Referenced in other threads, thought it deserved a thread of its own.

On the radio post game, Matt Smith's first question to Gilyard was what is the atmosphere in the locker room. Gilyard responded that it was not good, the mood was down. But then went on to say and I am paraphrasing here, there are some guys that are far too content with losing. take losing far too easily, and didn't come to play with the energy/mindframe needed. Wow, just wow.

Heard the clip was played on Black and Drew this AM, I missed it, hopefully someone can pin that up here for all to hear. Gilly said it well, it was a powerful statement.

Oh - the link in my post went directly to Gilyard's comments.
"Right now I don't think losing bothers us enough as a team. I think some of us are just kinda content with that. And I think that's our main problem right now; we're not really too competitive."

Jacob's a winner. He went to 3 state championships, I believe. This has gotta be killing him.

So to answer your question - clearly he was referring to the message boards.

If Mooney keeps playing Gilyard 40 minutes a game, he won't be around next year, either through injury or by transfer.

A. Smith usually doesn't ask questions of that nature. Odd
B. Coach Perrier would consider Gilyard's comments to be a gaffe, brain fart, etc.
C. Gilyard's comments are exhibit A that Coach Perrier is starting to lose, or has already lost the locker room.
D. Change is needed NOW

He always does that nonsense after a loss -- some dejected, I suck pity party tone of voice. Go back and listen to clips from previous games over the last couple years).

Nobody is buying his fake act.

That's not the way I read you version of the comment

"Right now I don't think losing bothers us enough as a team. I think some of us are just kinda content with that. And I think that's our main problem right now; we're not really too competitive."

you take that quote and say he's talking about message boards? " I don't think losing bothers us enough as a team" "some of us are just kinda of content with that"

What am I missing? I don't think losing bothers the message board enough as a team?

I-M-UR, are you OK?

If ever a comment that was tongue-in-cheek didn't need "sarcastic font", it was that one.
obviously not, you're right there needs to be a sarcastic font. However in my defense there are some posters where your sarcasm would be their actual position.

Gilyard is a great player and doing everything he can to help the team. Using quotes from him to enhance your own agenda is in poor taste. We should delete this whole subject from the board

I think its refreshing to hear something open and honest from our program about things rather than they competed well.

Gilyard's a warrior, everyone associated with the program needs that mentality.

Yes, agree, Gilyard is a winner.

I was all aboard the wait until after the year firing of Moon. Now, I am afraid of the damage he has done and will do.

They just like stirring things up for no reason.

I agree, but it is not like he said some major things that we haven't heard from plenty of other athletes. What I heard is we need to pissed about our 0-2 start, don't get comfortable with losing, and play with more energy and emotion from the beginning next game. He did not call anyone out by name, and did what a leader should do.

And, I think we would all be fine with 36 minutes a game from him and not 40. Just give him 2 minutes before a media timeout each half.

What agenda?

Gilyard’s comment sound like he’s frustrated with losing. I think everyone can agree that it’s a good thing he’s not happy with losing.

Didn’t think his comments were controversial, just a nice insight to how it means to him (which sounds like it is a lot).

Why? Someone needs to "care" that our recent on court basketball performance is awful. When I attend games it is to enjoy the company of fellow Spiders, sadly there is no expectation that we will score more points than the other team. I want us to win every game but I expect us to lose every game.

Gilyard isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. Let's face it: The only times we've looked like a halfway decent team this year was when we played really bad teams. No matter how much Mooney claims we are practicing hard and getting better, we really aren't. You can only perpetuate a lie for so long.

I can agree with this. Still have hope something will click, but I was hoping to be peaking at the start of A-10 play, and it seems like we might have even taken a step back.

Are both of you serious? Wow!!!

Sorry, but this quote is very relevant. Gilyard is part of the team and a leader in the locker room, so his comments and opinions do matter. I don’t know who he was referring to and frankly I don’t need to know to form my opinion.

I don’t know if he is only talking about the players, the coaches, or both. But it clearly tells us is there is a problem in that locker and the Head Coach is responsible for that locker room. Whether it is coaches he hires, the players he recruited, and how he motivates all of them once they get into HIS locker room.

The bottom line: if there is a problem it’s Chris Mooney’s problem. And if he isn’t solving that problem then he is part of that problem.

Agenda?

The conspiracy theories from some on this board. Crikey.

C. Gilyard's comments are exhibit A that Coach Perrier is starting to lose, or has already lost the locker room.
C is what I was thinking after I heard the radio interview. Jacob did turn the intensity down a notch during the SpiderTV session, so we may not be at crisis level yet. I think the GW game will tell us where the team is and we may know as soon as the starting lineups are announced.

We are both in agreement wanting Spider b-ball success, but I don't see the step back as much as playing better competition. No worries though, OOC resembling GW is up next so maybe Mooney's team will start peaking this weekend.

Unless GW plays like it did when it was leading Dayton 33-11 last night.

I don’t typically read much into statements like Jacobs postgame but the one undeniable interpretation is that there’s a malaise in the locker room to go along with the one the fans are experiencing.

Misery loves company.

How about we stop letting the ball roll to mid court on in bounds. How about no more slowing the game.
We have a decent bench. We have a decent amount of speed. Just please use the talent that we have if you want to be more aggressive. Our tactics are putting our guys to sleep.

Technically the mid court roll is intended to help elongate the game when you’re down, not really slow it down. But I agree with being more aggressive, there are a variety of things we do that feel like wasting time or opportunities.

T...I know the reason for the roll on inbounds but I can't think of a single time I have seen a team use it in the first half. To me it's sort of saying we have already gone to a last ditch mentality.
I would like to see JG take the ball down court at top speed then pull it out if we don't have a play.

When the players are calling out the program there's only one person to blame...AND FIRE. And right now. Shame that they'll probably throw Gilyard under the bus instead. Transfer potential to play under a real coach. He won't be back next year. Shame. This Mooney dude has set the program back 4 years and he's not done yet.

Metastatic cancer.
