You guys own Richmond this year. I swear Mooney knows us the best, out of any other coach in CBB. Enjoy the win.

Thanks for the kind words. The players were hugging each other at the end of the game. Richmond is a college basketball city.

Rivalries are much better if both teams are good. Games like this one make the rivalry better which is good for everyone involved. Will we meet again in the A10 tournament?

Made an account just to post this. VCU fan here, through and through, and man do I love this rivalry. AMAZING game played by both teams, UR is a force to be reckoned with and you all definitely have the Ram's number. I do not want this rivalry to go away, congratulations on your sweep, I pray for many more battles to come!

No bad blood, nor feelings, just some damn good basketball.

I agree with all the Ram sentiments posted above. It's a rivalry when we get games like this! I'd love to see you guys again in the tourney. While at the same time, I'd like to not see you guys again in the tourney lol.

Now for the storming of the court.... Maybe you don't do that next year if ya get a win. How do the Spider fans here feel about it? The ones I was sitting at the bar with tonight thought it was a little chintzy. I tend to agree.

Storming the court wasn't really about beating a ranked VCU. It was about students and our team celebrating a hard-fought win. Very controlled and the RMC folks handled it well. Since we've had a number of heartbreakers this season, more of a release for all of them.

Come on. There is no other team in the league you would have stormed the court for. Your post doesn't hold water.

VCU is #22 in the nation and we've admittedly had a tough year, I could see the smiles on the players faces as they stormed the court so I say go for it.

Near the end of the 2nd Ot, Graham walked by Mooney and just gave this big smile to him. Expression was clear, "can you believe this game". Both programs have a lot of respect for one another. Really epic game, obviously more epic since we won.

Definitely less VCU fans than usual. The few around me were nice folks. Fans on the court after the game was orderly and well controlled. Just happy kids.

Strangely, by the end of the second OT, I almost...."almost".... didn't care who won. It was that great a game.

Thanks for the posts from the Ram fans. I will probably continue to root against you in every game you play, but thanks. I mean it.

This makes me extremely angry!

Agreed. Graham was a leader tonight, no question. On a team of clones, he stood out.

I would delete this post if I were you. It could result in your offspring being denied admission to UR.

Thx to the VCU fans offering up their congrats -- good luck the rest of the way, represent the City well (except if we meet again) thoughts and prayers to Gilmore and his family, tough way to be taken out of a game

Great gut check win Spides ! Kudos to "freight train" Graham, classy warrior. Highest concentration of gold in the RC was the RMC event folks on the court protecting bench areas after court storming.

Thanks Ram fans unfortunately I can't return the gesture. I kind of hope VCU loses to either Dayton or Davidson or both. We (the A10) need to get two to three bids in the tournament, VCU is in; Dayton and Davidson seem to be on the bubble.

to be honest, if espn had not been so obsessive with the kansas state storming, doubt it would have happened. storming is now the "in" thing. heck if we had beaten longwood last night, the students probably would have done it.

Outstanding Play. Great game plan. If KA doesn't choke the FT's, we probably lose by 10 in regulation. Mooney had our number in the first half. At least we played some good D in the last 10 minutes. Huge props! I was worried when we found out Tillman and Gilmore were not playing. I think that cost us the game in the 1st OT. You guys outplayed us. Straight and simple!

Congratulations. That was the best game I've watched in a long time.

And. Shawndre really gave us the finger

Until next time!

There was one lonely VCU fan standing in the middle of Section 6 rooting for his team.
Gotta say I respect him, as did those Spider fans around him, for doing that in a sea of red . We had a similar situation years ago at Cole Field House standing in Red and rooting for the Spiders amidst a sea of Syracuse Orange.
(That one turned out pretty good.)
The guy sitting next to me commented that this VCU fan had a lot of guts but wondered... would a Spider fan wearing Red have been treated the same way standing amidst a sea of Yellow at the Siegel Center?
And what's up with MudKat, a classy VCU poster? Welcome back anytime MudKat.

Thanks for the congrats. The Ulla hopes VCU loses every game until the end of time.

If you are talking about the guy with his finest Sunday sweatpants on, it looked like there was some issue with him and a UR fan - he got pulled out by RMC for a talking to.

I enjoyed the man dressed like a ship's captain sitting in my section. Couldn't figure out what dressing like a sailor has to do with being a Ram, but didn't seem to deter him from looking ridiculous.

Although I find many on this board annoying, and of little class - each of the UR grads I know are wonderful people.

I wanted to highlight the very classy move one of your students made at the game. One student made a poster support Michael Gilmore and his family through this tough time. Maybe it's already been posted on this board, but I wanted to post again to make sure the Spider faithful we're aware of it.

thanks, Gopher. glad to hear that.
rivalries are great and make the games more special, but for the most part the hatred is over the top. both sides have stories, either seen through reb & blue or black & gold glasses, of why they hate the other. both sides have their dimwits. but both sides also have a lot of great fans, too.
I still pull for VCU to lose every game and I'm sure VCU fans feel the same about UR, but if those wishes came true our games would be really dull. we'd miss out on a lot of great memories.

Gopher, nice of you to recognize the efforts of the young man. But you only fuel the fire when you come to someone else's board and call them classless. I totally understand the annoying comment because many of us feel the same about comments that you and and other of your fans have made. But you don't know any of us well enough to get that personal based on comments made on a sports message board.

Gopher - I find many on this board annoying as well! So much so that I rarely read it anymore.

As for the rivalry, it is absolutely fantastic. The banter back and forth is great as long as it doesn't cross the line. I've been down to the Siegel Center the last 2 years and have had a blast. I haven't had a single problem with anyone - quite the opposite. It's one thing to root against a team and talk some crap, it is another to treat someone poorly because of the tee shirt they are wearing. It's 2 very different schools with very different missions both of whom do their jobs very well. We should all hope this rivalry stays competitive and relevant because it is very unique and special. To have that atmosphere and that level of play two times a year in our city is amazing.

Glad that someone made a decent poster for Gilmore. That, hopefully, offsets the fat girl who came in with a poster that said,"This poster is worth more than a VCU degree." The sign was inappropriate - and I couldn't find an RMC employee who seemed to know how to make fat girl put it away. To make it worse, the sign sucked and was barely readable. Hey students - if we say we have class, then please advise fat girl and others to actually have some class.

you looked for an employee to get her to put it away? based on what? I know this is a lovefest and all, but you want to make everyone conform to one view and be absolutely politically correct? she wanted to get under someone's skin and probably did, including you. she's allowed that freedom of expression. not necessarily without consequences, obviously. she might take some heat at the game, or be called a fat girl on a message board. which might in some people's opinion be even more inapproppriate or classless than the poster.
I've heard and seen much worse at college sporting events.

Yeah, in general I am not that impressed with the signs our students come up with -- they could be a little more creative. Ok, a lot more creative. But I don't view the "Shaka Dumb" sign and this other one as offensive, they're just trying to be funny and play up the rivalry. Offensive and reprehensible would have been a sign that said "I hate Shaka Smart because he's black." Big difference there.

I didn't see that many signs. Only 2 or 3. Nothing like a Duke game. Those are hilarious at times.

Thought the paper sign about the VCU diploma was funny as well as the Shaka Dumb. Gosh if political correctness and being thin skinned and offended about everything you don't agree with rule the day you will spend your life being offended. The only thing that has ever gotten under my skin in the Robins Center was when a student was either removed or at least forced to put his sign away because it said something about former president Cooper that those in authority didn't like.

I don't read the RPI board for a variety of reasons but can someone tell me 2 things:

1- Do Richmond fans post there?
2- Do Richmond fans tell RPI that they're posters are "annoying" there?

I can tell you this with certainty: I don't post on this board because I'm seeking the adoration of RPI supporters.

Stork3, In my eyes you are a lot more inappropiate and classless than a college student holding up a sign. Why did you have to say fat girl twice? She's a college student having fun and I assume you are an adult or at least old enough to know better. What can't you just say girl or female student, you jerk!
