I feel bad for everyone involved with our basketball program for the season ending early, however I think it hurts Gilly the most. He was on track to set the all-time NCAA steal record before he graduates, which is now going to be more difficult for him to achieve. In addition, he might have set the U of R single season assist record this year, although it should not impact him breaking the U of R all-time assist record sometime next year.

I was with you as little as about 1.5 weeks ago. I was a little annoyed about FINALLY having a team, and not one team But two teams that were going to be playing in the NCAA, now i am worried about the economy, the spread of covid and health of family, co-workers, and spidernation, my 401k and many others than hoops.

And when I saw the headline, I was afraid he was in the transfer portal. Not expecting that but the headline shook me.

To be honest with you I think Gilyard is the best pg Richmond has ever had. The only thing he was lacking until this season was winning and now that he has won and is leading what will most likely be the best team Richmond has ever had he has, in my opinion, solidified himself as the best Richmond has ever had. I know he is very small but I would not be shocked to see him play at the next level and potentially the NBA

I do hope the missed 3-5? games don’t keep him from breaking the all time record next year.

Those missed games definitely make it harder. Figure he would have had at minimum 10 more steals and at max maybe 20+ more. But at the rate he was going toward the end of the year, he might average 6 a game next year or something crazy like that (mostly being facetious, but still). I think he does have a decent shot either way. And maybe we'll just have to play three A-10 tourney games and 4 NCAA games to make sure he gets it...

Fatts was pitiful this year. Saw him in person twice this year and he contributed -20 to winning. Crutcher and Gilly are on an entirely different level. Next poll question please.

I agree Fatts is a distant third in my opinion. Yea, he scores a lot, but he shoots way to much. I enjoy watching Crutcher play. Very well rounded player and I think his best quality is that he so clutch. End of game situations, you want the ball in Crutchers hands. We will see what happens this year without Obi and a couple other starters. JG just impacts the game in so many ways. He is the best defender of the 3. He can score when needed, but doesn’t have to score to lead the offense. He’s exactly what you want in a point guard.

I'll have to do a deeper dive on Dayton's roster, but "pat, pat" I called it last year before the season that they were most talented and team to beat. Still a ton of talent in the back court returning with Crutcher and Ibi. Recruit Blakney is a freak athlete, think K Smitty with more skill - and I think will be an instant contributor. We should be top ranked to start the season, but I think Dayton is going to be right there despite loss of Obi.

This poll has no credibility without Gilyard. However a more interesting poll would be, which conference has the best top 3 point guards? If might be the A10. All 3 of these guys are rank among the top point guards in the country. I would be surprised if at least one of them was not selected for all-american honors at the end of next season. Gilly, leave room in your trophy case next to your future sweat-sixteen award.
