Coaches moving in 2021

Chop may have been a hs Football teammate at Lake Braddock if I recall correctly. Hubert good WR. I mentioned b4 so if redundant I apologize but I watched Hubert a number of times in hs. he was a little older. My old little league baseball coach was his hs hoops coach. Remember my local hs knocked him out of state or district playoffs ending his hs career after Hubert crushed us in reg season. Adjustments! But always rooted for Hubert from then on.
I've got lots of cool Hubert stories; even a couple from his NBA days. While we haven't stayed in touch, we were friends. I have no doubt if we bumped into each other on the street it would be a warm reunion. He is a very good dude. I will be pulling for him to succeed, and I've never liked UNC. Ironically, all three superstar athletes from LB in that "era" wound up in Chapel Hill.

Wes Miller could be an option for UR next year since he didn’t get the UNC job. More than likely a power 5 school goes after him but we have a shot if we can get the timing right.

Was Guthridge that much of a disaster? He went to 2 Final Fours and won an ACC in 3 seasons.
Or maybe you were being sincere? :) I thought I detected sarcasm.
No, I was referring to Doherty, but errantly said former assistants rather than former players.

So yes, sarcastic, but poorly posted.

Mia Hamm, Hubert & who was the 3rd?

I also attended a high school in the old Concorde District, or whatever it was called back then, but we pretty much got killed in every sport by Robinson, WS, LB and the other mega schools.

Wonder if Hubert will go the one and done route or try and build powerful junior and senior teams like UNC used to.

#HireMooney. Tucson is wonderful in the winter.
And Mooney is a choir boy, so he could clean up the litter of scandal left my Miller. I have a feeling they are going to look at Mooney's 10 year absence from the NCAA as kind of red flag though. It seems despite all of this positive attributes listed on here, every other school in the country doesn't want what he is selling. Why is that?

Not a change, but sticking this here since several folks have expressed interest in McKay if we should have need for a coach. Extended through 2028.

Liberty has deep pockets. So if money is all it takes and he is okay making over $1 million a year in Lynchburg and just winning the conference each year - they have the ability to keep their coach for a long time if they want.

Queally will only approve us hiring "regular" coaches, so McKay wouldn't be an option. (Yes, I'm pointing out the racism in Queally's statement.)

Big South to SoCon is a huge step up unless your name is Winthrop, and even Kelsey only moved up to Charleston (yes, I know he was 20 minutes away from becoming UMass coach a few years ago).

Jones is on a good trajectory, but I think he needs this step before the big boys will come calling. Miller, Forbes, Young all made great jumps from SoCon in the past few years...Big South doesn't offer those opportunities.

Maybe so, but he had a chance to win the league and make the dance every year at Radford, even more so now that Kelsey is gone. Don't see the same happening at UNCG. I think Miller elevated them to a level they probably don't sustain with the next guy (whoever it would be), but who knows. Maybe they are investing more and will stay there. Hope he does well.

I think his goals are higher than trying to win a low-major conference every year.

It is interesting that Radford was paying him $300k base, almost exactly what Miller was getting at UNCG. (Not sure how much the incentives came to for each of them.) But it doesn't look like much of a pay bump for him unless UNCG really opened up the pocketbook, which seems kind of unlikely.

I don' t know if Jones is looking to get a coaching job with the big boys. And honestly - don't know if they would give him a look at this point either. Remember - he is 55 years old, assuming he coaches at UNCG for 3-5 years - and if he does well, some schools come calling - I am not sure they want to sell their fan base on a 58-60 year old coach. The coaching game is moved to the young guys.
It is possible he gets a some looks with success at UNCG - but I think they dwindle as time moves on and his age increases. Not only for him, but many other coaches as well.

He already announced it, so I’d say about as far along as you can be.
So he is legally bound to stay at Radford and transferring to UNCG would be a NCAA violation?

Even if his announcement was verbal and never written and the coach left?

No, I mean if he hasn't formally signed anything he could still go elsewhere. Like Khwan did after saying he was going to UT. I don't know if Buck officially signed and was announced by Radford or not. Even if he did, they could let him out of it and I think he could still go elsewhere with no penalty but not positive how that works.

I don't think a transfer "signs" - he should be free to stay at Radford or follow Jones or go somewhere else.
