior" class.

yeah I'm not hopeful but if Stansbury can play this year it would be great. Speaking of roster, do we still have that Zach Patterson walkon or he is one of those ones you can't announce until enrolled?

I will also say, this has been a pretty interesting off season. Summer is usually pretty boring on the board, debating whether JJ or JP will challenge for ROY, etc. This year with the grad transfer, failed grad transfer, hyped freshman class, Solly signing and now wait for NCAA decision, Euro trip upcoming, etc. we have had some news to digest every week or so.

And one more interesting thing is unresolved. 15 players, 13 available scholarships. Do we know if one goes to Kirby, Fletcher, or Oddo this year?

I don't remember that debate but I hope we didn't expend too much energy on it. The difference between this year's freshman class and last years, or the years prior, or the year before that is literally night and day.
