Fire Stallings!!!!!!

I would very much like for Dan Hurley to move there and a lesser coach take over at Rhode Island

Disagree. The A10 completely stinks already. We do not need another bad coach in the A10 making it even stinkier. Last year we traded Archie Miller and Wille Wade for Anthony Grant and Mike Rhoades and the results are pretty obvious. We can't go further in that direction.

Just because we don't have our own house in order doesn't mean we need to root for everyone else in the league to have disorder in their house too.

I never said a bad coach, I just don't want a coach who should be at a Power 5 team coaching a foe in the A10. Conference is down this year but the conference having one down year isn't going to kill it long term and is bound to happen every so often with a mid-major conference. Why would we want to purposefully lessen our (Richmond's) chances at topping the conferences by keeping great coaches in it? I want mid-major coaches not P5 coaches in charge of our competitors.

Simply put, rising tides lift all ships. Your mentality and the mentality of our leadership is why we should probably make serious consideration to dropping down to the Patriot League if we desire to go to the NCAA, which I do. We joined the A10 to win a tough conference that produces multiple NCAA bids. We did not join the A10 to win a watered down conference with weak competition.

Come on. I want a coach to leave so now I have a bad mentality because I disagree with you? Ok. That doesn't make any sense. Rising tides do not carry all ships. How has it helped Fordham or Duquesne since joining the A10? Or Kansas in college football? Or Northwestern for the longest time.

Having ONE coach leave for a higher profile team isn't going to change anything or irreparably hurt the conference. I'd say that your mentality is the reason we won't be successful, instead of trying to get success for ourselves you try and find ways to get successes from other teams when they don't exist. My mentality. lol.

Yeah, we used to hate Xavier because they were good, but damn, they were good and they held this league together for a long time with Temple. We were a better league with X in it than we are now. And they have continued their ascent.

I agree that if we are just going to putz around here, we might as well downgrade to a lower level conference. But probably lower than the Patriot, considering we can't beat Bucknell and they win that league every year.

This I agree with (your first paragraph). Having two top teams in the conference is a lot different than having two coaches in the league. If VCU and Rhode Island (or take your pick of who the 2nd team would be) I wouldn't be supporting it. But those two teams losing their coaches to major conferences? Nowhere near as big of a deal.

Duquesne and Fordham are on TV more times than they would be if they were in the MAAC, where they probably belong.

Kansas is a basketball school. Even though they did make the Orange Bowl, about a half dozen years ago with the morbidly obese guy as coach.

Northwestern gets a cut of the TV Revenue and all the exposure from the Big 10 network, just like everyone else in that conference.

Any more questions?

Uhm, you saw what happened to Dayton and VCU this year, which are two of the bell cows in the A10, right? They were playing a lunchtime game today for the right to play the 1 seed.

Wow you are incredibly condescending and rude.

Almost as if both VCU and Dayton both losing 6 seniors from last years team affected them in a negative way! That has much more to do with that than the coaching change. But I see that you are only interested in cherry picking which facts and statistics prove you're right and that everybody who disagrees with you is wrong.

Edit: Wasn't intending on this becoming possibly heated but the condescending way in which you replied really rubbed me the wrong way.

Look buddy, I realize that you never saw Richmond experience any real achievement in basketball while you were in school and I'm sorry that's the case. I'm sure you're a good Spider supporter but I wish you knew to expect and want more. That's probably not your fault either. Good luck to you.

This league had 6 NCAA bids 4 years ago - a strong league is good for all teams, for exposure, for $, for recruiting, etc. Even better if you're a team that gets one of the bids.

I'm amazed that the followup to being called condescending is more condescension. But that shows me all I need to know unfortunately. Some fans make the rest of us look bad, I pray you don't act like this around fans of other teams and make us look bad.

how else would we win??

I mean, you asked him some specific questions and he gave you some specific answers. That's not condescending, IMO.

I'm a little concerned that i'll be put on vacation until early April like VT Spider for calling you a snowflake. So I won't.

I won't complain to anybody. You're entitled to act rudely towards others and not show them respect. That's your right. I'm just disappointed to see fellow Richmond alums treating people disrespectfully. The standards for the school really have changed from your days to mine.

Let's see Mo's been on here basically forever and has over 18,000 some posts. You came along about 2 weeks ago and are saying he is making other fans look bad, because he disagreed with your point. OK?

And yes, if we keep losing great coaches that hurts the league both short and long term. That is not even really debateable, in my opinion.

Yes I'm new here. I don't think that should mean I have to suck up to others and agree with everything they say. I don't care if he is someone who has been here a day or 10 years, acting rude is acting rude. Bringing up how long I have been on the forum has nothing to do with this. I only responded the way I did due to how I viewed him responding to me. But this is between me and him and I mean no disrespect to him. I've already moved on from this with him. I'm not going to let 5 posts get in the way of my potential interactions with someone who I know is a diehard Spiders fan. Heat of the moment, nothing else.

I think you incorrectly assessed his initial responses as condescending. They look fine to me.

The tension on the board is high right now. We are all on the same team here.

Yes since I will soon be missing my "Spider basketball fix" and after a very trying season I am kind of tense. (After reading this thread about "Stallings being canned" the thought came to my mind of the enlisted boot camp days of being literally nose to nose with a Navy petty officer spraying my face with his saliva as he said "unkind" things about my mother and family and told me all my faults in very colorful language- some of which were made up. Then with the change in society years later serving as a Navy Chaplain and going into a Coast Guard Station and a Coast Guard Master Chief who had been on Navy patrol boats in Viet Nam telling me "Chaplain you will never believe it! New recruits are given "time out cards" that they can hand to you and you have to give them 20 minutes of silent cooling off time.) Disclaimer: Material in parentheses is purely for "entertainment value" and not to be taken any other way

This is true. We all want a new coach.
I don't.

More importantly, does anyone have any actual info if the younger Golden would reconsider and come to us? Should I start getting excited? I need something to get excited after this season...

I’ve seen nothing that makes me think he’ll de commit. He tweeted HTP 2 days ago when he probably knew Stallings was most likely on his way out. Don’t get your hopes up

I thought so too initially, but Kevin Sutton (who heavily recruited and built a relationship with Bryce) is also leaving, which changes things. Here's these tweets

This on top of the fact Richmond was his second choice, playing with his brother who has won many accolades (showing he too can win them), great education at UR, and the Queally Athletic center which will be open his Junior year... there is certainly a lot to consider

That gives me a lot more hope than I had before. Wait and see I guess
