Another disappointing loss, another disappointing season, another crappy year watching Mooneyball.
Pathetic coaching, pathetic team defense, just terrible to watch. This has to be the most overrated, underachieving team is school history.

Mediocre foul shooting.
Poor defense allows opponent 2nd half shooting to be high percentage. Where's the close to great defense Mooney alluded to after Drake game? Can't believe he had the audacity to allude to that.
Can't hold second half lead down the stretch.
Bottom line at this stage of season - Have beaten weaker teams on schedule at home. Can't beat teams that are supposedly about our equals. We are 0-3 against them. Teams we need to win OOC for NCAA consideration. Just another year of the same.

maybe things like running players out there for nearly 40 mins per game actually plays a factor.
This loss is on Mooney. I'm not quite sure why he had the team on the floor he did at the end of the game with a chance to tie.
All you "plastic fans" need to be careful posting the obvious that this is a disaster. "Real fans" are very happy with how hard we competed and have total, blind faith in Mooney. 3-3 is a great record!
You'd think with such a deep bench this year we wouldn't have this problem. This is on Mooney. I can't believe the love he gets from national media.
Well, he did go to Princeton and was a wedding coordinator at Beaver College. And went to the Sweet 16 once. He’s great. And we’re stuck with him for life.
I never understood the love affair from the media. He's a .500 + coach with no conference championships (me thinks) & no NCAA in 10 years. But bring on the luv.

Someone suggested not watching them play anymore to save myself some aggravation. Took that to heart and refused to tune in today. So glad I did not. Enjoyed more time with my family, kept my blood pressure down, and won’t go to bed angry because I just don’t expect anything from them anymore. Our athletics department has gone to sh*t due to Queally, the white hairs near court side, and Hardt. Nothing will change.
Oh and no other team does that, Bull , poor conditioning. When your legs go your shots go
And Maryland was a HORRIFIC three-point shooting team coming into this game. Like 25% on the year. But -- SHOCKER! -- against us, they were really freaking good! Just like most every other team! Amazing! And I'm sure completely and totally coincidental!

How does a team with an all-time leader in steals play such bad team defense? Maybe there is a correlation there?

It’s amazing that we play the best 3 point shooters in the nation every game we play. Hard to believe.
Just brutal. I am well known to be on the anti-Mooney train for years but I am going to say that I think I have been too easy on this group of players. Save Burton who gets a pass because he’s aways played with this group leading the way.
This group lost 20+ two years in a row and has consistently underachieved. Mooney gets a ton of blame, but like think it’s time we recognized that players also lack something. Mooney hasn’t been able to fix it, but the players arrived without ”it.“. You have teams with tremendous fortitude that just play their best when it really matter etc. and then you have teams like us, who shrink in the biggest moments and find a way to let the moment pass them by etc. That is just this gang and it’s a perfect storm because it’s clear that Mooney has no idea how to get them past that! In fact, it’s pretty clear he is an enabler of this group!
I will use Jacob as an example here. He is not alone. I have railed against Grant too and some of the others too. JG plays for steals . . . all the time and seemingly has no idea that that inhibits his abilities as an actual defensive player. He jumps and reaches and leans etc all over the place trying to anticipate steal opportunities and meanwhile, his guy consistently ( for a few years) blows past him into the paint to either score or dish. He never changes. And in crunch time or during another teams run etc., when the other guys get extra careful with the ball, he’s still going for steals that aren’t there while we give up open baskets off his guys penetration. He has to own some of this lack of development. Yes Mooney enables him ( and especially him) but it’s still on him to see and understand this and not be a blinded by the steals. Again, this is just an example. These guys didn’t get the coach they needed for sure, but they have to take a big chunk of blame for what has (and hasn’t) happened during the period they have been the leaders and prime players.

Yet another player got his career high against Richmond. Scored 19 points, kid averaged 4.

Many of us have moved to the low expectations category..........the only way to think the Spiders have any chance of winning is to wait until the score is FINAL and the Spiders have more points than the opponent. Otherwise no matter what the score buying into a win is setting oneself up for disappointment .......
You're right. There is a 0% chance that happens. Our longest winning steak this season so far is one. The chance that a horribly underachieving team coached by Mooney will suddenly win seven in a row is non-existent.
Growing up I was taught if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Since Buckingham left we do not have the mentality of running down the court at full speed and getting between an opponent and the basket on the way to the hoop. The number of unimpeded shots by opponents continues on an upward projectory. Taking contact appears out of the question. Tyler Burton at times has done that but has he been told not to?
spider fan, good point we lack toughness. Not a program inspired trait, so has to be recruited. Wilson has it.

Absolutely right. Every opponent with a motivated point guard can simply power right down the lane to the basket against us unimpeded. It's absurd and Mooney does nothing to fix it.
