Masks required at the RC this year

We don't want to catch Covid from the players
  • All are required to wear masks while inside the Robins Center (including restrooms) unless actively eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status.

Glad it is second one instead of first. Not sure how players on both teams would handle it on the court during play...

I hear you, but I got a 10 year old that can't be vaxxed yet, so I think such a policy would proclude families with children to attend.
I find it possible that we learn that masks just provide you a false sense of security. And the fact that the media and big tech won’t let us believe otherwise is troubling — just try to google about effectiveness of mask wearing and you essentially find the exact same message and article (usually I think that means something else is at play other than revealing the truth or facts).

Look at the studies about masks and the spread of disease before this issue became political. Or the words of Fauci at the beginning of the pandemic.

“And for more than a decade, every single scientific study of masks has found that they don’t prevent the spread of illnesses like the cold or flu.

In 2009, the American Journal of Infection Control concluded “face mask use in health care workers was not demonstrated to provide benefit in terms of cold symptoms or getting colds.”

A year later, a study in Epidemiology and Infection entitled “Face masks to prevent transmission of influenza virus: A systematic review” found that “none of the studies reviewed showed a benefit from wearing a mask, in either health care workers or community members in households.”

In 2012, researchers published a study called “The use of masks and respirators to prevent transmission of influenza: a systematic review of the scientific evidence” and found “There were 17 eligible studies. … None of the studies established a conclusive relationship between mask/respirator use and protection against influenza infection.”

In 2016, a study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal “found no significant difference between N95 respirators and surgical masks in associated risk of (a) laboratory-confirmed respiratory infection, (b) influenza-like illness, or (c) reported work-place absenteeism.”

A 2019 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association determined that “among outpatient health care personnel, N95 respirators vs medical masks as worn by participants in this trial resulted in no significant difference in the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza.”

And even a study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Medicine on February 12, 2020, a month before America’s COVID-19 panic set in, concluded that “there were no statistically significant differences in preventing laboratory-confirmed influenza, laboratory-confirmed respiratory viral infections, laboratory-confirmed respiratory infection, and influenza-like illness using N95 respirators and surgical masks.””

You did a nice job proving your point.

Your entire thesis from cut and paste reference sheets is both outdated and tied ONLY to influenza Transmission.

Try again in reference to Covid 19 and its variants which is significantly more contagious and deadly than the flu.

Nice try.

Every doctor worth a damn says wearing masks helps. Even if it just helps a little, why not do it? It's the right decision for our home games this year.

i made no suggestion that I typed out each study. In fact, I put it in quotes and included a link to the article. Try to find another one similar — you can’t as google and others are limiting the information you can see and that’s scary!

If you did any additional research, you’d find that the particle size of covid and influenza droplets are similar. If this is true, why would masks be more effective at stopping COVID than flu and cold viruses? If anything, the mask quality has gotten worse as we’ve moved to cloth masks and low quality producers have entered the market to meet the increased demand from mask mandates, etc.

Similarly, doesn’t it bother you that we would see non-stop stories about Florida when cases were bad there and now we see nothing when their rates are the lowest in the country? They stayed consistent with their approach, proving many “experts” wrong but we don’t hear about it since it doesn’t fit the narrative.

I'm not going to debate the value of wearing masks on a basketball message board. If 1,000 people in the Robins Center have covid, ask your doctor if you are more or less likely to get covid if they are all masked or all unmasked and get back to me.
Not going to debate it yet you keep replying. Curious approach. :)

Yes, Florida stayed consistent with their approach, but they did not prove experts wrong.....they killed people. Just from July, Florida has 21,000 covid deaths. California, with nearly twice the population of Florida, has 8,600. Yet, Deshitas wants to take a victory lap? Wow. Congrats on killing people dumb ass. And, to keep this on topic, I am glad they are saying you need to wear masks to the games this year.

People that feel better by wearing a mask should wear one. As Long Island Spiders pointed out, science says that common cloth masks have virtually no benefit in reducing the spread of COVID. However, pandemic response has not been based on science from the beginning. Bottom line, do what you feel is best for you and your family. Everyone doesn't have to agree.

If I believed that 1000 people in the Robins Center had COVID, it would likely be best If I made the decision not to be there.

Yall have fun. I'll watch on TV. Most masks that people like EL wear have been proven to be useless. And even if they were effective, I guess the virus won't spread if you are eating or drinking. Stupid policy.

Really? Let me sneeze on you with and without a mask. Which do you feel safer with.
But the conservative Wisconsin think tank cited above says masks don't work, and clearly that trumps what the CDC, Mayo Clinic, NIH, surgeon general, all 50 state health departments, hospitals, family physicians and pediatricians nationwide say...

First of all, great unbiased source you chose. Oh wait, you went with a source that has a strong conservative bias and asserts that Trump won the election. Second, I could cherry pick certain quotes to serve my purposes too. For example, the one and only link I clicked on sent me to a link from Cambridge which seems to contradict the quote you posted. It says, “There is some evidence to support the wearing of masks or respirators during illness to protect others, and public health emphasis on mask wearing during illness may help to reduce influenza virus transmission.” Did you take any courses at UR that required you to do research?

Pretty sad some of you would consider not going to games just because you have to wear a mask. No one enjoys wearing a mask but it’s really not a big inconvenience. Just put the damn mask on for 2 hours and enjoy the game. Seems like a small price to pay to get to watch in person again.

It's interesting, I'm a person that usually gets 2 to 3 bad colds or flue like symptoms every fall and winter. I went out shopping , etc last fall and winter quite often, masked up and everyone I saw masked up and did not get sniffles once. Mentioned this to co workers and friends and pretty much the same. So I feel like have some strong evidence. Odd here in CT, I go to stores in one town and everyone is masked. One town over its about 5 % masked.

Household income/Educational level-Town 1 v Town 2?

23-Curious as to where you live in CT-my home state.

What a ridiculous (and sad) way to think. Chances are we all have a (very) similar education level on this board and clearly there are varying views on this topic.

LOL still gotta get that concession money I see. @SpiderRick gonna have to come out of retirement to help enforce the policy.
LOL, not coming out of retirement even for you Ferrum. Actually, I would be the last guy out there enforcing a mask mandate. My biggest problem with them is that have trouble understanding people because the voices get muffled. Plus I can't see the ladies smiling at me...

I’m not going to games because of the regime leading the program…masks or no masks I don’t care. Hell, I’d wear 4 masks if that meant I could see new program leadership.

Yes, amazingly no one got the flu or a cold in 2020 or 2021. They are history now and have been erased.
