I could go on about the ineptness of the coaching staff on Saturday and assuredly we have threads for that. But anyone else feel our entire marketing/ticketing/sales operation at the RC is just mailing it in. Some things I've noticed recently.

1. Complete absence of student body at games. It sounded like they made a try to get students on Saturday but man it was a lame turnout. We used to offer student incentives to go to the games, hand out balloons at halftime, big banners to cover the student body. We don't seem to do any of that. What happened to the Rowdy's, are they still around?

2. White Out. It appears our sole effort for the white out was a couple social media posts a few days before the game If you are going to do a white out at a place like Richmond, first of all you need to have shirts for everyone. Secondly, you need much more planning than was put in. A white out game needs to be on the schedule from the beginning, you need to go all out to get students, you need to be promoting the white out throughout the season. A social media post or two the week of the game isn't cutting it.

3. In game entertainment: We used to have regular paid half time acts, most games this year it is some local rec team playing for 5 minutes. Even the in game timeouts, it is the exact same things every game. Ride the tricycle, dress like a Spider, t shirt cannon. Shit even the ball blaster is out of order. Can we at least try to mix it up.

4. Sound system: The sound system has been jacked all year. Most announcements come out as garbled. It did appear a bit better at the SLU game, but how about getting a professional sound guy in there to fix that.

It all just seems like we are doing the minimal effort, lack of creativity, lack of planning. I know the product stinks and obviously that is problem number 1, but that shouldn't mean the rest of the operation has to be meh as well. Wondering if other folks have noticed this as well.

Totally agree—felt the same way. Honestly, I’m not even sure the whiteout attempt at the game was acknowledged. It seemed like hardly anyone realized it was happening, so most people weren’t in white. As for the Baby Race, it’s usually a big deal and gets a lot of buzz, but this year, the only reason I even knew about it was through a friend (who might be on here) that runs a low-stakes betting contest for it every year. Sadly Baby #6 didn't prevail.

Lol, now that's a good idea. Retro 80s uni night better but u could probably tie that into marketing too. We've jumped the shark already with college now turning into pros. So gambling is accepted too. especially on a baby race! Genius.

Didn't want to make a new thread for this, and figured could post it here, but is anyone annoyed by the Spider Morning Jolt emails? I thought the point of it was to update people on all Richmond athletic results and things to look forward to the coming week. The one we received today did not mention the 3 tennis games played over the weekend (2 men's lost each 7-1 and women's that we lost 7-0), it did not include the men's basketball loss, and while it included the swim & dive meet also failed to mentioned that we lost 135-165. It's not just a today thing, but I've noticed that they tend to leave out losses. Why? It can be a brief comment objectively stating what happened and does not have to add more commentary beyond that. What's the point of these newsletters if it doesn't accurately share recent athletic results? It just becomes a puff piece with no substance.

No doubt and this has been happening for the last few years with this year being an all time low. Obviously, there was a decision to greatly reduce the budget regarding the in-game experience. I am sure funding was redirected to other parts of the athletic department budget.

However, apparently the order to do more with less wasn’t issued and instead it was just do something.

Definitely noticeable that the in-game stuff has been pretty lacking this season. At least a few of the little kid basketball players have hit some threes.

Remember, this is a scheduled down year as we transition into the post covid NIL portal model piloted by one Christopher Mooney. Next year will be down too but will have flashes of the freshman and RS freshman. No need to pull out the stops and energy this season. 26-27 is the all in season with proofread emails, red out t-shirts, new sound person. Let's just forget this season for now and look forward.

Completely agreed. I thought the Spider Jolt emails were a great idea at the outset. Its turned into something pretty dopey that I don't bother to open.
