Forecast for GW

Sooooo...you want us to lose? Geeez. Maybe we build upon this. Maybe the kids who are working their butts off enjoy a night after a dominating (as others put it) win. I'd encourage many on here to think beyond yourselves and this replace Mooney at all costs mentality and compliment the nice road win our student athletes delivered.
Obviously sarcasm doesn't translate well online.

I think it's clear we need a new coach. But unlike some, I do not want us to lose to hasten Mooney's departure; us winning seems to upset some who want him fired, yesterday..

I want us to win every game, no matter who the coach is.

Maybe someone has already pointed it out, but no Juniors or Seniors stated today.
Maybe Mooney is having an awakening. :)
I speculated Andre would be starting within 5 games. It happened faster than I expected.

Will be interested I’d it was a situational decision (i.e., facing a zone) or just ready to get the upside guys more time.

Sarcasm doesn’t always translate although I know enough of your posts to know what you meant.

I still want us to win but will be bummed if we win enough tha CM is retained. Of course, it’s apparently a guarantee according to at least one poster on here who has a Batphone into Hardts office.

More Andre and Sal, less Julius. JJ can still contribute, but I think he needs to play limited minutes (5 or so a game). I’m not sure why it took CM this long to play Andre, but I guess better late than never. Sal needs to play also. He does some good things in his very few mins. Both these kids give us a level of athleticism and length that Julius just doesn’t have.

GW was our weirdest split last season. Pretty comfortable win at home, then that embarrassment in DC in the midst of our February swoon.

I don't think GW has the talent to drop 100 on us again.....let's not repeat that.

That was the last Richmond game I attended. Absolutely embarrassing.

You've made that crack after a few wins, and I know you're being sarcastic. I don't think "rooting for losses" is as prevalent as you do, especially since VT was banned from the forum.

Good for the fellas to get a comfortable win.

I guess if we keep winning games, that would defeat the purpose of hiring a new coach, right?

As I said, I want whoever is the coach to win.

Very happy to see the boys get a win, and for them to do so while Gilyard had an off game. Great offensive job by Cayo, Golden, Goose, and Wojcik.

At the risk of driving folks crazy, in close games I'd really love to see an offense/defense substitution between Golden and Grace. I think Grace is not really strong, but much better fundamentally in rotating and positioning than Golden is.

But, not to take away from Golden--really good game yesterday especially on offense. And Cayo found a great balance between aggressiveness and shot selection. Plus -- 2 DUNKS IN THE SAME GAME. RICHMOND RECORD!

Now, don't wish for losses for your team. That's just not right. Not winning enough is bogus.

How long was his sentence??

#FreeVT

Well no matter how long his ban here is for...Him and I made a bet (I kept the screenshots) and loser had to leave the boards for one year.

He said Richmond would not win 8 total games this year. So whenever he is allowed back he'll immediately be gone another year. :D

Nice win for the Spiders. Great to see our freshman do well. Andre gets the start and had a very good first half. Jake, had 4 more 3s and 8 rebounds. He might be 3rd in the A10 in 3s. Also, thought Matt Grace played very well. Only sorry Sal didn't get more minutes.

Cayo, probably gets the player of the game with Grant a close second. Nice to see a lot of players contribute when Gilyard does not have his A game.
I agree with all of this but did think it odd Souley.. didn't play more. Andre came out big then seemed to get tentative. Great win on the road

The new RPI, the NET, has GW as the lowest rated team in the A-10. You can only play the games on your schedule, but we basically beat South Alabama on Saturday, so let us not think that this is some page turning win.

I saw lots of people on here saying this is a page-turning, program-defining, cataclysmic victory. Good call.

You won't be betraying your #FMM affiliation or somehow undermine the thousands upon thousands of posts calling for Mooney to be fired by saying "good job by the boys" after an enjoyable win without qualifying your post with numerous admonitions about Mooney's ongoing failure as a sentient being. Just sayin.

Is that what Mooney told you to say??!

:D

I like the consistancy of people's comments. When we lose by 11 to RI, who we consistently have had a difficult time with, we were destroyed, embarrassed, got our tails kick, we stink. However, when we win by 20 against George Washington, we did ok, we should have won, our schedule is terrible, fire Mooney, we played Gilyard too long and nothing good can happen by winning.

We got the best fans!

I just don't find a win over a terrible GW team all that enjoyable. We are still 7-9, heading towards another year with no postseason. Its like the Redskins trying to get up for a Week 15 game after they have been eliminated from the playoffs and then wanting their fans to tell them "great job, attaboy" for winning a meaningless game.

It's been so long since we've had a real meaningful win with our program, I guess we have to find any reason at all to celebrate something.

My 10 year old when I told her, we beat GW, said but yeah, GW isn't very good are they? Sound like a great line from "Are you smarter than a 5th grader".

Ya URI beat us by 11 and while they may not have necessarily blown us out on the scoreboard the game really wasn't as close as the score might have indicated. We never had a chance in that game. As for GW yes we should have beaten them, good for the kids to get a blowout win. Guess what though? There won't be too many games like that this year. We suck but GW just sucks even more. That's the cold hard truth.

I don't think anyone is upset by the idea of us winning. I can't speak for others, but there would be nothing I would love more than to see UR run the table and win the A10 tournament. The biggest concern is that we win enough games against bottom feeder teams that give the impression that we are improving when we really aren't. We all saw the outcome of when we played top teams in our league like Dayton and Rhode Island (even at a down year). There is a clear difference between where we are right now and where we want to be. Beating the GW's and Coppin State of the world is not a true measure of improvement. So when some posters say "nothing good can happen by winning" I think they mean more that winning enough of these bottom feeder games can be problematic in that it will continue justifying the AD's decision to keep Mooney as coach but it won't move the needle of where we want to be as a program. Analogy wise, it is as though a record of 7-9 beating teams such as Coppin State, IUPUI, GW, etc. is like we are a hamster running in one of those plastic balls. It can give the impression that we are going somewhere, but in reality we are just running in place.

I'm happy for the team when they win, and a win where I'm not actually stressing out that we are about to blow a lead, qualifies as enjoyable to me, even when it is against South Alabama, Coppin State, or GW.

I also believe that we should move on from Coach Mooney.

Those two emotions/beliefs do not have to happen in isolation. That is my point.

This! Mooney will be gone when the season's over. I'll bet my 401k on it. Enjoy as many wins as possible in the meanwhile. If you think just a message board is calling for his head think again. Many graduates remember when this was a dangerous program that could go big places. It still can, but the change must happen before the program become irrelevant.

It will be so big, they will edit the video played between warmups and introductions to include the highlights of this win. As big as the Kansas win, or beating the thirteenth ranked Gator.

I have wanted Mooney gone for years. I would say that he ABSOLUTELY deserves to fired at then end of this season, and I will continue to call for same.

However, I am not nearly as confident as you. Remember: "You can't fire me now, with next year's best class in history, we are on the cusp of greatness" theme.

How big is your 401K? I might take the bet :D

This team is going to be good the next two years despite Mooney. Going to be interesting to see what happens.

The ceiling for us with Mooney as coach is the NIT. If that's what Hardt and Queally want, then I guess they'll keep him.

On his show tonight, Mooney went on about how difficult it is to get an at-large bid because there are really only four spots for teams "at our level," whatever that is. Nevermind that the A10 has had multiple teams in the NCAAs every single year we've been in the league and almost always at least three.

So while he would have us believe we have to be one of the top four teams out of 100 competing for a bid, the reality is that we just have to be one of the three best teams in this league, and most years that will get us a bid.

Yes , Mooney is getting g better and better at lowering expectations. The problem with his approach is that it becomes ingrained in our program.
