wondering if carolina fans should be disappointed with just a sweet sixteen appearance when they have six mcdonald's all americans on the roster? would we want more if our team was that loaded? would we seek out a coach who would/could, do better with that kind of talent?

Apples and oranges. Carolina routinely makes it to the Sweet 16, we routinely miss the tournament altogether. Yes, I'm sure their fans want more, but this was not expected to be a Final four year for them anyway. I'd say they performed above expectations.

I don't think UNC is in panic mode just yet with Roy Williams. Your jumping the gun way too early on that one. They were in the final four 2008 and 2009 and won it in 2009. They made the elite 8 in 2011 and 2012, and sweet sixteen this year and 2012. Not to mention they have made the tourney each year between 2012 and 2015.

Plus with that roster - they are not Kentucky and will not lose everyone to the pros, they should have a good solid group coming back and I am sure the addition of 1 or 2 more all-americans.

The co-relation between UNC and UR is not even close. Its almost like Larranaga comparing the Robins Center to Cameron Indoor.

The difference was Larranaga was "flush with victory" when he spoke......................Easier to be gracious when things go your way...............................

Of course, there are different expectations at a place like UNC. What a ridiculous question. UNC is one of the blue bloods of college hoops. They expect Sweet 16 each and every year at a minimum and Final Four runs are expected probably at a minimum of every 4-5 years.

As someone else said, it is an apples and oranges comparison. Plus Roy Williams has a National Championship under his belt, which is a pretty nice trump card.

They got knocked out by #1 seed Wisconsin in the NCAA. We couldn't make it to the NCAA because of James Madison/George Mason. Very big difference. They go consistently, which is something we are looking for. Agree with 97 that this is a ridiculous question, can't compare with UNC

did not say nor insinuate that i was comparing UR to unc in any way, just silly. just curious what programs at other schools endure with fans when they under perform and i would suggest if you annually have more than 5 greasy mac AAs, you should be doing better. though a 1, does wisconsin have any big macs? don't know the answer to that but they may not. they do have a big team, a tough team, a physical team and a well coached team. unc does not rebuild, they should have no "down" years, whatever definition one would apply to "down", all relative.

Perhaps in general we would be disappointed in that result. If we were a team getting multiple McDonald's All-Americans on our roster then we would probably be disappointed if we were to NOT make the Sweet Sixteen and perhaps even the Elite Eight or Final Four. But it isn't like they lost in some huge upset. It was a good game that was close throughout. A rational fan should probably look at UNC's season and see that they weren't quite in that top tier of teams like Kentucky, Duke, and Wisconsin.

A prime example of larger expectations and how the boo birds settle in a little quicker is at VCU. Ten years ago they would have been psyched to make the NCAA tournament and maybe win a game. Now after not getting out of the first round for the last year or two despite appearing in the tournament each of the last several years, there are voices of discontent who wonder if Shaka Smart's seat should be getting warmer. I think if it were us, we would be exactly the same way.

Web, I completely got your question, as opposed to some who only worry about Deion Taylor.

With all the assets that NC has, what is the "bottom line" that their fans want to see? Losing in the Sweet 16?
If I were a fan of NC, which I am not, it would Sweet 16 every year minimum, with a trip to E8/FF mixed in every 3 or 4 years.

Spinner - I understood your question and you make a good point. Too bad it was lost on many here.

68 teams make the dance and 16 make the sweet 16. lots more opportunity.
