Looking into next season - women's basketball

The offensive efficiency numbers are just crazy.

Watching the UCLA game, will say was just super impressed with the way the offense moved the ball and attacked without wasted effort. I watched Uconn/USC women in person earlier in the year - and will say our team looked better schematically.

the game is definitely played differently men v women, but u see things with our womens teams sets that u think would translate with how Moon is attempting to play. With the women u got Roussell implementing the fake DHO and then the continued curl by the player when they don't get the DHO. Or the post player faking or setting up the screen to the wing, but then the screener goes backdoor instead. but we don't see it w Moon. Yeah we get a few backdoors but teams basically know what's coming.

Anyone have a subscription to the Atlantic? Would be pretty awesome to see someone from UR drafted to the WNBA.

& here is 2nd half of it since section2045 posted 1st…

“She knows how to get to her spots, and she scores the ball with ease. This shot chart is almost unbelievable. Doogan is so smart in the half court, constantly moving without the ball and finding teammates to turn good shots into great ones. She has the size to play forward in the WNBA and is simply too skilled not to make that happen.”

The shot chart was fg % by region of court & how she was well above d1 averages for all those regions.

Did not see a chart for anyone else.

There were 20 listed. Plus some honorable mentions. Ncaa only, no international. & Ucla had 5 players on the list remarkably. Tho 1 transferred. Betts was #4 overall.

Doogan’s shooting chart shows she shot over 40% from every region of the floor, and she was shooting SIGNIFICANTLY better than the d1 average at literally every region of the court. Like 8-15+% points better in every region.

I assume they only showed her shooting chart, and no one else’s, because it is truly unbelievable.

I would have to imagine that this is a recruiting pitch for transfers this year. Come play with a likely all-American and future WNBA player on a team that will be ranked starting next season with aspirations of making a run in the NCAA. Same with future high school recruits. Hopefully, our success as a team and also individual accolades and making WNBA can be a recruiting pitch to land top 100 caliber recruits who may have more desire to play professionally that it can be done at UR. Exciting times for our women's hoops program.

The Athletic is worth the money. Spend the $10 a month to get a subscription, you won't be disappointed.

Doogan absolutely has the ability to make it in the WNBA. Doesn't hurt that this Athletic reporter is based in LA and got to see Doogan in person for those two games against high-level competition, either. This shows how making the tourney and having a little success can go a long way toward getting national attention, then using some of that attention to continue building a program (if you're smart).

Found this online on Reddit. Again, pretty cool that there is more interest about our players/team being talked about. Didn’t realize WNBA is expanding with 2 more teams next year (Portland and Toronto) so there will be more roster spots available.

Also, further reinforces why Roussell may want to stay at this program long term. In 6 years, he has built a program that has received AP votes in numerous weeks, will be ranked next year to start the season, won an NCAA tournament game, plays top competition, wins championships, and has a player who has WNBA first round potential, all why continuing on an upward trajectory. Other than UConn, South Carolina, Texas’s and a small handful of other teams, the ceiling of this program is just as high as any other power conference team in my opinion. We just need to fund this program like a power team with the house settlement fund.

It really is amazing that in this age of NIL, Roussel is able to keep a likely WNBA first round draft pick here at Richmond. Next year is going to be really exciting for our women's program (as the past 2 have been as well).
Do you know for a fact that Doogan isn’t getting big bucks?
