This may sound weird, but guys who transfer out of UR to finish at another school do not hold the same place as Spiders to me as those that finish here. Graduating and being a life long supporter of the program means, it is all UR for me. I am wondering how others feel.

Sure, I’ll bite. For me it depends—I think someone leaving for their postgrad year is different than someone transferring out during undergrad. I’m not mad at Khwan Fore, for example, because he gave UR a lot of time and took an opportunity to chase an NCAA berth that he didn’t see coming at UR. Much less concerned with what Jake Wojcik’s up to.

I don’t care either way. If a guy gives us four years then that’s great, I don’t begrudge anyone seeking a fifth year elsewhere.

In our particular environment, I expect it. It’s actually illogical at this point to think you’ll make the tournament here, so if that’s a guys motivation, there would be plenty of other programs where they would greatly increase their chances of postseason play.

Any potential starter that leaves significantly effects his reputation with Richmond fans. Players that don't get a lot of minutes I have no problem with transferring and wish them the best. I like Jake Wojcik and hope he does well with Fairfield.

I personally would have prefered kwan to stay, but didn’t begrudge him leaving. I would loudly cheer him returning to the Robins Center.

Have any past Spider transfers excelled at the schools they transferred to? I can’t think of any.

how far back do you want to go? i can think of a few from the pre-Mooney days that were key parts of NCAA appearances.

I don't think Fore would ever equal Cedrick Lindsey or Gilyard or either of the KAs in Spider lore, even if he had been as good. That is all I am saying I guess.

But I guess I don't begrudge kids who don't play from transferring to find more minutes.

I don't know why you think that, T. yeah, I know ... Mooney. of course.
but we were likely a tournament team a year ago, and every expert including the coaches of the A10 thought we were this year too pre-Sherod injury. if Grant comes back, we'll certainly be ranked near the top of the A10 again. might even be without Grant, but we're better if Grant comes back.

I am sure he will be welcomed back by the 6 to 12 negative posters, who think all of our players should transfer, but not by the other 7500 fans in the stands. I don't think we will ever see Khwan again in the Robin Center. What is sad for him is that very few will remember him at Louisville. He is a man with no college home.
Out of curiosity, if a non-athlete student gets a Masters or PhD at an institution other than UR are they no longer an Alum of UR?

I think that because I’m a numbers guy. Neither the statistics nor the trend suggest we will make the tournament. I’m not bashing CM although he’s ultimately accountable. It’s just illogical to think we will.

I recognize that we are as well set up as possible to make the tournament if a bunch of these guys return though so it’s reasonable to be more optimistic given that but there’s compelling data to indicate we won’t make it and that in fact, last year was an anomaly.

EDIT: My comment was in no way directed at Grant, not sure why you inserted that. It’s a general statement regarding any player who chooses to move on. There are a variety of reasons guys will leave, not just due to tournament aspirations.

This is a ridiculous statement. Our fan base is one of the mildest I’ve ever seen, I hardly think he’d get booed out of the RC.

Oh, and the guy has a UR diploma, it seems remarkably petty to suggest he has no college home. I mean come on man.

This is such a stupid take. Do better.

The original post reminds me of pro players who play most of their careers for one team and then end up somewhere else for a year or two. Somehow that just feels wrong that they didn't retire as a (whatever the original team was).

So I think where I come down on this I I get the decision, intellectually, but I don't really like it as a fan.

You're a generally reasonable person, but this is a despicable take.

I apologize that my wording might have been poor. I believe Khwan should be welcome on Campus and participate in any alumni activity. I am OK with him attending basketball games in the Robin Center. This applies to any ex player of U of R. With that said, I believe his perception by the average fan has been hurt by the fact he transferred to another school. Any payer that transfers will have his reputation as a Spider tarnished.

I apologize that my wording might have been poor. Khwan is always welcome on Campus and participate in any alumni activity. He also is welcome to attend basketball games in the Robin Center. So, is your role in some way part of a campus & RC welcoming committee? Do you coordinate this with the ever popular Queally?

I feel like I missed something.

Seems like a good time to pour some Bacardi and throw on the Doobie Brothers.

I was replying to a post that has since been removed. Alcohol may or may not have been involved in the original post. I prefer a good single malt, but love doobies!

I was trying to find an alcohol that is fairly universally relaxing.

But I too enjoy the macallan.

Grangestone Scotch double casked in rum or bourbon barrel is excellent and very reasonable.

Doesn't bother me, and I've been a fan of UR before Mooney was here. That's longer than the "future is bright" Mooney loyalists have been around.

If a former player comes back and praises Mooney. Got some really great grades. But we didn't reach our full potential. pity.

I have a daughter at Tech and one at VCU. Can I get a blessing from someone to allow them to attend games with me?
You kind sir have my blessing to come to the game in a Bones Hyland jersey and sit at the end of the Spiders bench. If Mooney tries to have you removed, just tell them "23 sent me and said it is OK"
