Mooney misses NCAAs for the ninth straight year

We will give him a 1.0 credit for this one. I think the team earned a spot in the field - if it were to be played. Only thing that may have held us back in the end if we hadn't got in was Loonardi's scheduling. But coaches and players did what they had to and earned it with their play and winning games.

That would be awesome. I think they owe it to the teams to announce the field, at least.

I would love this but my only concern is that since no games will be played the committee will pick the P6 teams over us to appease them since their decisions won’t end up affecting a nonexistent tournament.

Just saw a tweet that their may be a selection show anyway???????????????????????????????????????????????

Weird I posted that on another thread but I hadn't seen or heard of it, I was just joking.

I bet it would get a ton of eyes though if they wanted to do it just for old times sake.

I'll give Mooney some credit too. (I'll keep my feelings for Hardt and Lunardi out of this). The team was great. I've seen them play in person or on TV enough to know that. We were in. Can't really hold Mooney responsible for a world outbreak.

Again heart and head...IN. All this stuff on board you don't want to jinx it so I wasn't going to drop mortal lock on it since it had been 8 years. But mortal lock IN. Do the selections anyway...IN.

It was earned, I'm counting it myself but still would be nice they get on a conf call or whatever and release the bracket so you can officially say you made it, I think that means something for a lot even Mooney given the drought and pressure.

What's really too bad is I thought we'd win multiple games too. I was NCAA expectations from get go so trust me on that.

NCAA. No bust.

Or they will pick all of the bubble non-P6 schools since they aren't going to play anyway. Mute the argument they favor the P6 schools.

And give each school picked one NCAA credit.

I say have the selection show, then run simulated games. literally 2 hour computer simulated games. play by play, full stats, with the same schedule we'd have it they were real. we could still run bracket pools and waste just as much office productivity as ever.

Brilliant. "Sure, we totally would have put Memphis, Richmond, UNI, Wichita, and Cincinnati in."

He made the necessary changes. I completely agree. I think Hardt gave him the "or else" but I can understand your position. This team is so different than what we've been accustomed to.

You heard it here first. Assuming we're still alive, the boycott ends next season. We'll be an advertiser, too.

I'm going to take some time off from the forum for a while; there won't be much to talk about and it sure feels like I've invested a ton of time that was ultimately wasted. Nobody's fault.

OK, I blame China.

Last year 137 people died from falling coconuts (not kidding).

Grab the chain saws, we've got a lot of trees to cut down.

Did one person spread the deadly disease that is gravity?

What a terrible false equivalence. Quit using your emotional energy to make ignorant comments. All of us are crushed and willing to bet the players are even more devastated. You're better than this Rick. Stay safe.

That would be interesting.
I wouldn't be surprised if this happened because all the sports folks have basically nothing to talk about over the next few weeks if not couple of months. Maybe they delay it a week, so they can spend some time ruminating on the various cancellations, how it all went down, etc.

However, it is totally meaningless. First, they have to assume all the tournament winners for the auto-qualifiers. You know based on this year's results to date that picking tournament winners would not be an easy task. The ACC had at least 4 teams that could have won, probably 3 from the Big East, at least 2 from Big 12, 4 from the Big 10, 3 from Pac-12, etc. I am sure there are arguments as folks read this on the numbers I picked and I admit there is no in depth analysis on any numbers I picked. Second, they probably wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings so it probably would be an "everyone gets a trophy moment". If X had beaten Y then we would have put X in the 12 seed; however, if Y had won then they would have been the 11 seed, etc, etc, etc. So if you think you are going to get validation from the show, dream on.

haha, I was actually having the same thought. I would put my 10 bucks in a pool and bet on it. Lately I am pretty much done by Friday night anyway.

And I will give a big Congrats to Mooney, Jones, Jenkins and all the players. This was a vintage Mooney 2010-2011 team and job. As scary and crazy as the virus talk is, it is starting to sink in the missed opportunity for the players, and players at a bunch of schools. The coaches and players had a great season, and anytime they had a loss or uninspired game, they bounced back with a big win and great effort. Between the Spiders and SDSU Aztecs, this was the most fun I had watching college hoops in several years. Really bites that we don't get a chance to show our stuff. Thought Dayton and SDSU also had great opportunities to go very deep, but we will never know. Great opportunity for the Spiders to do it again next year. It's not as easy as just showing up, but maybe the missed opportunity provides some extra motivation all off season and next year, and with Burton emerging, Wilson coming in, and Crabtree in the fray I think we will have some great competition that has been missing for years. I am hoping in about a months or 6 weeks we are asking: Why the heck did we cancel the tournament? Stay safe and let me know if you need some toilet paper, I have stockpiled 23,233,023 rolls and will sell at a super price for Spider fans.:):):)

This team was special, they deserved to dance.
They are special, undersized, not as athletic as some but great heart, the team was greater than the sum of it’s parts. Just a great bunch of complimenting skills. It is a shame it had to end this way. I hope they take the bad luck as motivation for next year.

If I’m Mooney, I’m mean Lunardi, I’m scheduling COVID for my home-opener next year, and then I’m kicking its ass all over the court.

In this day an age, has nothing to do with the virus, they’d be more worried about hurting feelings. Just a guess though.

OK call it something else (eg Teams of Distinction) and list them in alphabetical order -- say 72 teams, and award them each one NCAA unit.
