Chase Johnson - 2017 Offer

My perspective, for what it's worth, is that if we can get a commit from a 2017, who looks really good, like this young man, we should favor that over a "back-up" recruit for 2016. Wesson was the "real-deal" and would have been great, but we have not fared all that well with back-up recruits in past spring-times. However, if we want to lock down a 2017, we will have to do some hustling, and time is winding down... It will be interesting to see what our coaches decide to do, including holding open another "schoolie" or two, which may not be a bad decision.
Maybe in that time he will learn the real name of our university.
That's pretty fatalistic, no? UR has a lot of advantages over WVU. It all depends on what he values.
Let's just say he pinned the tweet saying they offered him to the top of his page. Not saying we can't win this one, just that it looks tough.
"Richmond University", I wonder what this school is like. Do they play D-1? I remember a kid who did this with his "Iowa University" offer.
that was done on 7/29 and Chase replied asking for someone to edit. the new one came out 8/1 with us on it.

Probably...but was worth Mooney visiting him this past Monday (along with coaches from VT, Tenn, Florida, WVU...), while we wait for him to cut his list in half.
agreed, but I'm guessing the relationship with Chase and the staff is really good. we've pulled out of recruiting battles against this kind of comp before. but CM and Jones going out to his workout again shows we still believe we're being considered. just like with JP, our roster and our opening at the 4 have to be appealing. this last recruit for this year has the clearest road to freshman year playing time in this class as we like need a big forward who can play right away.
got me. I don't know. seems to me we've stopped recruiting some kids over the years when the lists became huge and impressive. not worth pursuing. but if you're saying we've never pulled out, then I believe you.
We should stay after him if he's continuing to consider us. I have to think that our staff has some capability to know when we don't have a chance, although that could be untrue.
Immediate playing time is about the only card we hold against the level of competition. I think it's a tough sell on any other factor though, and that's not a knock on UR, just going to be difficult to convince any kid not to go to a high-profile program.

playing time alone isn't enough.
it would be tough for anyone to turn down playing for the highest major programs with the huge games they play. so much fun. but sometimes you find the place that just feels right, with the right coaches and teammates. no idea if we're that place for Chase, but we are for some really good ones lately.

Think a factor could be that he was a teammate and friend of Bryce Schneider. OSC
And because of that he may know our staff longer than some of the others while we were recruiting Bryce.
Certainly may not be enough but it couldn't hurt.
I noted above, we have been in on Chase longer than any of the other schools he had remaining on his Twitter graphic the other day. I think we stand a fair shake on longevity, I just don't know that it's enough to overcome the bright lights...perhaps the combo of playing time/friendship with Bryce/longevity on him would make a combined difference. Still gonna be tough.
