Asylum Seekers are Welcome Here. Just post "I am Done".

I am done.

Even in our down years I’ve been proud of our program. But last year and the beginning (and trajectory) of this year are enough for me.

I’ll continue to root for our kids, but they’re clearly not being put in the best situation to win. We have too much raw talent to lose handidly to Wyoming and Hampton.

Blow the whole thing up. Realistically, when Mooney is fired after the season, we will most likely lose Gilyard and Golden and maybe Sherod. Other players who show promise such as Sal, Woj and Cayo may leave too, in addition to our supposedly strong recruiting class decommitting. This will may set us back and leave our program as barren as its ever been, but it is worth it. We literally cannot go any lower than we are right now.

Think a new coach can make something of the pieces here - there’s some talent on the roster but really terrible leadership/coaching

Dogg, don't treat the players like idiots. This happens all the time. Usually, if a competent AD is in place, and hires a better coach (I'm praying that this is the case, but have low confidence) the new coach can come in and keep the top players. There may be a few of those guys he doesn't want.

I've been done a long time but always been against in season firings. But this season following last year's debacle is making me reconsider that policy.

Agree 23. A bunch of players won't leave. Most don't want to have to sit out a year.

What should be done eventually should be done immediately. The “eventuality” realization for me was 3 seasons ago. I’m afraid the hole we’ve dug is especially deep because of the milquetoast attitude of our athletic department and, unfortunately, many of our fans.

DONE with this mediocre garbage since 2015-16 season. If this athletic Dept wants to mimmick the Flying Squirrels then they can do it with somebody else in the seats.

I've been done a long time but always been against in season firings. But this season following last year's debacle is making me reconsider that policy.

I posted this last night right after the game and wanted to clarify/expand a little on it.

In general, I've always been a Chris Mooney fan. I think for the most part he has conducted himself well and represented the University professionally, most of his former players love and speak highly of him, he had a nice run of success and until recently has never really had a poorly performing program (except for his first couple of years with a bare cupboard).

I think for years his offensive and defensive strategies were smart fits for our program and personnel. I think he has shown he can largely recruit high level talent that is usually under the radar.

For these reasons and because we aren't the type of school to cut a coach mid-season short of some off court issue I've been in the camp of letting things play themselves out.

But I can't take this position any more. The time has come for this thing to end.

I watched a game last night where the coach was willing to ride his failing strategies to the bitter end and not make changes. I watched a game where the players played scared, tired, disinterested, confused, and overmatched by a team no Richmond team should ever lose to, much less get blown away by. I watched a team that knows it has no chance to win games unless the sun, moon and stars all align. I watched a team that made the same mistakes it made last week, last month and last year. I watched a program continue to fade into oblivion. I watched a coach let his team get down by 10 to a MEAC/Big South opponent on its home floor 4 minutes into the game and make ZERO personnel or strategy changes after the timeout.

It's been coming for a long time and I've been very patient and given it every opportunity to work out. But he's lost much of the fan base support and I worry he's lost much of the player's support. And when that happens I don't think it's wise to let it drag on to the end of the season.

It's been referenced many times before on this board; mooney has been a different coach since the Charlotte game. Somehow, someway, he became a different person (at least publicly) after that end of that game. Subdued, lethargic, disinterested, no passion....

If he could somehow become the old moondog he was prior to that game, I would reconsider my stance.

I'm sure he is very frustrated. Bob keeps talking about how hard everyone is trying and working and practicing. Yet the results keep getting worse. That seems to make it even more clear that the time has come for a change.

Agree. I believe he is frustrated and wants to win, no question. However, he is not capable. We are at the brink of losing our diehard fans and falling all the way down the mountain. The longer we wait, the harder it will be to climb back up. Do something now, Hardt. It is never fun to fire someone, but it must be done.

Was listening to sports radio the other day, and Mike Florio was on talking about the Cowboys. He observed that you could tell within one quarter whether Dallas was going to win the game, because their plan is their plan is their plan, and it either works or doesn't. He said you can't even call it "Plan A" because that presupposes there is a "Plan B". It is just "Plan". That's what we have. We have "Plan". "Plan" no longer holds up, either during the course of a season or during the course of a game.

Well, if someone's reading, I was on the fence this year about renewing my season tickets. $600+ is not an insignificant sum to me. I went ahead and renewed. Now I regret it.

Is it possible to get a refund?
You and me both. All us season ticket holders who are suffering through BB games after those horrible home FB games certainly should get a discount on both season tickets next year. Think only form of protest Hardt and others respond to is loss of $. Not like it's hard to get a cheap seat at any of the games now.

This. I've said many times on here that's the only way you're going to get their attention. Stop giving them money -- in any capacity until a change is made. People bitch and moan yet show up every night, clap and cheer, head over to the concessions and spend $15, then go over to the beer stand for another $15, and at halftime stroll by the souvenir shop.

Run into a colleague from time to time that has 4 hoops seats. All last season he whined and moaned, raged about the staff, program is a disaster, yackity yack. What does he do? Pulls out the checkbook when the Ticket Office calls about renewal. "Sure, i'll take my 4 again this year." And what does the ADept and Ticket Office think? "Well, he just bought 4 seats again so he must not be that dissatisfied."

Not that they'll do it, but relieving Mooney of his duties during the season will do more good than you think.

I hear you 10, I don't live in the area, but guys I converse with on this board have not renewed, you can buy $5 tickets for kids and stubhub has ticks for pennies on the dollar, and our big ACC game is being offered as a BOGO.

The lack of sales is real I believe. What you are missing is the elephant in the room - this is peanuts compared to Queally's pocket book.

Wake is a kids club game, so no charge for an ACC game for children. They are literally just filling seats at this point.

amazing how often we talk down about PQ while we prepare to construct his practice facility, which is one of the only bright spots in hoops in a while.

and while many of you think UR can just write a check to start the replacement coach process, it's likely we'll need a guy like this to write that check for us.
