FOREcast FORE Davidson

CM said in post game interview that Davidson made some impressive shots and that there were not many defensive breakdowns. CM must not have seen the game. Davidson with great looks from 3 all game.

Does he even believe the crap that comes out of his mouth anymore?

I listened to Bob (solo) at the gym for the last 7 minutes. We were down 25 when I started, and they closed the gap a little after making a bunch of 3s. I'm glad I didn't watch this disaster.

The players are starting to get disgruntled. What would fix the problem? Can Mooney and let an assistant ride out the string, and start fresh next year.

That look started when we went down 9 in the first half and right at the start of second half when they went up 18. The players reflect the persona of their coach, who needs to start showing some emotion.Right now they need to start Yates and have Wocjk come off the bench since he is not finding his shot. Andre is a spark but needs to take more open shots whe he has them. Currently there is no confidence in our shooting. When we start a game 0-6 and 3 of those shots are snowbirds, you know it is going to be a long day.
Players need to stop hanging their heads and show some fire.

CM is a knuckle-head. I have a better than average shot to get a better result sitting on the bench and shuttling players in and out every 4 minutes.

Sorry DT, I read that but must have forgotten. When I heard the "elite coach" statement I was taken aback. Where do they get this stuff? Are they reading from 2011 cheat sheets?

Yes they read the "crib/cheat sheet" - Chris Mooney is the winningest coach in Richmond history and equate that to Mike Krzyzewski being the winningest coach in Duke history or even closer at hand Bob McKillop is the winningest coach in Davidson history.

(The winning percentages of those coaches are in order - .547, .766, .621.) The announcers dig no deeper than what they are given...............and draw your own conclusion.

My first thought was “clearly we don’t have two of the elite announcers in college basketball”. Perhaps that was insensitive, but at this point I’m looking for humor where I can find it. The early Mooney years stunk but that felt different. We just keep extending the inevitable. We need to move on from Mooney. He’s a nice guy and we did some good things here, but the longer he keeps losing the more it just hurts him. He can step away, get an assistant job, and then bounce back. Look at Jeff Capel at Pitt. We’re not helping anyone at this point, not the coaches, not the players, not the fans.

I wish they’d go back to talking about him being a wedding planner instead of some great coach.

Just got home and saw 75-62, expected but not that bad. Though went over play-by-play and Mooney's team was down 20 with 16 minutes to play! Mooney just flat out has to go!
It’s worse than you realize, we were down 25 with under 6 minutes.

The final belied what transpired.

Sidebar: didn’t see much of grant down the stretch. Was he injured or did CM try to roll with all three point shooters?

I used to really get bothered when we would lose. When we have passion for our basketball program and want to see good things happening, this is the result. But that was several years back. Now it's just kind of an expectation to lose, & I realize that in spite of hopes for a turnaround and some sort of transformation, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. We come to live w/in the reality of our situation and can only wish that our program was successful like others we see that have winning traditions & play really good basketball and are fundamentally sound.

Maybe all of this tells me that the contrarian indicator in my belief is that we're close to a bottom?

+1

I’m not an overly passionate person but I would definitely stew about a Spider game when we’d lose, particularly if it was close.

We go down by double digits today and I chose instead to rearrange furniture in the recroom.

The only further down I can go is to not watch at all.

This used to be my favorite time of the year. I used to care about my favorite sport a lot.

No injury. Combination of going with small pressing lineup at end of game and minutes were limited some early because he was not aggressive enough (got this from CM post game interview). Interestingly, GG did actually dunk the ball in this game, which is a rarity.

Even though I was on the defense was “ok” train against Duquesne (ie wasn’t the primary reason Spiders lost) in this game it was worse, especially against the 3. Yates (player of the game-interesting choice) mentioned that the coaches did focus on D against 3 for the game and thus the poor performance was “on team”.

I must also add that I lost focus watching the game on tv because it was ugly early as already cited.

For me, it was that I forgot about the Duquesne game until 30 minutes before it started.

Which I find disturbing considering there was a time when I didn’t miss a home game in 32 seasons...

There have been too many elderly family issues to keep that record the last few years.

Davidson started 2 Freshmen, 1 Sophomore and 2 Juniors. Their 6th man was a Sophomore.

I wish they'd stop using lack of experience as an excuse.
