Jake Wojcik

Blake Francis

For me, Blake is an unknown quantity until he gets on the floor in game situations and proves what he can do. Solly Stansbury comes immediately to mind as a player we all assumed would be a contributor until we realized he wasn't.

Understood, but we do have actual D1 competition to go by with Blake.

Francis was 2nd-team all conference his sophomore year, he's going to be a good player for us. Playing him and Gilyard gives us really small back court and will be a big disadvantage if we play a match-up zone. My biggest concern for next year is how are we getting better on defense?

Agree 2k, and we aren’t going to win consistently until we fix the defense (and rebound).

I wouldnt start assuming Blake will even start next year...

LongTime,
I wouldn't ASSume either, you know how the saying goes. It should be some good competition for the starting spot, which can only help. Wojcik has some good basketball genes, work ethic and hustle. I would think it is a good possibility he comes back better next year, having a year to adjust to A10 level of play. He does mostly have that over Francis.

Problem is that he'll probably be playing in CM's system and D that simply doesn't work in D1 basketball. Hopefully, he's good enough to overcome it and be successful.

Jake is 5th all-time as a freshman in 3 point shooting with 60. He needs 4 more to tie for 2nd place and 9 to move into 1st place. He is hitting 36% of 3s in A10 conference play and .813 in FT. Needs to work on his 2 point shooting, but has a lot of upside potential.

Well, the whole team has upside potential. At least Jake has a good family that can work with him (his dad and uncle). Others, well, I wouldn't trust Mooney to coach them up. You see what happened with DT and TD.

We have a lot of Freshman that are playing pretty good and most Freshman improve a lot through their college career. Just look at how much Cayo and Grant (before he got hurt) have improved. A lot of these guys are going to be big contributors to the program.

One guy who has recently received some criticism on this board is Jake Wojick, which is interesting because he seems to be playing with a lot more confidence. In A10 play he ranks 13th in 3 point shooting percentage making 35.9% of his shoots and that includes a terrible 1st game against Dayton where he was 2 for 11. He also has been fairly solid handling the the ball with only 10 turnover in conference play.

As he continues to get more experience and confidence he will develop into a very good player. I think he is capable in future years of make over 40% of his shots from 3 point range, which is close to where he is over the past 10 games. He will also significantly improve his 2 point shooting as he plays more relaxed and with confidence.
You have some good young players and JW is one of them. He got valuable experience this year. Good shooter. Other than his strength one area that he needs to improve upon is attacking presses. He gets the ball across half court and immediately looks to pass back when their is ample opportunity to attack the rim. If you guys stay healthy next year an NCAA tourney is a real possibility..However, still think you guys are a big man away from being really good. Big does not need to be a scoring threat but a lock down d and rebounder would help immensely. Grant cannot really play d because he cannot afford to pick up fouls.

Wojick is a lazy player. He could be good if someone could light a fire under his A

I think Jake can be a solid role player for our next coach. He has just been asked to do far too much this year with our thin roster.

I'm hoping he can develop a shot off the dribble. Could be really potent playing that role

I think that Nathan really needs to develop his mid-range jumper and get a better handle on holding on to the ball in traffic, especially under the basket. I hope those things are on his work agenda in the offseason.
I have a feeling that Sal will improve his game for next year to the point that he will justify many more than 3 minutes per half and unless Nathan makes a significant improvement, Sal will take several minutes from his playtime.

Jake doesn’t strike me as a lazy guy. Probably tired. It’ll be good to have additional depth with Blake next year at the 2G.
