Grant earns A10 co-POW honor

It may not be used by the committee as a selection metric, but it certainly is still used informally as a gauge to measure where a team is versus the competition. You used it yourself in your post to make your point.

To answer your question, if we were better perhaps Grant would be considered for a Naismith Award, Wooden Ward, AP Award, or perhaps one of the position-specific awards like the Karl Malone or Jabbar awards. Because we are bad, he continues to play at an All-American level without the national recognition.

No I didn't. i said ranking. I did not say RPI. All the RPI is is your record, your opponents record, and then your opponents opponents record. It is by far one of the worst ranking systems ever, and even more so early in the year. If you think if we were 10-2, a sophomore big in the A-10 averaging around 20 a game would be considered for any of those awards you are kidding yourself. You are really reaching with your agenda here.

You left out his 1st round NBA draft status.

He might play defense
His defense is not that bad. He's kind of got himself in a jam, I believe his animated disgust when a foul has been called on him has made him a target (even if subconsciously) to have more fouls called on him... thus his playing tentatively .

The Jabbar and Malone Awards have a working list of 20 players each throughout most of the season. I would say at least offensively, it's not a stretch to say that GG is playing as well as any of the ~40 listed players at these positions (his scoring average is about the same as Zion Williamson or Bol Bol who are on the lists and will both be NBA first rounders). The selection criteria also says that players can play their way onto or off the list during the season.

If our record was 10-2 or 11-1 right now, I suspect he would be getting a lot more national attention than he is getting now with us being a .417 team with one of our weakest OOC schedules ever.

Your argument is flawed because both the Malone and Jabbar lists are chosen in the pre season and not narrowed down until mid February. So we could be unbeaten with the best OOC schedule in the country and Grant would still not be on the list right now. Next time, you might want to try to do a little more research before posting.

I think most here agree that Grant will go down as the best big man ever at UR. he deserves all the credit for the work he's put in to become the player he is so far, and the player he's still trying to become. but to say Mooney is hindering him in anyway is a joke. you've got plenty of legitimate ammunition to use against Mooney. we've lost some awful games this year. we won 12 last year. we haven't danced. we've lost players.

but Grant is a star who Mooney found and is developing. he chose UR over mostly Patriot League offers. everyone else missed out on something special. give credit where it's due. or don't if you can't. but like it or not, Mooney got it right with Grant and Grant's become the player he is with Mooney ... not in spite of him.
It's that "blind squirrel" thing. Coaches get it every so often too.

All of your arguments in support of the status quo of this program are flawed. If we won more our players and program would get more attention. The program is in a downward spiral as we stare at a second straight losing season. The bottom line is CM doesn’t win enough to be the head coach at UR. He doesn’t go the NCAA tournament enough to be the head coach at UR. All the other stuff really doesn’t matter.

What I was saying is that GG is playing as well offensively as anyone on those two lists, but because we suck as a program, he is not getting the recognition he probably deserves.

Which is a laughable comment considering he was named to the pre season all A-10 team and just got A-10 player of the week.

I’d agree that even with a solid record, Grant isn’t necessarily showing up on some kind of poy list but it’s hardly laughable to think that the players whose teams perform well are given more consideration than those that don’t. This is a common theme across most collegiate sports.

I kind of see your point, but a lot of teams have good records with players having great seasons, but the players are still not getting a lot of recognition. It is still early, and conference play will get a lot of guys noticed more.

A decent A-10 win-loss record will help GG get some more props, but I'm not holding my breath on the wins part.
