Can UR beat VCU?

Definitely not better without Weber. Weber had earned 3 to 5 "get away with foul cards" from the refs over the years. The new Hack-Voc guards will have to earn that refree respect over time. Several people mentioned 3 point shots, and that is the key. Guard Johnson well and keep a hand in Graham's face. It would be nice if we hit our first couple of attempts also. We also need to FINISH at the the end of fast breaks.

We will miss ANO on the boards. The main reason we won vs. VCU last time out was that we controlled the boards. Better than controlled it - we dominated it. VCU attacks the glass with their HAVOC style and we SHUT THEM DOWN to only 2 offensive rebounds. That won the game for us. We didn't shoot the ball great, but had timely shooting at the end of the first half and beginning of 2nd half and we controlled the tempo. Those are things I think we can do without ANO, but can we control the glass close to what we did last time out - not so sure.

And remember, without ANO, Cline will get more minutes. Expect VCU to attack him on offense because his defense is not very good (and that it is putting it nicely).

We are both terrible rebounding teams, them ranked 271 in rebounding margin, us 331.

We just have to do what we always do against these, guys. Don't turn the ball over and don't let them get out on runs. If we hit shots, we win. And then they can go and find an excuse as to why that happened or what awful thing we did to display our "classlessness"

Just focus on offensive rebounding ur2K. Rebounding margin is misleading in my book because you play an opponent and they shoot poorly - you have more opportunity for rebounds. I am more worried about VCU getting a ton of offensive rebounds, which lead to easy baskets, fouls, and more possessions - all things we can let happen in order to beat VCU.

VCU comes in around 60th with about 12 offensive rebounds per game. UR comes in around 344 with only about 7 per game. I don't expect us to increase our offensive rebounds anytime soon, but sure can limit the opponent.

Trap, we did get 14 offensive rebounds on Saturday, which was pretty stunning. So I'd say we are improving there and could continue it Wednesday.

RE: I don't expect us to increase our offensive rebounds anytime soon, but sure can limit the opponent.

OFF Rebounds in last 5 games

14, 9, 9, 15 , 8 and 6 (that was VCU where we won the rebounding battle over 10)

You're right, it isn't increasing anytime soon, and our OOC schedule is no good this year as well.

Uh, our best player is torching teams and will be the POY. Who were you talking about as our best player? Tre was 50% at best in your win. Weber is great, but never was our best player. Kline better bring it or foul out. If he thinks he's going to take MO, well. we all know how that's going to work out. We'll be working him like a drum all night. 7 deep isn't going to cut it.

I wonder if Mooney has the cajones to do the right thing with the clown throwing the bird on Twitter. Shaka would put any guy on our team on the bench for that regardless of the impact or the outcome of a single game. As a CBB player, you just don't do that stuff, because everyone will pick up on it these days. Not very bright. Guess Mooney has to play him though or it's only 6 deep and it's a blood-bath.

Uh, it's Cline by the way and his MOMMA could take Moe and probably Curly too.

VCU fans saying Shawn'dre should be suspended or sit out when a personal correspondence of his was leaked on the internet is comical. Mooney has shown he has a much higher standard for his players than Shaka, just look at the handling of DWill vs. Weber.

Does the hubris ever end with these guys? Reading this, I almost forgot that we WON less than a month ago by 9 points IN THEIR BUILDING. Now we are in for a "blood bath" on our home court. LOL. Please don't sacrifice us to the basketball gods, Mr. Mudkat! We are but a tiny basketball program! Have mercy on our pitiful souls!

Oh please. Shaka had a chance to show the world how tough of a ship he runs when one of his players was arrested and convicted of theft. He got a measly one game suspension and then got sung the praises by Shaka and company at how glorious he served his one game suspension and is such a great representative of the program. So, you can stop with the Shaka is holier than thou crap, because you aren't fooling anyone over here.

This is why most of us can't stand VCU fans because you think Shaka walks on water even when you have direct evidence that contradicts that he doesn't.

I didn't realize that they had already announced the POY results. Who won the A10 tournament?

This is going to be a very difficult game. I expect RPI to bring their best effort but i also think they'll get our best effort.

As others have mentioned, Melvin Johnson is the dangerous guy. Keeping him in check is a must. I have always like the way Trey Davis has matched up with Graham. Graham will get his points but Trey always makes him work for them.

Probably unfair to Kendall, but I see this game coming down to him. It's not Senior Night but it's the last big home game of his career. Slaying the cross town rival (again) would cement his place among the Great Spiders. I have a feeling that he'll be up the task and more.

VCU will have to make 7 or 8 threes to beat us, and they really haven't shot the ball well from deep overall the past few weeks. I'm not worried about them exploiting Alonzo's absence because they don't have enough guys to do that. JJ has been picking up the slack nicely and gives us a little different look. We shoot better at home, too.

I like our odds.
This is accurate.

MUDKAT the guy who banged the vcu spread last game, then hit it again when it came down. a double loser. but but but...I only hit the smart plays, I only play the games I really like, and when I do I almost always win. That guy. The I'm really a great gambler Internet guy.

^^Great segue.

RPI opens as a 1 point favorite.

Dare I ask if the Kat has an early lean on this one?

So VCU is a 1-point away favorite...big deal! What was the line last time? VCU by 5 or 9, I think? Well, at the least, we can expect a close game and will probably tip to home-court advantage.

To put the SnapChat hubbub to rest, ShawnDre must have a monster game to silence the Lambs. Would be great to get Kendall back to his former self, he always brings his best vs. VCU. I anticipate Terry does work on both ends of the court and maybe, miraculously, TJ will muscle up on defense. Trey, Josh and Deion also must step up and have their best games.

I think there will be a special on brooms Thursday morning...

I'll probably take this pick-em spread action. Lost the other one, but there are always more. I haven't played VCU much this year due to all the changes during the year. The line was playable last time, but I should have taken a hobbled Tre into account. It will be a tough game, but not the same squad that played UR last time. As long is Tre is starting and anywhere close to 90%, I feel comfortable. Will await any news until I take this one. If no bad news, I'm in. Very much looking forward to the war tomorrow night!

BTW-there are going to be a ton of "Savages" there tomorrow. They find a way.

"Hobbled" Graham had nothing to do with your loss last time. Your inability to turn us over for quick points coupled with your mediocre half court offense and defense is why you guys lost. Graham actually had an above average game against us when we played last, but it still wasn't enough for you guys to get a win.

The spread seems to be -1 to -1 1/2 depending on where you get it. COnsidering we were 9+ point dogs the last time I think we've earned the oddsmaker's respect.

COMPARABLE GAME OF THE SEASON FOR RICHMOND[/B]
URI 79 at UofR 74[/I][/B]
The atmosphere will be more challenging then the Rhody [/I]game due to more opposing team fans will be in attendance (but Spider fans will easily out number them). The intensity should be a notch high . VCU has similar players [/I]that pose an equal challenge. Scoring will be crucial for the Spiders. [/I]

Richmond Starters[/B]

· Terry Allen F 12.4ppg / 6.1rpg / 1.4spg
Allen is an athletic , stat stuffing Forward. He's a great free throw shooter that can rebound and block with the best of them.[/I]
URI Game Stats 19pts / 10rb / 2blks / 2 stls (8-12 free throws)
Score (4 out of 5)

Lets hope for ShawnDre's sake that UR wins this game or else he will not hear the end of the whole "snapchap finger" until next season at their place from their fans.

I think the key is going to be Cline tonight. Last time out vs. VCU - Cline only had to play 23 minutes and contributed nothing on the boards, but did hit two big three pointers. With no ANO this time around (played 29 minutes and grabbed 6 boards) we will need Cline to play more along with Josh Jones. My concern would be Cline on defense - since he is clearly our worse defender at this point and with all the switching we do - that will be the mismatch VCU looks to exploit. And rebounding - Cline is not the best rebounder out there and Josh Jones is about the same. BUT - they can knock down 3's - so hopefully they knock down enough outside shots to cancel out the points they might give up on defense/offensive glass.

Three point shooters getting it done. Look for some big points from these two guys !

BTW Cline isnt even the worst rebounder of all the starters .

I think one of keys tonight is Deion Taylor. Obviously, I am expecting not much of anything from him on offense, but with ANO out we will need someone to check Mo-Alle inside and on the offense glass. TJ just does not have the heft or strength to do that. We need Deion to play good solid defense, box out and rebound when he is in there.

There have been some interesting stats since ANO has been out. Yes, it is too small of a sample size but in the 4 games after vs 19 before...

Steals 8.75 after 8.00 before
Turnovers 8.50 after 12.05 before

And

Offensive Rebounds 11.75 after 7.68 before

As for 3 point shooting K0 has been a slump 4-19 21% but
DT 3-7 43%
TJC 11-24 46%
SDJ 9-15 60%

While Kendall's outside shooting has been off, he does have 13 assists in the last 3 games.

Not sure what to make of all that, just hope the positive parts continue.

I, for one, really appreciate Mudcat coming on this board and speaking the truth. He really opened my eyes, I can tell you! For instance, I learned:

1. Treveon Graham has already been declared Player of the Year in the A-10. Who knew?

2. VCU is a much better team without Webber. Boy, I really had this one wrong. I thought that he was pretty good. Some VCU fans said that he was the "heart and soul" of their team. Those VCU fans must be ecstatic that he cannot play!

3. Poor personal judgement by a young man on "snap chat," (who among us even knew what that was!) is far more serious than misdemeanor theft. I never saw that coming.

4. VCU played horrible in the first game (couldn't get up for the cross town rival, perhaps?) and UR played awesome, way above our heads actually. What a fluke that we won! Obviously, that will not happen tonight as VCU will be focused while UR will not have a chance. Might just stay home in that case as I see no way that our poor little Spiders even have a chance.

5. UR fans are ignorant and full of hate, as opposed to the gentle and sensible fans on the VCU board who are full of camraderie and good cheer.

6. UR fans cheered when Webber was hurt in the last game. Several VCU fans claim to have seen this on their board. Interesting, since in all the games that I have seen over the years, I have NEVER seen any group of fans cheer an injury to the other team. NEVER. And that includes when Lindsay was hurt at VCU. I am shocked that UR fans would behave this way but if Mud and his compatriots say that it happened, it surely must have.

Please continue to bring the truth to this board, Mud.

Indeed, Rivercup! Learning so much about that prestigious institution of higher learning.
