Flyer in game

I did enjoy when Grant just lowered his shoulder into Toppin and sent him halfway across the lane, laid it in and there was no foul called. That was fun
Agree. That is a definite charge on GG. He does that far too often. And i dont remember a charge ever being called, but its a bad habit - i think - to get into when the refs do start to call it... and they will.

And what did it get him a gold star .Kid was still weak ,you got beat by a better team .And one of your poster suggested for walk ons to rough Toppin up. Classy ,With some questionable calls should have been a bigger beatdown.

Porkie, UR did pretty well without their best player.

I think the majority of posters for us on here are classy... that may have been a tongue in cheek comment, but if it wasnt, so what. Every school has classless fans. I personally think you coming here on our board and calling someone out is just as bad. And youre probably a good example of one of Daytons less-than-stellar fans...look in the mirror son.

I Am, been a fan for over 60 years and I have never heard any Dayton fan even joke about hurting a player on purpose .And if I did I would call them out and would hope others would to .Come to our beautiful refurbished Arena next year and see how real fans act always sold out. I never post on other boards but that stuff was uncalled for.Even people in a hick town like Dayton don't do that have a good day..

@orkie You don’t have to look very far on this board to find complementary comments regarding the Flyers. I knew your team was talented but I was even more impressed with their composure. As for any comments about hurting a player those are certainly uncalled for and I can promise you they don’t represent the UR fan base. I’m sure you’ve had friends or even family members say stupid things over your life and those things didn’t represent you or what you are about. Good luck to the Flyers the rest of the way...you guys look poised for a special season.

A few of my thoughts from the game:

-Dayton is definitely the better team but we made a pretty good game of it all things considered. Good competitiveness shown by the guys to battle and keep it close when it could have gotten real ugly. I think having this intense, tough battle could pay dividends at VCU this week, as the level of competition and game atmosphere won't be a shock to the system.

-Did I see us run a screen to get Woj open for a 3? It worked and I wish we'd do it more.

-Nick and Jacob both played extremely well offensively. I really love when Nick gets the ball and backs his man down. He usually outsizes his man and I love when he takes advantage of it and goes inside.

-Big differences in the game were our missed layups and Toppin. I think their athleticism made our guys overthink normal layups and we missed a bunch that were there for the taking. And if you take away Toppins 4 or 5 breakaway dunks with no Spider nearby this is a different game. Just can't let him get out in transition and beat you like that.

Overall I was disappointed with the loss but encouraged that we stayed in the game and played really well in stretches. Let's beat VCU this week and get back on track.

Dayton is very good and will go far. Considering we were down 20, I'd say we have them almost everything they wanted though we didn't play our best game.

But are you telling me Toppin hadn't heard anything like "Hey, you suck!" anywhere yet? Come on man. That's hardly a personal insult. I'm disappointed they didn't come up with more creative ways to get under his skin, but this is hardly something to provoke outrage.

Blake's points were missed last night. Other A10 competition every weapon maybe not needed, but Dayton too strong not to have him and expect to win. Box shows Nick and JG shot exceptional going 9-17 with 3PTers.

What says though Blake wouldn't have gone 4-8? Not an excuse but just a reality of the situation. Dayton had to play well to beat the Spiders by just 8.

I really like Obi Toppin. He seems like a good dude on top of a talented basketball player. As AG said, he plays with a lot of joy.
When we fouled with less than a second left , I laughed as he was smiling and waving at the baseline camera.

My parents saw this and were laughing about it at home. I don't think anyone will get under his skin as he is always talking and laughing with players on the other team. I would like to see UR again in championship game of tournament with you guys full strength. Not sure if the team that was down by 20 or the team that cut it to about 6 is the team you guys really are.

Noticed last night that our regular announcer was out again (maybe the third or fourth game in a row?). Does anyone know when he is expected back?

And you can say the same thing for Dayton did not play there best game how many times have you seen UD play 5 pt turnaround on a bogus call on Landers .Give credit to both teams for playing some defense.

have to give the guys credit, UD is very good, our guys never quit make that one 3 that bounced off at the end and we may have come all the way back -- I don't know how Blake would change the outcome, but will be interesting if we meet again in NY

Well, where are we getting 8 extra shots from? That's my whole point. Those eight shots he takes would have come at the expense of someone else's shots. Gilyard and Sherod scored at an incredibly high level. If Francis had played, how much more could he have done, really?

I think Jacob would have scored substantially less if Francis played. he would not be as aggressive offensively.

I agree with you, but I think that needs to change when Blake comes back. We are at our best when Gilyard is aggressive and driving the ship. Maybe he doesn’t have to go for 27, but he needs to stay aggressive.

We will win a lot of games if Francis & Gilyard both score on each possession...;)

Completely agree. And it's not conjecture – we saw it happen a number of times when Blake was healthy. And nothing against Blake, but there just aren't enough shots for him, Jake, Nick and Grant to all score 20 points a game.

I mean, we scored 79, which is our highest total against a quality opponent all season. Was offense really the problem?
our 2-point scoring was a big problem.
we were fine from 3 and from the foul line but we were 17-50 from 2-point land. at our usual 52.8% clip from 2, we'd have made 9 more baskets. 18 points.

Yeah, but you're talking about missing Blake, who's what....42% from 2? I don't see him adding that many points among the trees, and if he's chucking up 3s, Gilyard and Sherod are shooting less.

Hopefully we meet again and can find out.

Why are you assuming Jacob and Nick shoot less 3s if Blake played? We had 50 2 point shots. Why couldn't we have had 40 2s and 10 3s from Blake?

Very good post. Toppin is exciting to watch and an unbelievable good basketball player that excels at all aspect of the game. He is known for is tremendous dunks, but his defense is just as good. It has to really suck to have him covering you. He also seem to be a great guy, always smiling, giving all his teammates high fives. He even gave Grant a high five during the game, after Grant made a nice play. I liked watching him so much that I have already bought tickets to see him destroy VCU in a couple week. I also look forward to the Spider beating them in the A10 conference with Blake back.
