Yeah not defending Hale on the hiring decision, just saying my understanding is that he sees value in Athletics and I think fights for it being an active force for the university.

I know the guy managing the NIL for VCU, he expressed to a mutual friend that it’s just a horrible experience. I can’t imagine that ours is much better.

Nobody will take my idea of playing up the having the WORST rivalry coach of ALL Time. It's hard to do something like that, basically impossible. when u r that bad, it can be good. Imagine how much sympathy we'd get every game vs. VCU, the whole nation could be rooting for us. national attention. It would be like we're a 15 seed all over again. maybe a 16! But this time we're just playing the commuter school 10 mins away who is in the same conference.

The only way that a worse rivalry coach possibly exists is if some P5 team inexplicably clung to a horrible coach for decades back in the 1920s or 30s but I feel confident in stating that Moonie is the worst modern rivalry coach of all time.
The interns research went all the way back to 1906 when the NCAA was formed.
I love this idea. Maybe a twitter campaign to the Goodman's, Rothsteins, etc of the world next season. If only a couple of the big accounts latch on (and sometimes they are looking for anything new to post) it could get some legs.
can't hurt but those guys, well I think Goodman at least, love the Moon man. because he's a "good guy". Now that wouldn't matter at a bigger school they would be calling for a coach's head, but at little ol' Richmond it's mean if u cut a guy loose after 20 years. Of course we just have to let it be known they're helping little ol' Richmond beat those big bad bullies who steal the little kids lunch money. we can tell Rothstein it would "life altering"
Barstool best target imo. One, it has probably 20 times the exposure of either of them, and two, Barstool actually has some Richmond connections.

Wouldn't you love to see him squirm if someone were to ask him a truly hard question about the rivalry record in a public forum? And then press him on it when he tries to dance around it by spouting off some buzzword stew mumbo-jumbo.
"Coach Mooney, your teams have played vcu 36 times now and your record is 9-27 in those games. We've looked and have been unable to find a worse record in a rivalry series in college basketball or any sport. Why has it been so difficult for your teams to beat vcu?"
It's really not a hard question for anyone covering the team to ask respectfully. Not sure why no one ever has.
It would disrupt the culture of comfort cocoon. Moon would probably get some tears in his eyes.
This is a question asked of any other major D-1 coach multiple times but yet no one asks Mooney.

Did not 80's point out that Tarrant had a losing record vs vcu? I'm sure he would not have had a problem with answering a question about that. I'm guessing it was not in the same stratosphere as Mooney's ineptitude. Unless GKiller's Interns (band playing at UR commons this Friday) are slacking in their research.
He’s never had a question even close to it. It’s crazy. 9-27 but we get questions like the backwards score lady asked other day. How did u go from losing by only 41 to losing by only 18? He’s complimented on losing vcu games. And Moon took the compliment…he said we played more composed and we were at home. We lost by freaking 18 and gave up 51 in the first half!
But if he did get pressed I know his answer….”thanks John we just have to introduce more tension earlier in the game. We’ll try to do that next time on my 37th try”
Maybe that was his wife asking the question? Was the next question: "How do you stay so cool, collected and dreamy-looking while your team is getting beaten by many points?"

No, that is accurate between 1979 and 2010 we beat VCU twice. So our recent record doesn’t look too bad…If anyone from UR's website maintenence is reading ...

How about, "Coach our overall record against our "rival" VCU is 62 losses and 33 wins, or 34.7%. wins, but your record is only 9 wins and 27 losses or 25% wins, whereas all other Richmond Coaches have been able to reach 24 wins and 35 losses or 40.6% wins. Can you explain why prior Richmond Coaches have enjoyed approximately 15% more success against our "rival" than you have?

But makes sense because like I've pointed out before on here, 3 of our 4 prior coaches were more successul than Mooney. and shocker 3 out of 4 also did better against VCU. But who could we ever get to replace Mooney. LOL.

Coach Tarrant had the same amount of wins against VCU, more NCAA tournament appearances, and more NCAA tournament wins in nearly half the seasons.
Yeah, but he didn't have to play hard teams in-league like *checks notes* everyone not named Duquesne and Fordham!
Tarrant was a real one. Bad ass winner that helped shape the top coach in the NBA this season.
