Fallout from Stallings dismissal

Really hoping the FMM twitter account doesn't start tweeting at him. The irony of an account advocating for him to join a team where they want the coach fired when he just left because the coach got fired. I know that account doesn't use logic but I'm really hoping they'll use some here.

That's dandy and all...but that still shows that they'll be tweeting about him before then. Recruits look at social media, if he sees half the tweets about his name coming from people who want the coach fired I'm sure it'll have a small impact on things. Also funny because 6 months would be the offseason and then they'll be back tweeting to fire him when the season starts again. It really is a hollow gesture.

Brad Brownell at Clemson was in a similar situation last year. People calling for his job on social media. Clemson fans even created a petition to get him fired. What did he do? Didn't complain about the "noise." He hit the recruiting trail and landed a Top 50 class in the country. Now Clemson is back in the tournament and all is well over there.

I don't want to hear about the "noise" from Mooney because quite frankly he's the one who created it. Imagine Brownell complaining about "noise." That would have only pissed off Clemson fans even more. And if you really don't think opposing coaches are like "They haven't been to a tournament in 7 years, why would you want to go there?" you're crazy.

I feel Mooney has a chance to replicate what Brownell did with Bryce. If we can land him we'll be in the top part of our conference and SHOULD be in the NCAA tournament. Add a decent grad transfer and I think we can win the conference. Will he do it? History says no but only time will tell.

Recruits probably look more at the fact that we haven't been to the big dance in 7 years. And frankly if our fan base wasn't grumpy about that, it would really show that we don't care all that much about winning.

This is so incredibly foolish. You're comparing an A10 team to an ACC. But also on top of that you're advocating for bashing the coach, team, and program on social media while a recruit we are trying to land (and his mom) use social media and monitor what is happening on Twitter. You say Mooney can't make any excuses but how about the FMM stop making excuses for their behavior

Huge difference between that and being recruited by an account called FIRE MOONEY when you're literally only on the market because you didn't like that your previous head coach had been fired.

Nobody else sees the irony here?

can Pitt limit his choices? I know many team don't let you transfer in conference or to teams on the schedule. but since he hasn't enrolled, is that still an issue?

he'll have options for sure. I worry about Maryland. Big East teams, too. this isn't something Mooney or anyone can just "make happen". kid might still want the high major conference spotlight. he chose the big conference team once already. or just a bigger school.

there's also the Sal signing since his decision. some of you seem to discount Sal, but he's a highly ranked player at the same position. I doubt Sal or Bryce will ever play the 3. Nathan either.

man, the roster would suddenly look really freaking strong with Bryce added. still have to teach them all how to play defense though ...

Deion, Wood and Butler all spent time at the 3 under Mooney, and were all 6'7+. Mooney will play tall players at the 3 if that is the best option. We are stacked at the 1-3 next year, so it is unlikely a forward would get time there, but in two years or three years or in specific defensive situations we could see one of these taller players at the 3.

The school can't technically limit choices when giving an NLI release, but they can sort of work around that. From my understanding, there are two types of NLI releases...release from the recruiting ban only and a complete release that lets them sign elsewhere.

In order to limit choices, they'd have to give a recruiting ban release, see where the athlete decides he wants to go, and then deny the complete release to prevent him from signing at the new school.

Once you’ve signed a letter of intent, you have to be released to sign wherever you want. If not, he would have to sit out a year (at least this is my understanding). If he wasn’t released and didn’t want to sit out a year, he could petition the NCAA for a release, but your coach being fired usually isn’t good enough. Once you’ve started classes on campus, you are required to sit out a year (pretty sure there was a kid who transferred from Ohio State to N.C. State this year that never played but started classes, and had to sit out this year after losing his appeal).

In regards to Pitt putting stipulations on the release (i.e. certain schools restricted), I don’t think this is technically allowed, but I also think it happens pretty regularly. That being said, I would find it hard to believe Pitt would put Richmond on the no fly zone, seeing we’re not a conference rival (or local rival), and the bad press they would receive blocking a player from going to play with his brother after the coach that recruited him was fired.

I do like our chances. he knows us, his brother's here, his family seems to really like and appreciate our coach, and this team does have great chemistry. but this is no layup ... and mid majors have been missing a lot of layups! ;)

No it's not foolish. I gave you a similar situation and showed how noise didn't affect Brownell and it should't affect Mooney.

And if you don't think opposing coaches are telling our recruits, "They haven't made a tournament in 7 years, why would you go there?" you're insane.

You're arguing a point I never made, that's why I think this is foolish. This went from a specific twitter account advocating for a player to join the school when that player only left because the coach was fired. And that twitter account is also advocating for our coach to be fired. So if wanting a coach fired is their whole point maybe they should sit on the sidelines for this one...It seems painfully obvious they can only hurt us here not help

have I missed something where Mooney has made excuses "noise", negative posts or the FMM twitter? fake news?

You made a point that social media affects recruits. I made a rebuttal and it's foolish?

Bryce is currently in negotiations with the FMM. Bryce will come if they deactivate for 12 months. FMM is holding firm at 6. Rumor has it they'd be willing to go to 9 if Bryce brings a friend with him to fill the last opening.

That's not what I meant at all. I guess I'm a bit confused because I didn't see any relevance in what you had said in regards to my point. All my point was, was that a twitter account called FIRE MOONEY MAFIA is trying to recruit a kid who left Pitt because their coach was fired! How does that not seem like a bad idea? This isn't Mooney making noise or making excuses. That has nothing to do with what I'm saying at all.

I think you made valid points, all I'm saying is that I don't see their relevance to my original point. I don't think you are foolish. I don't think what you said was foolish. I just think us having this entire "argument" about things that aren't related is foolish

don't bother arguing with this loser. he hosts a wannabee blog which no one reads, and wants to have it both ways...Bash the coach, but ask for recruits to come....When you have no real life skills, create a fake on line presence and try and live your dreams....

Just for clerical purposes want to let it be known to you (and others) that although you and i had the disagreement that was NOT me that posted that. Was a different 3rd party. Don't want you or anyone else to gloss over the username and think that was my response to you...

How about we start supporting the team now, the season is over now. I think it is time to fry another fish. I hope we all would ignore the negative noise in the room and focus on helping our team out by encouraging recruits to be the one(s) to power the program to the top!!!

That's exactly what I'm trying to advocate doing. Thank you for agreeing!

Do you know how many fan bases on message boards are calling for the coach to be fired in some form or another? Probably half. I think recruits would be questioning Mooney's own level of success rather than some fans twitter account.

Oh I wasn't aware everyone else was doing it. That makes it ok for us to do it. Phew.

Also what you just said isn't relevant to what I said at all. I don't care what is said on here. It gets boring when it is in every thread. But when a twitter account calling for the coach to be fired is recruiting a kid. Why would he even want to consider?

I think 3 people now have tried to argue what I've said by arguing a different point than what I made. I don't understand why?

Again, an apathetic fan base is going to look far worse to a recruit than one that has a few fans that think we need to make a change.

As Eight has pointed out, our coach is in a club with only two people in it.

Clearly most of you didn’t read the article. Pitt expects to limit the releases based on not going to another ACC school or to any teams on the 2018-2019 schedule.

So make sure Pitt isn’t on our OOC slate...Gracias.

One thing I couldn’t find is if the enrolled players are immediately eligible if they transfer. What I read didn’t note any exceptions that would allow immediate eligibility but couldn’t find anything definitive.

This is irrelevant for Bryce as he’s under NLI and not enrolled, just was curious.
