I’ve had heard conflicting stories about whether Danny is leaving or not but after listening to his post-game interview last night I would have to say we’ve seen him on our sideline for the last time. Like London’s interview after the App State playoff loss DR spoke in the past tense. Such a shame as I believe DR would have consistently taken us to the playoffs year in and year out as he’s already demonstrated.

If you had to point to his source if dissatisfaction – pin it squarely on his lack of a relationship with Keith Gill and that’s on Gill. (Gill does have a house in Richmond btw, but as others had said he spends a lot of time in NOVA). The scary thought is that if Gill survives this debacle he will hire our next coach – does anyone have confidence in that?

Coach Rocco is a very, very good coach and will be missed – we will feel this for sometime

Btw – hope I’m wrong.

Been looking for post-game audio, nothing yet. usually Spider athletics site posts video of interviews, and they usually post videos on YouTube page, but nothing in either location. Could be a delay due to late night travel.

I think the past tense language he used was in reference to "we built", not a "were continuing to build", which has spooked some.

He also stated that "I was honored to be a part of what we accomplished here." He was speaking about his 5th year seniors at the time. He's gone guys, as am I.

There is a team meeting scheduled for 4 pm today. Hopefully standard procedure for the seasons end, but typically the players are told first before the coach announces his departure..

Yes when I heard the postgame interview on ESPN950 also thought there was a lot of past tense, but maybe I was looking for it. With a team meeting at 4 P.M. if he is telling the team goodbye word will soon be spread.

If there is a team meeting at 4 pm, and if DR is telling the truth that he will sit down with the appropriate people including influential people interested in the program, including Crutcher, as he indicated, then I hope those meeting are occurring now. Otherwise he was just blowing smoke.

The word may be spread sooner if Delaware schedules a Presser an hour or two thereafter.
I don't want to appear naive, but I am guessing that there is a year-end team meeting every year whether the coach is staying or plans to accept another job. I am surprised that JOC has not obtained and reported some information one way or the other. Instead, he appears as puzzled as anyone.

I am concerned about losing Coach Rocco but still hopeful that we have worked out a situation acceptable to him which will make him content and willing to remain at UR for years to come, that we have come up with a vision acceptable to him along with as assurance of the reasonably necessary resources available to achieve that vision. That doesn't seem like it should have been an insurmountable task given what he said about our President "getting it" after the two of them met.

If we haven't done so, I will be very upset and inclined to move away from devoting my support to the university inasmuch as I stated previously we all want such a vision as part of our football program and want resources available to implement a plan to achieve such a vision. However, if we are willing to commit to such a vision and provide such resources, and Coach Rocco has already made up his mind to leave, I will feel entirely differently.

Sure sounding more and more that he's been doing just that. That's terribly disappointing if true.

He has already met with Dr. Crutcher (at length, last week). I think he was referring to his family and those important (influential) to him on the home front when he suggested those meetings at the end of the season. I suspect that he may have a donor or member of the BOT who he needs to follow up with, but I doubt that at this time such a meeting would be of consequence to his decision. It may be that Dr. Crutcher needs to get back with him with things that may have needed approval after their talk, but that would be just a guess on my part.

I don't know who he could possibly need to talk with at UR except for Gill and based on what has been said on this board, that seems very improbable. Even so, a meeting with Gill could be the final factor in his decision making should the two of them face to face resolve their apparent differences. Whatever the situation, I am thinking that all he now has in mind may be the need to run a few more things by his closest friends and advisors who he respects and trusts and have further discussion with his wife. Beyond that, he has all the information needed to make his decision, or he has already done so, and that he will announce his plans after the team meeting tomorrow.

If there was animosity between Gill and Rocco, why did Gill accompany the football team for the last 2 weekends?

Temple: The Delaware News Journal reports Richmond head coach Danny Rocco will meet with Temple officials today about their head coaching job. Rocco is believed to be the frontrunner for the Delaware job.

From coachingsearch.com

Dunphy and Rocco have the same personality. They could be good buddies.

Re: Temple close to naming coach?

If it's Danny Rocco, both of his coordinators at Richmond have extensive high-level FBS and NFL experience as assistants and coordinators. They seem to have the football chops.

Rocco, meanwhile, worked for several big names (Groh, McCartney, Coughlin) and jumped right from position coach to head coach at Liberty and then Richmond. So his resume is similar to Matt Rhule and his approach appears similar to Rhule in that he leans on high-level guys to run his offense and defense while he's the man in charge. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like he runs a pro-style offense.

He's 56, he's a PA native, he played for Paterno and then transferred to Wake Forest, and presumably his next job could be his last. He's been very successful at Liberty and Richmond.

Rocco spent a good amount of time at Liberty and for those who are aware all staff there are vetted by the Jerry Falwell standards. The place makes Baylor look wild and crazy.
Somehow I m seeing a consist thought. Does it fit with Temple conscious ? I don t know but sure is different. However , interesting
Just an FYI

You know... We're trying to build a stadium and we can't even hire a coach. And if you want to build a stadium, you need the coach to not only be successful but in a way larger than life. Temple has a real problem where everyone thinks they're bigger than the football program. My friends who are lawyers and bankers etc are too big time for our little shit program. It's funny. The last two years, this changed. Hall and Oates chimed in. Local news started doing Temple football broadcasts. And here we are again... potentially giving the keys to a nobody. It's gonna take 3 more years to get back to where we are right now... if we're lucky. Even Al Golden at least brings p5 chops. Matt Canada we can sell. Any Google search will tie him to LSU and bring credibility from day one. The average fan is not going to give an eff about a nobody. The only way KC Keeler or Danny Rocco win over these people is with more 10 win seasons. And you know what... that's really hard to do.

In 11 years at Delaware, Keeler finished with a winning record in league play 5 times. That ain't too good. Rocco, meanwhile, dominated the Big South, and in 11 years as a head coach, he's never had a losing record and he's won at least 8 games 8 different times.

And before you cry FCS, realize that he's worked at Texas, Colorado, Boston College, Virginia, Maryland, and for the NY Jets.

His overall resume is better than just about everyone else that has been mentioned for the job. And he's proven it as the head guy.

Just an FYI, we have absolutely no idea where anyone stands. Our entire interview and hiring process has been as secretive as can be.

So my Del. sources saying they are now very afraid of "losing" Danny to Temple (they have all talked about him as their coach for a couple weeks now). But, what they hear is that Temple is not ready to commit because there are some big donors that don't like the idea and the admin there needs some time to drum up and/or gauge support/backlash. Danny now asking for time from UD. UD weighing options but don't really have a great Plan B and will likely wait a few days. They (UD) believe its them or Temple and UR is out of mix.

So what' happens if Temple says no and Delaware says take a hike we've waited long enough?

I would say this isn't true because we have no big donors, but it makes sense.

Temple is days away from offering anyone, so interestingly DR may hold out for Temple and risk UD going a different direction , so perhaps in the end he stays by default. This then provides a whole new set of issues

Continuity is a good thing if your winning and have talent in the house(we do) so I'm hoping that if he does leave he doesn't take too many coaches with him year one and we stay in house to maintain continuity with the staff, recruitIng and game plan

We shouldn't wait days for a decision. Put an offer on the table with an expiration. If he doesn't want to sign, move on. I don't want to be anyone's third choice.

Danny remains under contract with UR until 12/31/17.Not sure what you're saying.

Danny has a smart agent.Good for him.

If he's not staying here do we want him at Delaware or Temple? Delaware could go after a coach we might be looking at. I'd say go to Temple so he gets a shot at FBS and we steal away Delawares second pick Huesman.

I think he's saying what he said. Give him and offer and pull it back in a day or two if he hasn't accepted it. Yes, he's under contract with us through the end of last year but we can't be left twisting in the wind on this.

If Rocco goes to Temple and Huesman goes to UD then it's the worst case for us.
