Bryce Golden hits the portal

He would be perfect, exactly what they need. He will probably be looking for a guaranteed NCAA bid though
Bryce Golden started at Butler in 2018-19. He never played in an NCAA game. He played in one NIT game.

Had Bryce Golden joined his brother at UR to play for the Moon Dog, he would have played in two NCAA games, and two NIT games.

He should have joined his brother in the first place, and had four times the postseason experience.

I wish he had too.

Bryce hasn’t made the NCAAs yet, have to think he will want to go somewhere that is a guaranteed at-large for his final season.
so VCU?

Meh. Butler sucks. They haven't been to the dance since 2018. That is 4 years people. Why would anyone play for such a crappy program? I can't believe Butler has stuck with their coach for soooo long. The guy is a bum.

I think Bryce and Quinn would be ideal. Three man rotation, Grace can play 4 or 5. Noyes would be able to get PT but this year would get him ready for bigger role the following 3. We have the opportunity to rebuild quickly, with a bunch of good returning players in Goose, Dji, Nelson, and Burton. Let's take advantage this time.

I realize that you are trying to be clever, but, actually your comment is correct. The skill level of their coach is just below mediocre. There is a direct relationship between his appointment and the steady decline of the Butler program. You can look it up if you don't follow the Bulldogs.

In the article they incorrectly say Bryce is from Richmond. A sign of things to come?

I tend to agree though, if he didn’t come to UR while Grant was here, why would he want to come now? Best of luck to him wherever he lands (unless it’s VCU)

I am pretty positive Grant was born in Richmond, I don’t know about Bryce.

Bryce would come into Richmond with a heroes welcome, and be an instant fan favorite almost family. He knows he would play 30 minutes a game. He is familiar with the coach and offense that would run through him at times. Familiarity could be in our favor, or not.

I don’t know if it’s in the rules or not, but if Tyler is staying he should be on the phone begging Bryce to come to UR.

Bryce and Quinn and Burton and Grace would be a better fron line than we had this year I think... I wish us good luck in getting just one of those two much less both.

He had offers from several power conference programs out of high school. He was much more highly recruited than Grant, and chose Butler over schools like Syracuse, Maryland, NC St., Illinois, Texas Tech, etc. I can see why he would want to go somewhere else, and not play in Grant's shadow. It's more rare than common for a younger brother to play where his older brother is playing. I have no idea where he might end up, but I would not rule anything out just because 4 years ago he chose a Big East school over us.

Yeah - I don't see him coming down to UR, but rather moving up to a P5 program with a shot of making tourney.

Can you believe Matt Grace if Golden came to UR? He has got to be thinking - oh no, not again. My one year to play and a Golden brother shows up to take my minutes.

Trying to remember. Did he commit to Pitt before Butler? Penn ST seemed in the mix as well...

Not to mention, a long history of strong message board support of both the coach and his older brother... 😉

Agreed, I’m not ruling it out. Would love to have him. But think it could still be seen as being in Grant’s shadow. Will be interesting to see if we go after him/how hard

Hopefully he comes despite the negative comments from the many self centered people on this board. Brice comes from a wonderful family and 2 things we have going for us are our large fan support at games and the great culture the coaching staff has created for the basketball program. We would be a very good fit for him.

I would much rather have you attack me than our basketball program, although it is kind of like talking to the hand. The worst variation is all the negative posters that don't bother to donate to Grant's roommate Gilly's favorite charity.
Once again with a weird post like you speak for the basketball program. I don’t need you to help choose my charities; great idea but save the self righteousness.

Wow. Did I just read that? I had to read it twice to think someone would actually post something like that. Are you some kind of martyr serving yourself up for Queally & Mooney?

You should go read the Butler board sometime, ours is no more negative than theirs (or any board where the team hadn’t made the tournament in a decade).

With that said, I think Bryce will have a plethora of options to choose from. I hope we are one of them, feels like we are just as good as any if he wants PT in a role featuring a skilled big.

Bryce Golden would have to beat out Grace. I don't think he could.
I like how Matt has progressed but I think this is incorrect thinking for two reasons. 1) we need help at both the 4/5 spots and both of these guys can play at either spot. 2) BG was a starter on a Big East team where MG was a backup on an A10 team.

I see no guarantee Matt comes back much less has a lock on a starting spot if competition arrives.
