How good are our starting 5

All I'm saying is that none of those guys will make an NCAA tournament if they stay at UR. They want to play on that stage and going elsewhere will give them a better chance. Just put yourself in their shoes.

How can you put yourself in the shoes of someone you don't know? You have zero idea how they feel or what they are thinking so what qualifies you to do this?

Because I was an athlete once too. If you're not winning and have a better opportunity somewhere else than that may be the best move.

it may not be so, but I feel this team has bought in. they seem to like each other, believe in each other, like playing with each other, and like playing for coach and UR. none likes losing of course. I think they believe they can change that. but we'll see.

yes VT, some people choose the easier path and chase a team where they think they'll go and win. as you said you would do. it doesn't always work out. I hope all of ours try to make it happen here.

My dad and I talked about any of those three players transferring the other night and he agreed with me that if they want to win they should go elsewhere because it isn't happening with Mooney.

My dad this my dad that. Have him come on the board himself. Cut the cord dude and maybe go somewhere on spring break next time instead.

The list of athletes who have stayed in situations where they aren't contenders and even though years of losing is insanely long so that argument is a terrible one to make. Not everybody is Kevin Durant

Sorry, but I disagree. The quality of these 5 will be one of the best returning group of starters we have had. If you are not excited about these guys returning, you may never be. I also think our bench is going to be a lot better next year.

That's not the question you asked.

This isn't fantasy hoops. You don't get do-overs.
You want to play the "Yeah, Delaware and Jacksonville State humiliated us on our home court, but we'd totally win the rematch" game, go ahead.
Too much of the thinking around this program is influenced by the "ifs" and buts."

There are a variety of former athletes on this board. I expect the only ones who might know what potential transferees are thinking are people who actually hang out with them, which is probably no one on this board.

Some of your best players could transfer.............especially the frosh and sophs (while it's not too late). Same w/ VCU (or any program for that matter).

If you're a good player and you're not dancing, March is a tough month..........watching other teams/players have all the fun and get all the accolades/exposure. Perhaps a player just doesn't see the (NCAA tourney) light at the end of the tunnel in his current situation.

They see guys like Eric Paschall go from relative oblivion at Fordham to starter at Villanova. They start to listen to their friends, family, buddies at other programs; they hear whispers, they start to imagine P5 status, playing in big arenas, etc.

March, April, and May are very tense months for players, coaches, families. A lot can happen (good or bad).

I think more of a kid that plays all four years and helps his team (Friends) get to the NCAA, rather than the kid that sits on the bench at Kentucky or Duke for four years and goes to NCAA every year. Seems to me it is a much more meaningful college and life building experience. I understand that’s just not the way it is anymore.

Luke Hancock sort of stunned George Mason when he left them for Louisville after his soph season (as Coach L departed for Miami), a season in which he helped the Pats knock off Villanova in the dance (circa 2011). He averaged 10.9 ppg as a GMU soph. He had danced, but still left. Two years later, Luke won a national title at the 'Ville and was NCAA tourney MVP.

There are other examples/success stories.

If the P5s start sniffing around (thru back channels in Apr/May), it can be enticing to a solid mid-major player.

True it happened once. Or like you said a handful of other times. How about the countless players who haven't done it though. There have been future NBA players out of the A10 who didn't transfer out. Hancock is the exception

Lots of players transfer when their coach leaves. I would expect we would have a lot of transfers if/when Mooney leaves as well.

At this point not very good at all. I'm going through the stats trying to find something. There are some good individual stats, but overall not good.
11-19 overall
9-9 conference
Lost 5 of last 7
2 game win streak is good, but it is over teams with losing records
Defense is giving up 75 ppg.
Offense has been shooting better and scoring lots of points.

Overall, not good at this point .

There are many more Alonso Nelson Adoda stories than Luke Hancock stories.

if any of our starters decide to leave, they'll get opportunities to play at some really good programs. no doubt. our starters are talented.

if they decide to stay despite this losing season, it will say a lot of how they feel about UR, about the talent level of their teammates, and their coaches. we'll see.

Nothing against our starters - I love them all and 100% want them to return. I will be upset if they leave (and it should reflect poorly on Coach if they do).

But are big time programs really sniffing around an 11-19 (2-10 OOC) team?

Bob Black just alluded to us getting a Grad Transfer. Anyone know who that is?

This happens everytime we win a few games against bad teams. We played well and the team looked like it was having fun and "buying in" but that lasts as long as the next blowout. If they win or even come close tonight then you may have something.

Well, you have the 3 correct. Marvin Bagley III completed his Duke degree in one year.
We were so impressed we agreed to take him for the next three.

Actually has a current Transfers available list been published anywhere yet?

But Luke Hancock's national title and NCAA tourney MVP are now vacated. He may still have the rings + trophies, but it's out of the records with a big fat stain. Agree with others, more stories of Nelson-Ododas than Luke Hancocks.

you are not funny presently!

When will we be hearing some confirmation of the names of the new recruit and the grad-transfer? When is the time-period for the spring signing period? I am starting to cringe each time I hear that we have a grad-transfer coming in. I hope we are not doing that crazy thing again of trying the same thing and hoping for a different result. The last two grad transfers have done less for us than even a "project" big guy freshman who red-shirts.

However, any grad transfers from the Ivy league (with a 3.5 of better, in engineering) would be a pleasant surprise.

We can't get any Ivy League grad transfers. They will all go to GW to get degrees in astrophysics or some other such thing. It's hopeless for us to even try.

Our rotation will be substantially improved with the addition of Bryce Golden should he become a Spider. Both Bryce and Sal, while having different skill sets, would be complementary to others already on the team. Hope Bryce chooses UR.

He's viewed as one of the top 4s on the market right now, so let's hope his ties to us sway things our direction.
