We all know that Grant set the record for most points by a spider freshman, however not many people are focusing on the fact that Gilyard's 366 total points were tied for sixth most by a freshman in Spiders history.
We all know his 89 steels broke the previous record by Tony Dobbins of 85 and his 2.78 steals per game were sixth most in D-I , but how about his 2.41 assist-to-turnover ratio which ranked fifth among D-I freshmen and third most of any A-10 player.
His 130 assists shatter the freshman record held by Ken Atkinson (115) since 1986-87 and were ninth-most in a season in Spiders history
His career 83.6% free throw percentage ranks in the top 10 all time for a Spider.
Here is the scary part, he actually got better as the season went on. For the season he average 4.1 assist per game, however in the A10 (last 18 games) he averaged 5.1 and 3 steals a game.
It is going to be exciting to see how well he plays the next 3 years. We have had a lot of great players at point guard over the years, but Gilyard might finish his U of R career as the best ever.
