This is not confirmed and could very well be just a rumor but I have heard that there has been a posotive inside the program. Again do not take my word for it I am just relaying what I have heard.

I really believe the NCAA needs to move the tourney back 6 weeks. SLU hasn't played any conference games. Just seems like conference play will be disrupted and it doesn't seem like enough time to make up the games to have a balanced conference schedule by mid March.

Yeah, I think this is really smart. My late April-Early May the numbers with COVID should be much lower. Would allow teams to reschedule all of these lost games now . Heck might even be able to have some fan attendance by that time.

I heard from someone inside the school but not in the program. They also said it was a player positive as opposed to a staff member.

Hopefully someone had the sniffles and they’re doing this as a precaution... I’m assuming we’ll hear more later today

Yep, just 15 days..er, 30 days....no, wait 60, days.....oh 450 days to flatten the curve.

Too late to move tourney back now. Conference play has started, so you would be asking all conferences to shut down and then resume in a few weeks? Or conferences that could play - they continue, and if they finish - they might have a 4 week layoff between end of season and NCAA tourney? Not to mention - NCAA needs the tourney in March/April for TV reasons as they have no competition at that time. That is where they make the most money.
And that is the reason for the tourney - MONEY. That is the only thing driving the basketball season now. The schools and the NCAA need the money. And if you ask - what money - there are no fans. Its all TV related and possible tourney payouts if you make the NCAA tourney. And yes - it will be much less than years pass. But getting 500K is better than losing 1 million. It might help a school survive until fans are allowed back.

A delay of a few weeks seemingly would be possible (without taking TV and that stuff into account, which admittedly is a big deal), because most conferences are going to have a bunch of games to make up anyway. So they could do that at the end of the regular schedule, and teams that don't have games to make up could schedule some OOC games against each other. Then play your conference tourneys.

Hopefully it's just one person and the contact tracing doesn't knock the whole team out of commission. Get well soon to whoever is impacted!

anyone know when students/athletes will be getting the vaccine? I haven't seen any dates. I know they're focused on front line, and that's going slower than originally expected.

I hope they don't over react again and shut the whole thing down. Just test everyone and all who test negative keep playing and the others quarantine. Football is doing this at the college and pro levels with no outbreaks. Just use common sense, please.

Damn it. This is all Mooney's fault.

Well, that was without a vaccine, which is now here. We are peaking now but between the vaccine and just the sheer numbers that will have some form of immunity from having COVID, April-May should be much better than now.

As far as revenues, people are going to watch the tournament when it is on. It will be the number 1 in TV ratings whether you do it in March or May. TV will adjust just as they've adjusted to revised MLB, College Football, NBA schedules. I'm sure it will be complicated but if we learned anything with COVID is that everything is adjustable.

Agreed, it sounds like last time, they had some false positives and shut thing downs a bit prematurely. We have the luxury of 5 days till our next game. Should be plenty of time to contract trace the entire Tier 1 personnel and see where things lie.

Not sure it’s up to UR to determine whether to shut down/for how long

I honestly don't have an issue with college athletes or pro athletes being bumped up in the pecking order for vaccines. I'd say the same about anyone whose impact extends to multiple layers of people beyond just them. There is an economic argument to be made for ensuring that things like sports continue seamlessly. If they don't, millions and millions of dollars don't get injected into the economy.

Besides that, it's a relatively small group of people we're talking about anyway. Maybe like 5,500 D1 basketball players, 450 NBA and 700 NHL players, etc. I wouldn't prioritize them over the elderly or people with pre-existing conditions, of course, but you get the point.

It seems like covid is going to cancel everything. Shut down all of business. Get everyone the vaccine. Take the vaccine. One person gets the virus everyone freaks out. Vaccine again. Why I am still sick? Wash your hands.

What if its just one player and rest test negative? Does the game continue and just that one sits out?

It would probably depend on what contact tracing says on who was a close contact if there's a positive case.

What if that one player is Grant or Gilly? Honestly, if that is the case, from a competitive standpoint, I just take the COVID timeout.

There have been plenty of outbreaks at both the pro and college football level, causing players to sit out and games to be canceled/postponed. Furthermore, football has the benefit of large rosters that allow missing a few players to have less of an impact. Basketball has much smaller rosters and therefore missing players has a greater effect (see the nba).

If it is one, it could very well be both (roommates). Let’s hope for good news in the next round of tests.

I may need to revise my statement on another thread about the next 2 games. May not be the ones I was counting.

Can they just play outside on a court in the city?

Sort of like the NHL winter classics. Heck, why not trying anything we can to generate buzz. And to think of all the excuses we could use if we lost (it was too hot, too cold, too windy, not windy enough, etc)! Haha.

If we can get guys vaccinated just push everything back some. I have zero issue with NCAA basketball going from now until June if we had too. Add games as well if we want for a longer season. Keep the tv $$$ rollling in.
