GMU In Game

Had a foursome seated Row 1 right behind the Spiders (too short to see over the team!). Can't wait to go to church in Davidson Sunday! Spides 5 wins of last 7 from Wildcats and 3 in a row on McKillop Court! Thanks for looking for us.....
Didn't we lose there last year?

Good win, just as we should have expected. We are proving to be a solid road team, which is a very good team. Basically the best road record among A10 teams, considering that we've played 6 and only lost one even though Dayton is 3-0. And they're going to have a road loss in about seven days.

You smoked him K. Great win for the Spiders. No need for the truthers to attack a long time and good fan like you!
Yeah, such a positive guy! You guys should meet at Bernies, pick a team for the day. Lots of collegiate pennants to chose from. I suggest the large turkey with cheese, heated, no peppers

Good road win, any win is good. Reality, GMU is not good and was missing one of their best players. Gave up 87 points, 40 in the paint, allowed 4 to score double figures, one had 39; 39 let that sink in, and we could not defend the dribble drive the entire game. Our offense was terrific, but the defense was questionable. I like Grant’s offense today but zero fouls and didn’t defend the post. Not criticizing him, I believe this is results of coaching. On to next game, I don’t care if we give up 125 as long as we have more.

Probably, but he wouldn't play much. Grant is doing a great job with his skills, but shot blocker, power rebounding, and vertical leap are his deficits. But I have no complaints he doing great with what he can do.
Amazing that a guy who the other A-10 coaches voted a third-team all-star in 2018 and 2019 would not play much on their teams. Guess they have guys who didn't make all-league but who are better.

Great effort on O, lots of forced turnovers. We couldn’t stop javon green to save our lives, kid was on today. Some of that was luck, most was skill, and some may have been game planning or lack thereof, a little hard to tell on the last if they were daring him to beat us. He was up to the challenge apparently.

Liked that nick had zero hesitation taking the three, he got super comfortable in the elbow/corner for a bit.

Somewhat concerning we gave up 87 to this team, but we win on the road. I absolutely take that any day.

Excellent win by Mooney's team.

Now fellas keep the entertaining posts coming. Just keep in clean.

Honestly, I think we gave up 87 because they gave up 97. A 10-point road win is something I'll take whether it's 10-0, 60-50 or 97-87.
Never been a coach, played the game, but you are probably correct, CM didn’t care how many GMU scores, believed his team would score more. Every game is different, just win, but I would like to see better interior defense from our bigs. Golden and Cline play the same on defense, obviously protecting for offense. Coaching.

Burton MVP

Tyler answered for the Spiders draining three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to put Richmond ahead by six.

He led Richmond's bench with a career-high 12 points and added a team-high six rebounds, also a career best in 19 minutes.Shot 4-7 FG,2-5 3s,2-2 FT.

His Marianapolis Prep and Uxbridge,Mass friend was killed on Wednesday in FL in a van wreck.Lots on this kids mind since then.

So sad.

Glad Grant joined the 20 pt club again today. 24th of his career - that is an impressive number. There have been recent games where the inside game was available, but the Spiders shifted out of it.

Amazing what happens to the FG% when you aren't tossing up 3s at the end of the shot clock.

Still looking for that improved D - MIA again. As others have noted, fortunately it wasn't needed.

I really enjoyed when we had JG, AG, NS, Burton, and GG on the floor together. It seemed like there were enough shots to go around, and they allowed everyone to get into the rhythm that they needed.

Also, the steal that JG had on the sideline, and then laid in going away (with some english) was really a terrific play. Man, he is fast.

Good Power 5 teams would not. The original post ask about power 5 and a10.... (even equating the two is not real world).... i like Grant, I truly think he has/is accomplishing a lot considering his athleticism.

Like Grant and am happy to have him. His skills fit our offense. He’s good enough to score when not doubled and is a great passer when he is. I have no problem with him playing below the rim but wish he would work on finishing stronger. Go right at defenders. I actually think Grants defense has been better this year. I think man to man fits him much better than the matchup did.

I mean he is not bad in a big, slow, non defense playing, soft kind of way. He fits our style perfectly.
Go Spiders!

What makes you think that? A strong 6’10” player, with good skills- who wouldn’t want him?
Strong is the word you would use for Grant? I'm sorry but he is more of a finesse player. I'm not trying to be negitive about him. He does good things but when Richmond plays a team with a power big man Grant usually has a hard time. He just isn't the physical type of player. It is what it is.

Good Power 5 teams would not.

In the last 50 years we have had exactly one (1) UR player have a significant NBA career. So really, how many of our players, at any time, would be starters on good P5 teams, since that seems to be the criteria of how good a particular Spider player is?

First we were no good because we lost more than we won.

Then we were no good because the teams we beat are not good.

Then we are still no good because the P5 teams we beat are no good.

Then we are no good because the A-10 teams we beat at home are no good.

Then we are no good because the A-10 teams we beat on the road are no good, even though they'd won about 83% of their home games this year before losing to us.

Then one of our better players would only be a backup elsewhere in a league where he's made two all-star teams. And of course he'd be a much better player under different coaching, even though he's torched many of the defenses those other coaches put on the floor.

Tough to keep up when the goalposts keep shifting.

Call me crazy, but I'm going to be happy with 14-4, 4-1.

Teams that play fast and run up and down the court. He would be a back-up for Dayton, URI, VCU, to start.
I don’t know if you and Spiderfan1 are serious about Grant, but in the college game, when you have a big man like a Grant, there’s always a place and the offense is adjusted. Everyone of those teams you mentioned had big men like Grant that worked in their offenses. Just not their current offense.
I’d like to see him be a little “meaner”. But he’s no help sitting on the bench with multiple fouls.

There will be plenty of teams making calls to GG when this season is over.

Grant is a very good player. Yes, if he were a little more physical and athletic it would be great, but he is doing a very good job for us. It seems like Mooney really subs him out very early this year. Hopefully Butler does not come calling for a grad transfer big next year.

Sherod is continuing to really play well and impress. Both Jacob and Grant stepped it up vs GMU and really led the charge, that was great to see. We need both of them to be aggressors and look to score every game.
