Hopefully we can actually pull this off Friday night. If we do it will help to turn the tide on this season maybe. We have reason to believe we can beat Davidson because mooney has a good overall record against them and especially at the robins center. I was thinking about this before but does anyone else think that our administration is fine with mooney being mediocre in most games but having a good record against schools like Davidson? I truly believe that UR as an administration just wants to be average at best but make sure they beat other “good schools” and that they don’t really care about the record against vcu for example because hey at least we’re a better school than them and that’s all that matters. Same can be said about football with just being ok at best but making sure we beat William and Mary at the end of the year. The people running the school just want their Princeton review ranking and to be able to hold athletic success over other similar schools as UR so they can make one little comment at their fancy cocktail parties with the administration of those schools. Anyone else think that way of thinking is what runs the athletic department?

I would just like to hear it from our administration. If they state their goal is to just compete except for certain schools then I can just buy tickets for the games I want to see. No more season tickets and no more donations.
Sorta like going to the movies.

I know Mooney has a great record against Davidson. Davidson is 13-2 and they are one of the top shooting teams based on stats. They shoot a ton of threes. If they make the threes they will beat us. Also they don't turnover the basketball very much. They beat Alabama earlier this year. I feel like they due for a win against us. Plus we are coming off a 9 day layoff. We are either ready to play or come out flat. Coming out flat shouldn't even happen. With Mooney it already has happen this year.

Mooney owns Davidson. They play a soft brand like us, and we seem to one up them at that game. Spiders by 7 is my prediction. Davidson is pretty good this year, but this is the turn around spot for the Spiders finally. Goose with 11 points and is all the buzz after a scintillating, sensational, super senior performance, putting the 2 guard debate to rest and solidifying the rotation.

Steph Curry is not walking through that door!

This is January!!!!!

Realize that past results are no guarantee of future performance but in the PAST Davidson has had a tendency against us to be "off" in their 3 point shooting. Let's hope that continues!

This game is a conundrum for sure. They are definitely due for a win against us, but they are also due for a loss in general this season.

Just feels like this is the year they get us. They're playing really well and our 3-point defense has not been good this year.

Guys it is not that tough. Gilly said 16-2. Come on, you can't go on a 15-0 run, by starting 0-1. In fact, every game from this point forward, we should kind of know what to expect. W. Davidson does not even know what is about to happen to them. After 5, eh 6 years of screwing around playing ball when they want to (usually for about 20 minutes of every game) this team has finally said, you know what, were just gonna win them all now. AND, they have the perfect leader at the helm to do that. Mr. seize the moment their is no tomorrow, head coach Chris Mooney. This team was made for this moment, they have never let us down before (except for all of the times that they have). So it begins, the greatest 2 months of glory of Chris Mooneydom we have ever experienced. We've been forewarned, Hardt is going to be spiking the football all over FMM and this board's a** come March.

It's like hitting the lottery at this point. We are probably going to lose against Davidson. Say we competed and kept it close. Just like the St.Josephs game where we got blown out. They just beat St.Josephs by 15. So we are heading for the loss here. It's time for everyone to head to the exit.

Unsurprising, but Mooney says he expects us to have a makeup game between Davidson on 1/14 and La Salle on 1/22.

Fordham has games scheduled for 1/15, 1/19, and 1/22, while Mason has games on 1/17 and 1/22. Seems tough to squeeze something in there, so there may be some adjustments to fit one of them in or else maybe a later game can be brought forward to create an opening later in the schedule.

Time for an "EXTEND MOONEY" billboard!

You know what they say about the lottery, you can't win if you don't play. And Gilly has thrown our chips in on this one. We can't lose, I can feel it.

We are up 72-70. Davidson gets last possession. And...
It is Loyer (who we haven't seen before) for 3.
Davidson 73-72...

Yep January, not February when Mooney’s team finally figure out defense. Another loss.

"One of the reasons I came to the University of Richmond is that I was very excited about being at a Division I school that had high academic expectations of their student-athletes. Because they are student-athletes. Our grade point average for student-athletes is higher than the overall student average. This year, they had the highest grade point average in history amongst our student-athletes. Our coaches really focus on the fact that the students are student-athletes. And what that means is that every year we won’t have, perhaps, championship teams. Championships are great, but the primary goal is to provide an education to these students. There are residual benefits from being an athlete, particularly leadership benefits that accrue. I think our students get an unparalleled education while also having the support and excellent coaching and facilities necessary to be competitive in their sports. That means some years you’re going to do better than others. We’ve just gone through a strategic planning process. I think John Hardt has done a great job mapping out an overall plan for our athletic programs as we move into the future."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I included the entire world salad just to show that winning is not at all a priority at this school. Only building nice facilities after we have already fallen behind and playing catch up. Straight from the presidents mouth. Our rivals down the street are poised to make another run at a A10 title in a rebuilding year while our best class ever struggles to even stay in the post season conversations and were being told all is well. I get its a long season and things can change but short of another late season rally or A10 tourney title we will be watching, not participating in the NCAA tournament for 10+ years.

I don't know how y'all feel but I am tired. Not angry just tired of watching the same ole with the same ole excuses from above. I understand the urge to point the finger and blame one person or coach but to me this goes so much higher than simply replacing a coaching staff or putting your name on a building. This stuff is engrained at the top of the very top of this school. I rarely have any energy to debate topics with posters on here because we all know what this is headed for. I don't even take joy in hating on VCU. I wish we cared about beating them as much as they enjoyed rubbing it in our faces each time they do it to us. A win over Davidson would be nice but being 13-3 would be a lot nicer.

We have a billionaire mega donor who could write NIL checks larger than Texas A&M's entire 30 million dollar recruiting class while our AD is probably afraid of how to navigate it. Heaven forbid we compensate student-athletes that give him a job doing nothing but cashing paychecks and patting himself on the back for our fantastic graduation rate. A rate which is ironically higher than the student bodies, yet the perception among our administration is winning and being good at academics are mutually exclusive.

Some days it just sucks to be a fan of this school.

NET has Spiders 8th in A10 and Kenny has them 7th. They will no doubt finish higher but this is an earn some respect game against the present best team in the conference when you were thought as being that caliber of team. Only shot at these guys this season so please WIN.

Mooney kind of owns Davidson but Davidson has hot and is playing for an at large NCAA bid. On the other side, Gilyard says we are about to go 16-2 in conference, so I guess that starts Friday. Davidson by 5.
One thing - Davidson is another of those teams that we match up well against. Davidson is not a physical team. That's one reason we have a chance. Not like they pound the boards like teams that give us fits. If we shoot well, we stay in the game.

Yep I really stopped hating vcu about 5 years ago. I can’t hate them when they have something we can easily have if we just make a little effort. All it does is make me hate our administration even more. Quick point on the nil; I noticed when flipping through the radio this past weekend that on 98.5 (the vcu station) that they had players advertising for their own nil deals. I have yet to see anything like that with any UR players. I’m sure there have been deals but I know all too well that asleep at the wheel John Hardt and the rest of the administration won’t make any effort to keep up on this front. I really don’t see the self described “meat and potatoes” John Hardt as being a guy who will try to understand and work with the new NIL era.

Frame this post and hang it in the Spidernation Hall of Fame. Right after we build the Spidernation Hall of Fame, specifically to house this post.

Danny Rocco was spot on with his "vision" comments. Crutcher's comments are all the proof we need to see that winning is not valued. It is such a short sighted view to have. It really is a shame that the President of the University fails to realize Spider Athletic's potential. You can value education and winning at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive like Crutcher suggests. This is what happens when woke academics are in charge. Really sad.

Crutcher's comment make me want to vomit. I don't think it is any surprise given that why we hired Hardt. He came from the Patriot League, a league that values academics way above athletic accomplishments, so he fit Crutcher's vision perfectly.

There are residual benefits from being an athlete. What a profoundly uniformed, myopic statement to make. That is right up there with the Cooper mush statement.

The question to me would be if you are a top level athlete why would you come here given that. UR places no value on your athletic success or accomplishments, so long as you get good grades. Pathetic.

Same, Ferrum. I used to despise VCU Basketball with every fiber. Now i watch their games and admire their intensity and find myself liking their coach.
Agreed. Rhodes is a stand up guy. I listened to his coaches show last night on the way home. Honest, open, transparent, real meaningful conversation from him. My dislike for VCU is still there, but there is also a respect for that program and the way the conduct business. And also the knowledge that is completely opposite to how we conduct our program is galling.

VCU's basketball program frankly aligns with my worldview of athletics, winning, competing for championships way more than UR program aligns. Very sad and frustrating on a number of levels.

Don’t even get me started on how I feel about this. My dad is a perfect example. Came from a small town and went to UR for free because he had good speed and was great at catching a football. He has made a very successful career in the health insurance industry and not only him but many of his friends who were athletes at UR say they owe their success to what they learned and who they met while being an athlete at UR. Guess what, him and a lot of his friends used to be a lot more active with Ur but they are not anymore because of how the school is aligning itself. There are many more out there like my dad and his friends. UR is showing the door to all of those people. Nerds who stay in their room for their whole college career don’t make the world move.

Crutcher’s rationale appears more like trying to rationalize losing. If you can’t win the game, change the point of the effort. Pathetic

Crutcher said that we may not be having championship teams EVERY year. But maybe that was an auto-correct and he actually typed "ANY year".

After all this I'm almost sorry I didn't go to a public university. At least most of those guys are committed to WINNING championships....
