Behind the Web

No A10 pre tournament press conf? Yes I'll watch those, but I draw the line at the world of beer radio show.

JOC had a bunch of quotes but he's not getting those from some 1 on 1 interview during season. Probably from the presser but we are too embarrassed to post it maybe.

This should not be a mom & pop operation.

They are not going to fire the winningest coach in school history after a 20-win season. I'll bet a pound of crow on it.

If Mooney made the decision himself, that is a different story. But, there is no indication that he is retiring on his own accord.
Where does one acquire a pound of crow, asking for a friend.

After listening to the show from yesterday, Gilyard seemed ready for all of this to come to an end. No fire whatsoever, and had a sarcastic tone with little interest in being on the show and answering questions 😡 Golden same demeanor as usual. Probably will get blasted for saying this but Mooney was still upbeat and ready for war! Said all the right things that we need to do to win. Win 4 games and I am back, anything less means kick him out the door!
Being a longtime spider supporter, I will take that glimmer of hope and root the team on.🕷🕸🏀

I'd like to commend Grant for the way he has handled himself and played as the season has wound down. He's spent a lot less time complaining about the officiating and has kept his head down and kept playing. I thought the Dayton game last week was one of the best in his career here with 15/10 and making plays in the paint, as opposed to jacking 3's. His diligence showed in his answers during interview on Monday night.

Conversely, i would agree with the comments above that it sounds like Jacob just sounds tired and perhaps defeated. Then again, maybe he's just sick of listening to Philly Bob's long-winded questions, which would be understandable.

Philly Bob and Moon spending a healthy portion of the first segment discussing an officiating call in the Dayton game played 6 days earlier was so ... on brand.

I thought it was interesting with Gilly talking about Zay and Nelson. Basically saying he
was trying to help Zay get through the slump which has been somewhat extended.

Didn't listen to the whole show but the part I did was cartoonish bad. Here we are on the cusp of the A-10 tourney and Bob is asking questions about dishing hot gossip out on their roommate situation. Fricking embarrassing. Bob will literally do anything to avoid bringing up anything that would be remotely uncomfortable for Mooney or anyone in the program to have to respond to.

Bob is part of the institutional stale air that is our program.

on the cusp of the A10 tourney in a season that had some of the highest expectations going into it in school history and Bob always brings the pointless, mindless softballs

It really is bad. And Bob has his own sports radio show, so it's not like he doesn't know how to create meaningful content that people would want to listen to. He chooses not to create it for the coaches show.

The coaches show is a promotional thing and he's hosting in his role as an AD administrator...of course there aren't going to be tough questions.

How about interesting questions then? And would it be too tough to ask senior leaders how they feel about the season and how it has played out and giving them a chance to express what I am sure is disappointment. I've listened to Rhoades show, it actually a good listen.

For sure.

I'm not going to argue it's a good show...I gave up on it a long time ago when I realized nothing useful or interesting was ever going to come out of it. I'm just not surprised that there aren't any critical observations or questions in it.

Took them two days, but they finally posted it:

2 days later...like I said mom & pop operation

BUT...I'm taking personal responsibility for the ADIDAS shirt! They read the boards we know that.

Asked about his assessment of season...ducked & weaved and said "we've put ourselves in position to do well in A10 tourney"

Also the "the Martin twins"...lol are these 2 new set of twins that just became eligible. Hate to face both the Martins and Mitchells at once.

Pretty much. They competed well enough to be eligible for the conference tournament, in which every team is eligible for.

And putting yourself in position to do well in the A-10 tourney is finishing Top 4 and getting a bye. Man, he can fluff out some bullshit.
When you have been at it for as long as Teflon Moonie has it's like breathing, totally automatic.

Just heard the newest excuse for our basketball shortcomings. Bob black and matt Joseph’s are on air from the a10 tournament and were talking about bubble teams. Matt Joseph’s mentioned several senior laden teams that have been massive disappointments this year and said UR was one of them. Bob responded with “well seniors are really only supposed to play for 4 years, so if the go beyond that they just check out.” Guess that’s the view of our athletic department. Clock has already been reset it seems.

Bob, how long are announcers supposed to play before they check out? Just wondering.

Bob’s radio show is a part time gig where he can let loose on most things. Everything except being critical about his employer.

Seriously (OP I am not doubting your account, just the sentiment you reported):

Bob responded with “well seniors are really only supposed to play for 4 years, so if the go beyond that they just check out.”

Why come back if you're going to "check out"? And what about everyone who comes back for a regular "fifth year" due to injury, red-shirt, transfer when you had to sit out a year?

That's inane...

Anyone going to listen to the 3-way at 6:00 tonight? Black, Hardt, and Mooney

Mooney bitching about how hard it is to get in the NCAA tournament. Wants us to know it’s worth $15,000,000.00
