Hampton Sydney predictions

Wojik started and will definitely be the two guard. Has a nice shot and handles the ball well. Not afraid to shoot. Would like to see him go to the basket.

Big 3 are doing their job.

Schneider is the only player we have other than Golden that will go to the rim.
Gustavson and Grace have played several minutes and have been ineffective.

Sal played about 3 minutes and is not ready for prime time. Looks lost out there.
Cayo had nice wide open ally oop from Jacob.

41-17 at the half

Wojcik 2-7 from 3. All of his shots being 3 pointers so far. He’s a good shooter but, like others have noted, would like to see him driving to the basket more

No D1 school in their right minds would schedule them. It's like scheduling Queens College. Only bad things can happen.
I would normally agree, but watching this game I can tell you UR needed this bad. I think Noah Yates will really contribute

Andre is the real deal: solid handle, nice shot, long and extremely athletic. Matt Grace will give Grant some rest. Wojcik cannot play defense. Overall the true freshmen will contribute.

Gustavson and Grace had a better second half. Both will have to play some. Sal had a nice move to the basket in second half, hopefully a flash of things to come. I have no idea what Yates can do, but in all honesty he better be more ready to play than some of the other youngsters. Hopefully he is number 6 or 7. Schneider is a good 2 or 3 backup and Gustavson is a good 2 backup. Grace will be the 5 backup. Gilyard has no real back up. That young man is going to be playing 38 minutes a game. JJ was JJ, no better and no worse.
My man Sal still needs to live at McDonalds. Maybe we can all chip in and Uber McDonalds Sal a few BigMacs and large fries.

No clue.

There were some clear positive take-aways from tonight's exhibition game.
First, Woj started at 2-G, as a few expected, and played very well, looking more like a senior than a freshman.

Second, Dre (Andre Gustafson) looked solid during his minutes on the floor, mostly backing up Woj at 2-G. He had one spin dribble move that was "big-time" and showed off some of his athleticism.

Third, We put the pedal to the metal in this one and won by roughly 42 points. We did not "play down to the competition," as we have often done in the past. It was nice to see the effort level stay high.

Fourth, the biggest pleasant surprise for me was Matt Grace's play as our back-up center. Matt showed some of the same maturity as Woj, made very few mistakes and showed off some of his exceptional passing skills, skills that will likely earn him some playing time over the next few years. Matt truly reminds me of Dan Geriot, and I say that in the most positive way possible. Dan played smart basketball and passed exceptionally well, and Matt does some of the same things.

Fifth, the box-score for the game may already be posted, or is likely to be posted soon, showing our shooting percentages. However, we likely shot close to 50% from the 3-point line in this game, based on a few notes I jotted down. We definitely shot it well from outside, and I would expect this trend to continue, given that we have brought in several above-average shooters, and at least one exceptional one (Woj).

Sixth, Sal may not have lit it up and his box-score numbers may not have been great, but he showed some real potential in this game, both rebounding and handling the ball and driving for a lay-up. If he can get stronger, and put on some muscle, he could be REALLY good.

Seventh, this team's versatility was on display. We played a large number of combinations of players and most of these line-ups played well together. I even saw a "big" line-up that was fascinating to see, and that one had Woj at PG, Dre at 2-G, Sal at SF, Nathan at PF and Grant at center. If we were to play that line-up against any team in the country, we would not be at a height disadvantage.

Finally, our passing was mostly very crisp and we managed to work the ball around to get open 3-point shots with some frequency. We also APPEARED to box out and rebound well in this game (albeit against a much shorter team), but it was good to see the rebounding EFFORT and a few steals too.

Thanks for the posts and info, sounds like we showed some promise and handled business.

Thanks for posting the highlights. Our strong outside shooting and crisp passing was on display in the video. Also, we got to see contributions from a number of new players and a great alley-oop from Jacob to Nate. For those posters who live out of state, and could not attend tonight, ENJOY!!!

I really like most of our new players and think they have some skills we need. The returners should be highly productive. I have zero faith in the coach's ability to make the team what it should or could be, and as a result I am apathetic about the season for the first time in my two-plus decades as a Spider fan.
