We know Mooney is an old-school guy and definitely is not happy with the existing regulations with NIL/the portal. We've heard him express frustration with the lack of governance, open transfer market, and the struggle for a small school to compete against bigger/richer schools. Yes, he's had relative success in the last few years, but just as great as last year was, it's clear that the floor can be just as low if we don't land the right guys from the portal. If we have another year of mass roster turnover, miss on key guys in the portal and struggle again next year, I could really see him considering if this environment is still for him. Not to mention the health issue and everything he experienced through that.

1.5 million per year with no expectation is tough to turn down. I don't see him voluntarily giving that up. He is not Tony Bennett, either as a coach or as a person and I'll leave it that.
Perfect job. How many of us have that kind of opportunity with significant pay, mediocre long term performance, ongoing extensions, and minimal pressure.? We should all be so lucky.

I don't see him considering leaving until his son has passed through college. Think he is a frosh right now - so you got 8 more years, if not more because likely by the time his son hits college - there will be no limit on years of eligibility. Want to play 8 years in college and not go play in Europe or G-League - go right ahead.

A tiny little turd just rolled down my pants leg.

Trap is a demotivational speaker in his real job. Morale too good at work today, let's bring in Trap. Unfortunately I think his version of Spider hoops is more close to the truth than most want to consider. I really thought he was going to go to the fact that when the first son finishes the second one will be starting. At this rate the second one can keep playing until the second one's son is ready.

Not a great scenario for us. Plz say “no”.

Look - UR is never going to get rid of Mooney. And honestly - he is never going to put them in a position to consider it. UR was there a few years ago. We were 6 years removed from our back to back NCAA appearances, which did include 2 NIT appearances. Our average finish in the A10 in that span was middle pack - 6-7th place, and then we have two bad losing seasons - going 12-20, and 13-20 in back to back years. If there was a time to remove a coach, any coach - it would have been then. Instead - UR stuck with Mooney, COVID hits, and the rest is history. Once NCAA with a win, and NIT since then, including A10 regular season title. But now looking at 10-12 win season overall. He will find a way to get a team back to .500 and win just enough where the school will not want to fire him and pay him his contract, and they will not just let his deal run out. I also wouldn't be shocked if we enter the Patriot league in the next few years and that results in more wins, etc.

Just don't see it happening, unless Mooney has some sort of NCAA scandal - which is not how he operates.

In 2022, Chris Mooney, the head coach of the University of Richmond men's basketball team, earned $2.68 million in total compensation. This included his salary and other compensation from the university. Mooney was the highest paid employee at the university that year.
