Mens 2024 - 2025 Polls/Rankings/Awards

Questions:

where are these outbracket games being played? With only 2 games per day at most a neutral site seems unlikely that this has any sort of conference tournament type feel to it. But asking teams to play so many nights consecutively, means that it is all at one location. No idea how they expect to draw anyone for the first 3-4 days of it.

Top 4 teams will all have about a week off or more, less than ideal, usually that is only for TV purposes to get a conf. championship on tv, that's a long time off at the end of a season for anyone.

The whole thing is in Pensacola with the men’s and women’s tournaments going on simultaneously. Two women’s games in the first session and two men’s games in the second session each day until the finals.

OK that makes a little bit more sense to at least have a full day of games each day. I was legit wondering who would be there the first 3 days otherwise as the dregs of the conference battled it out to make the round before the quarterfinals (winning 4 games to make the quaterfinals, smh)

They already had been holding the men's and women's tournaments simultaneously over a 7-day period, but with more traditional brackets with fewer byes, each one was stretched out with rest days.

Tuesday: 2 first-round games each for men and women
Wednesday: 4 second-round games for women
Thursday: 4 second-round games for men
Friday: 4 quarterfinal games for women
Saturday: 4 quarterfinal games for men
Sunday: 2 semifinal games each for women and men
Monday: finals for women and men

That might have been even worse for fan interest if you're only interested in men or women given those multiple break days. Most of the men's games only drew 700–2,500.

1 week into season and we're into the root against VCU's at large chances phase. The team most of the board doesn't think is that great. It would be nice to root for our own. But we are used to it in the Mooney era. This is the exact scenario we get virtually every year.

Now that I have looked into it, they are right about VCU. They have some talent and just importantly a legitimate coach. Moon is not going to gain any ground this season.

I had the misfortune of attending the vcu game last night. They shot poorly from three, as they often do, and generally speaking they don't have much of a half court game on offense, but they make up for those deficiencies by being incredibly aggressive and active. This is really nothing new, but the difference between that and the way we play is striking.

They do not get complacent when they are up. They keep attacking. They missed a lot of shots, but guess what? They actually try hard to get offensive rebounds! It's an amazing concept. And it allows them to be sloppy but still win against a bad team by 25 points.

I hope you were able to get lots of rebates on your trip to Costco.

Right. Teams that have a sustained aggressive and defensive mindset have a good base to excel. We have to everything right to win. Exception being last season when we have DAWGS like King, Harris, Dji, and Bigs.
This year our wings need to shoot 6 for 8 from 3 to win that position, because otherwise they are mostly just floating around out on the court.

Happy Sunday morning ... sigh

There has been so much thought and discussion through the years about how to strengthen the A10 and improve it's position which almost always leads to "if we could just get rid of the dead weight LaSalle, GW, Duquesne, etc etc we would be so much better off". Pretty sobering to see that we are currently the dead weight. Wonder where our ranking would fit in among the Patriot League 😏

When the highlight of the week of massive wins for the league is a victory over Princeton, one might lead you to think this post is a bit hyperbole.

Also of note, Mooney on track from a first to worst in the A-10. I wonder if that has ever been done before.

I do think we are capable of shooting better than 26% from 3 but at some point we have to accept that maybe it won’t be that much better and that this is the norm this year. The way we shoot in practice/scrimmages is not the same as an actual game. As a team, we need to be more dynamic in our scoring than hinging on the 3 ball to win us games. It has not so far and against weaker competition too.

Mooney's typical answer after a loss is "shoot better", so this is par for the course. This is something that a rec coach would tell a bunch of 9 years olds at the YMCA rec league after a loss. If we just shoot better next time, we might have a chance at winning.

Auburn only behind KS by 9 points ..

UConn 25th ; Dayton ~39th with 24 points - logical right?
Loyola 4 points.
One spot ahead of UCONN is.................. 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀
