Mike Houston to Charlotte

I’m a little confused. Did he ever agree to be the Charlotte coach, or was that a premature
media assumption. (Aka- fake news? Lol)

Tough to know. With social media any "rumor" is quickly promulgated. Speculation would be that Houston agreed verbally, didn't sign a contract, and then when ECU came along that turned out to be more to his liking so he dumped Charlotte.

Very possible Houston’s reps leaked it. This week at jmu rivaled or even surpassed ours w London & Rocco. Plus they lost to Colgate. It would have been even more amusing if their last 2 coaches went to Texas State and Charlotte. Lol. I never expected Charlotte to occur. But that’s ok he’s a good coach and he’s gone. They have a lot returning and new coach will walk into a good team though. Just hope it’s not Will Healy that would suck.

I-M that’s actually not a bad proposal imo.

Easy now. We did hire Jim Reid away from UMass.

?? Reid had been let go by Umass when he became DC here. Btw Reid former assistant Joe Cullen was apparently a finalist for Umass coach. He interviewed but they hired someone else.

Could see Cignetti at jmu. Shane Beamer longshot. Just hope they r not smart enough to go after Healy.

Houston did almost make it to 1 year anniversary of signing his 10 year deal. Not bad. Probably thought he was in purgatory. Nah it was just Harrisonburg.

kind of shows that 10 year contracts are more window-dressing than muscle. says that ecu paid umwcah $750,000 to get him out of it. will be interesting to see what his new staff looks like in greenville.

Will Healy to Charlotte

Charlotte AD did a great job targeting Houston then Healy. Don't know what happened with the Houston leak but he had right coaches in mind for that job.

Honestly I think the Charlotte job might be better. Certainly ECU is paying more, much bigger fanbase etc. but also harder expectations in tougher league. If Houston does well at ECU he'll be able to move up, but I think the move up may be to same type of job from Charlotte too if you do well. Plus lower expectations at Charlotte, if you get into a couple of those crap bowls you look great. They seem to be putting lot of $ into the program and Healy will able to attack Charlotte and Atlanta recruiting. Could be easier to succeed out of CUSA and work out better longer term. I have feeling Healy will get a big time job eventually, we'll see.

Sounds like their OL coach Shankweiler will be heading that way too. Twitter references about "getting the band back together" could mean both Kirkpatrick and Shankweiler, both formerly on the ECU staff, will be heading there. Wonder how many assistants JMU will allow Houston to take?

As many as he wants. Coaches can work wherever they want.

It looks like the NDSU coach is the #1 target of Kansas State.

So....winners of the last 4 FCS national championships (and overwhelming favorite for #5 this year) gone?
