There are a lot of positives for our basketball program that have been previously mentioned on this board including: Young team that improved significantly during last season, with top 7 players coming back: Adding a highly ranked recruit with the addition of potentially other recruits and redshirt players; Building new $15 million state of the art basketball practice facility: New AD committed to improving program: Hopefully changes to recruiting strategy for basketball. At the same time many of the top A10 teams are losing their top players.

Our team should be much better next year and has a chance to finish in one of the top spots of the A10.

Typically the A10 coach of the year award goes to the coach of the team that improves significantly from the year before and finishes near the top of the A10. Mooney might be selected as the A10 coach of the year for 2018-2019.

FYI, I have never met or talked to Mooney or any other person on his coaching staff.

I could actually see this occurring if Bryce comes here and contributes right away, we sign another stud grad transfer. We could potentially out talent the A10 since will be down and URI will be in transition. The title on its own really give me a good laugh.

It's like there is a thread-generation machine just set on "repeat."

The OP is correct, there are 14 potential 2018-2019 A10 coaches of the year, and as of this date, Mooney is one of them.

2006 Karl Hobbs George Washington
2007 Jim Baron Rhode Island
2008 Sean Miller Xavier
2009 Jim Baron Rhode Island
2010 Fran Dunphy Temple
2011 Chris Mack Xavier
2012 Fran Dunphy Temple
2013 Jim Crews Saint Louis
2014 Jim Crews Saint Louis
2015 Bob McKillop Davidson
2016 Mark Schmidt St. Bonaventure
2017 Archie Miller Dayton
2018 Dan Hurley Rhode Island

These threads have gone from delusional, to absurd to moronic. Mooney isn't the answer, his record speaks for itself. How can you argue that. Not good, not bad, wait until next year. I personally have decided to not get sucked into anymore next year's. 12 and 20 sucks any way you want to spin it therefore, Mooney sucks and Richmond basketball sucks.

If Richmond somehow wins 23 games next year. And finish second in the conference next year. Then Mooney gets my respect. However, so many transfers and potential coaching changes between now and next year. Just looking at past history, my prediction would be to win 19 games lose in the second round of the Atlantic 10 tournament. Next year: St.Joseph's, St.Louis, Davidson and Richmond would be my top four. However, Umass and Duquesne bring a lot back.

Fordham, VCU, Lasalle, GW, Rhode Island, St.Bonaventure should be rebuilding.

We should win the A-10 next year considering we return basically everyone next year. However, St.Joseph's and St.Louis and Davidson will finish near the top. Nothing is a guarantee that's why the games are played.

You do know we were 12-20 (9-9), right?

The list I posted above proves that statement to be yet another fallacy. To quote a UR Trustee, "Posters are horribly misinformed."

Of the 13 A10 COY during Mooney's tenure, only 3 fit that description: Baron both times (though he did go to the NIT the year before his second COY), and Schmidt.
All of the others had significant success the year before they won COY, with most of them in the NCAA and conference champ (either regular season or tourney) both years.
Edited to add: Crews was COY his first year as HC at St. Louis, but they were an NCAA 3rd round team the year before.

This is the absolute essence of Mooney Truthism.

If we win next year it won't be because of his coaching, it'll be the natural maturation of the players. The reason we went 12-20 this year was the coach and the recruitment of talent, or lack thereof. I can tell you we won't be great at free throws and rebounding.

We were slightly above average at free throw percentage and defensive rebounding last year. Best defensive rebounding team we have had under Mooney by far.

Looks like to me we were ranked 345 of 351 in rebounding this year. That could be higher than our average during the Mooney years. I didn’t check.

The minimum for me is winning 20 plus games and making the NCAA tournament. However, based on past performance I figure we will play in the NIT.

I think the stars are aliened for our basketball program over the next couple years as mentioned in the beginning of the post. The expectations for Mooney will be very high and I think he will deliver. If he doesn't his contract will not be renewed.

That's a real ultimatum. "Do better, or else...we will keep paying you $1.2 million a year for four years. And THEN we won't bring you back!"

You keep saying this like it is some stone cold lock that all of our players are returning. Lots of transfers will be announcing in the next few weeks, let us revisit after transfer season and see if this is still the case.

If the Spiders finished 18-14 last year and had the top 7 players coming back, then your assertion would stand a much better chance of being accurate.

12-20, undersized, thin to no bench, and a .500 coach with significant flaws, it ain't going to happen!

**** Bringing Bryce Golden on board could move the needle, but the chance of that is slim.

I don't think it is unreasonable to think they'll come back. There have been no rumors of any of our players transferring or anything credible to say any are considering it. It is possible one or all 7 returning players transfer but right now the only speculation of it is posters on here who think anybody who wants to come play for Mooney must have brain damage. I think it is pretty reasonable to let conversations go on considering that the 7 players are returning and we can discuss next season with them in mind.

You need to be paying closer attention than.

The rumors I hear are saying that 2 starters and possibly 3 may transfer, with KF being the most likely. If we lose KF, and we pick up BG, I think all is relatively well. More than that and no Bryce pick-up will be an unmitigated disaster. Perhaps the true measure of CM's coaching mettle will be whether he is able to keep our current group in the fold, and if not, how capable are the potential replacements he is able to cobble together.

Are these credible sources or just people on twitter or on message boards like this one with no credibility. Seems pretty easy to just make up a rumor and get some steam rolling.

I think I've paid pretty close attention. So far the only rumors are people who would have no idea and seem to be saying it to stir the pot and get clicks on twitter and a brand new account on here whose first post was to say they allegedly had a daughter who is a cheerleader who knows the players and said they will be transferring. Which is an odd thing for a player to tell a cheerleader to tell her father to tell an online message board. It just feels like to me that all of the rumors on transfers are just from people like you and me who don't have any inside intel but are just going off what they think the players will do based on their disdain for Mooney.

Or we could revisit at the end of July, when most roster shuffling around the country should be finished...

I just searched "Khwan Fore transfer" on twitter and not a single tweet came up.

there's no benefit to not declaring it yet, so nobody has decided to transfer as of now.
maybe they're waiting to see what Bryce decides. :)

Well that settles that!

I'm not saying it does...I'm just asking where people heard these rumors. Right now I haven't been able to find anything via a google search or on any social media platform. No rumors from any media outlet or even fake rumors from VCU fans/trolls about a transfer. If these rumors are out there where are they?

Everything is just a rumor until it no longer is.

Haha that's something I can see Jaden Smith saying.

But what I mean is I keep seeing people post about how they're hearing lots of rumors of certain players transferring. Who are these rumors coming from? I've scoured the internet and cannot find a single mention of them. So far the only ones I can find are from posters on here and I know that is all just speculation and has no merit. Really all I want is to be able to see where the rumors are coming from so that I can actually be worried about the possibility of transfers.

Rumors are coming from cheerleader's parents.

A lot of people are close to the program, and certainly some of them know more than the average poster on a message board.

Rumors are coming from cheerleader's parents.

From the alleged parent of an alleged cheerleader. I could easily have made a new account and claimed to be an uncle or cousin of the Golden's and feed made up intel on what he is thinking.
