Fire Mooney

St. Joe's and St. Louis have recovered nicely from their dismissal of esteemed coaches. I never thought St Joe's would recover from firing Phil Martelli.

Isn't a better (and more likely to be successful) approach to convince him to step down? It's evident he doesn't like the status quo of college basketball, and this board has already suggested he could follow Tony Bennett and Jay Wright because of the changes in the sport. So maybe someone should suggest that he take a break for a few years. Surely we can find or create a different position for him if he doesn't want to leave the university or the city.

Retire, fire, moving on to other endeavors. I don't care what wording they use. As long as Mooney is leading this program, we are stuck in this perpetual cycle of mediocrity, with a few highs, but much longer extended lows.
Mediocrity would be a big improvement at this point.

Call into radio shows the same way when they tried to move us in the patriot league back in 2005. Thats the last time we defeated the nerds on campus afraid of being great in athletics and we won a national title less than 3 years later. I was in the studio that morning with Ray Tate and the anger was palpable.

Call in and be relentless citing statistics as to why we are behind in every metric as our city foe and why they think its ok?

I nearly wanted to drive into a steel pole on Thursday listening to Big Al's replacement pussyfoot around an excellent call about the state of our program. All the host could do is spread the same bullshit talking points our admin pushes while ignoring all the issues that plague the program.

That Dukebag moron should know better than to say stay with the devil you know because it could be worse. Wonder if he regretted JMU firing Mickey Matthews. Then cited Matt Brady's situation as similar to Mooney's. They also fired him and made the NCAAs shortly after.

ESPN 950 is a major issue here. They spread propaganda and putting lipstick on a pig and come across very little resistance to the current state of the program.

Or get creative and buy a billboard with VCU fans asking to extend Mooney....maybe then they'll get it?
950 is VCU's station so they like us quite well in the place we are in. The other sports radio which broadcast our games is 106.1 and they employ Bob Black, so no one is going contradict the resident "expert" on all things UR at that station.

And yes, the "Extend Mooney" from VCU fans billboard would be a first rate troll job.

Sorry 106.1 used to be WXGI 950 so I have always still referred to it as that.

VCU is AM 910 and that station is a joke, but I will say MP on the Mic is a pretty listenable show when they aren't fellating VCU. The guy who comes on after him sounds like he has a punchable face.

I don't even think VCU fans would stoop to that. First off, never interrupt your enemy in the middle of making a mistake, second I think they legit are over us as a rival since we don't bring much to the table and have done virtually nothing to derail their success the past 20 seasons save the A10 tourney run. Off record I've spoken with several Lambs that wouldnt mind us being competitive. Look at how few Ram fans come over here and troll compared to 10 years ago. Part of that is they're not a rock star program like they were, but another reason is I think there is a faction within that base who would like to have someone to hate and are a threat.

“First off, never interrupt your enemy in the middle of making a mistake”
So that isn’t the best time to take a timeout?

If VCU fans put up an "Extend Mooney" billboard, that would put Hardt in a no-win situation. If he extends Mooney it will look like he's giving in to (or agreeing with) VCU fans. If he doesn't extend Mooney....... that's an interesting idea
