Over the last couple of days, there have been a few cracks at ulla. ulla has been notably silent since Friday night. I would just like to say that ulla is a good Spider fan and i am sure the he probably knows what we all know but he just tries to put a good spin on things. I would just like to offer ulla (and spiderman and a few others) some cover with this thread.

(FWIW, there is one mercenary poster that is not granted immunity, although he will leave at some point and then, predicably, come back and snipe at our new coach like he does on the Hokies board with Buzz Williams.)

In my mind, ulla is welcome to post "i am done" on this thread and he gets full immunity from me and i hope others will do the same. Others "truthers" too. It's going to be a long winter. I would suggest getting it out of the way on the sooner end.

Candily, i was in ulla's camp until the Delaware game last year and then i was "done". For me, Mooney could take us to the Final 4 this year and i would not forgive that Delaware debacle.

When was everyone else "done"? Might make for an interesting thread.

Lastly, a quick nod to fatherspider. I am pretty sure he was the first person that was "done".

I have not been to a Spiders basketball game since the Delaware game. I have no intentions of coming back until Mooney is gone. Next year, 2020, who knows. Maybe never, tomorrow is not promised.

I was done when last year’s OOC went sideways. I’m not nearly as vociferous as the fmm but I don’t see that even a great season inspires confidence rather than folks just feeling we got lucky.

I’m very curious to see what comes if we can’t pull it together ASAP.

Same. Starting December at 2-5 looks to be the most likely scenario to me, with us finding a way to win 2 of the STFU, IUPUI and Hampton games.

I have us somewhere around 4-9 OOC after seeing Friday night. And look how the conference slate starts.

I was pretty much done with Mooney after the 2014-15 season. After beating VCU twice in the regular season we once again lose to them in the A10 tournament. That loss ended up keeping us out of the NCAA tournament, even though I was surprised we were even in consideration. Then in ultimate Mooney fashion we blow a huge lead in the NIT quarterfinals. That team wasn't deep but had a lot of talent in the starting 5(well at least 4 of the 5) and unserachieved. And then we head into the next season returning TJ, Allen, and SDJ and lose to JMU to open the season. I had definitely seen enough of Mooney at that point. And it keeps getting worse and worse.

I am done and have been done with Mooney.

Been done for some time. I would love to know when I changed my avatar to what it is now, b/c the bag over the head is how I have felt about out basketball program for some time.

I suspected something was seriously amiss when I took my kid to the Minnesota game, we led 59-55 with 7:25 left, then didn't score again while the Gophers closed out the game on a 19-0 run to win 74-59.

I was done after the NIT quarterfinal against Miami, like URWilk. I literally had a front row seat to witness Mooney coach his way right out of a sure trip to the Big Apple.

I was done when we lost to Northeastern at home. Also the loss at the buzzer against Bucknell also at home.

I was "officially" done the TD, DT, TA senior year. That was the year that we were building to as a senior laden team to make a run and they came out and laid a big fat egg. Mooney rode TD and DT all year despite consistent diminishing returns from both of those players, never making any adjustments.

I'm losing track of my years, but the other huge big flashing sign to me was the recruiting class of Diekvoss, Smithen, Kovien and Khwan. Obviously, Khwan turned out good but the other 3, you knew the moment we signed them that we're huge reaches. Diekvoss in particular was our first signee that year and we signed him when he had one other offer, Northern Kentucky, which was transition to D-1 that year. Kovien was not anywhere near a D-1 player at any level and we signed him.

Mooney just can't recruit. He couldn't recruit coming off back to back NCAA's and now he is screwed because not only can't he recruit, but the program is mired in losing and no good recruit is going to come here.

The fruits of his inability to recruit have been visible for years now, as we really only had 5-6 A-10 level players each year and then 7-8 players on our bench who were just not A-10 caliber, some of them not even D-1 caliber players. There are too many to count at this point, too many to name. It came to full bear on Wednesday when you saw our talent on par with a Big South basement dwelling Longwood team.

97's post reminds me, after our sweet 16 run, CM resigned to a nice contract and the staff, as they should, really went after some upper, solid recruits and although came somewhat close, did not sign one of them. it seems that recruiting season was the beginning of less than stellar classes. we all know that we have to have players to compete no matter the Xs and Os

Spinner, this is a good question.

Terry Henderson, AWIII, and Marshall Wood were the guys I think we really wanted. I could re-play the Andrew White saga, but despite all the time I waste on this board, I don't have three more years to re-hash. Henderson went to State, where he was mostly in trouble - and Wood came back, after he decided he wasn't going to play hoops anymore.
We did get Terry Allen, who was a big time talent I thought. DT was looking to be a top level A10 talent pre back surgery. But it did feel we struck out on our top targets, and maybe spent too much time on them.

Watching us scrape out a win at home in OT to Hofstra in 2013 was when I was done.

I first came on here 6 years ago and, I believe, was one of the first to start criticizing CM openly. Never changig D and terrible rebounding were my first big peeves. I consumed the wrath of all but kept at it since I saw he was a one trick pony and once his scheme was known we would be cooked.

I’ve been done for a few years and will admit I’m really starting to get very pissed at the guys that keep calling to ask me to buy some sort of ticket package. I’ve refused for the same reason for the past 4 years...I’m not going to buy until Mooney is gone. Yes, I still donate to the Spider Club and buy football season tickets, basketball is my protest. Although clearly no one cares. They can’t even put me down on the “do not call” list. Make some changes. Then call me.

I will continue to take my kids to a few games a year. Watch them lose. I’ll admit, it definitely has been a helpful way to teach the “your team doesn’t always win” and “just because they lose doesn’t mean you can’t still have it be your favorite team” items. We don’t live in Cleveland - it shouldn’t be this hard.

Apologies Mo for the rant here - realize a simple “I’m done” would have worked.

DT, the rant is appreciated. I'm sure someone over at the RC reads these posts and folks to need to continue to hear the level of dissatisfaction of so many in our fan base and alumni. We are not New York or Philly, where there is going to be a lot of booing or worse at games. Most of our fan base is pretty genteel. Hardt, Hale, Crutcher and the other leaders here should not interpret that as a sign that people are not pissed off. I don't think any of them have their head in the sand at this point, they know.

Mooney has his rapidly diminishing base of supporters, some of which hold considerable purse strings. There are far more of us though, who want change and want our basketball program back to competing for NCAA bids and A-10 championships. We need to make sure they hear us over and over again.

I knew Mooney wasn't what I wanted for the the Spiders the first time that I watched him (in-person) coach a game. It was painfully obvious that his game management and player management skills were not up to par. We didn't know about his recruiting problem in that first year, but all of his other coaching deficiencies were the same on day 1 as they are today. Those who were sitting near me in Section 6 (couple of whom read this forum) know that I was pointing this out in his first season.

We hoped that he would get better. But, even during the run with Anderson and teammates, Mooney was still making poor decisions. The players happened to be good enough to overcome his mediocrity, which masked the problem.

The years that followed have been outrageously mismanaged. More than one of those teams SHOULD have been playing in the NCAA tournament. There was enough (not an over abundance) but enough talent. Cedrick Lindsey, Kendal Anthony, Terry Allen, T.J. Cline, and Shawndre Jones (and probably others that I forget), all played on teams that COULD have made the tournament with better coaching.

I have been attending UR basketball games since 1982. Like many others (and for the first time in 20-years) I did not purchase season tickets this year. When UR called and inquired if I wanted to buy tickets, I told them straight out that I would not purchase another ticket until the basketball program improved. The young female representative asked what they could do to improve my experience, and I told her that they needed to hire a new coach. Her response was "we've heard that from quite a few." :(

I've posted this at various points over the last couple years -- I am ready for a change. I was scared to do it when Buck, Sherod, and Golden were freshman because I thought they were a real good nucleus and didn't want them to leave. But I think at this point it has to be transfers be damned. We need new direction, new energy, new voice.

I will, however, continue to defend against the "every single thing that happens is Mooney's fault" and "Mooney is the worst coach" type of stuff. He did win 200 games, which is nothing to sneeze at, and there are a lot of coaches who have done much, much worse. Bill Dooley comes to mind.

But yes, change is overdue.

Well, if someone's reading, I was on the fence this year about renewing my season tickets. $600+ is not an insignificant sum to me. I went ahead and renewed. Now I regret it.

Is it possible to get a refund?

Ha, I literally sat on my decision to renew for several months this year, back and forth, whether I was going to do it. Eventually, I did, but only renewed 1 ticket for myself, instead of my usual 2. I don't regret it, this winter is going to be very interesting. Not from a typical fan perspective but I am really curious what the atmosphere is going to be like come mid January if we are like 7-14 or something like that.

I get five tickets every year, knowing that some will get wasted. After Friday's performance, I'm really hoping that I don't end up becoming totally disinterested. I've never been that way as a fan but it's like a Bataan death march sometimes to stick it out at these games.

Will be very interesting to gauge any atmosphere change though as you mention 97. It didn't last year, or if it did, I didn't notice it.

Let me start by saying this is NOT a political post and please do not respond to it as if it is. But I was reading an article in this morning's Washington Post that sort of summed up my feelings about Spider basketball.

Michael Steele, former GOP chair, was asked why he remains a Republican when many others have quit in disgust. His response:

“You invite me over to a nice dinner and I come to your home. And during the course of that evening, I start breaking your china. I start slicing your drapes, tearing up your carpet, putting holes in your walls. So at that point, do you leave or do you kick my ass out? You’re going to kick me out. That’s where I am. I’m not leaving. This is my house. I know I gotta repair the drapes and patch up the holes in the walls and replace the carpet. But your ass will be gone and that’s the goal.”

I've been a Spider basketball fan since 1972. Spider basketball is "my house." I've seen everything from a 4-22 season to a Sweet Sixteen. And through it all I've missed, on average, less than one game per season. I'm not leaving "my house" until I'm evicted.

Coaches and ADs have come and gone. Some left on their own accord and others were kicked out. Some have screwed up my house and others have been the Property Brothers. Some have been a bit of both. I didn't invite any of them to my house and I don't get to kick them out. But it's still my house.

I understand how others feel. If you feel like not renewing season tickets or not attending is the right thing for you to do, have at it. I'm going to stay my course. I'll revel in our successes and die a little bit with each loss. But I'm not leaving my house.

I am more done. Still bought bball tickets this year out of loyalty, although fewer, but 0 next year if Mooney returns. Games are just not entertaining and coaching is a joke to watch.

Don't even start with me, Ulla. We get it. You love Mooney. But do not question my fanaticism for Spider sports. I've spent the last 20+ years of my life making it a priority, just like you and most of the rest of us here. I don't need belittling from you.

Outstanding! You will surely be missed among your colleagues in the rafters.
This crap right here needs to be called out. Just like Conor Smith calling out some fans on instagram for not being well heeled enough to sit down though, where the "real fans" sit. I love how the supporters of Mooney are now actively telling other fans, alumni, season tickets holders to just leave. It is classless and it is a dead end strategy because if people really followed this advice, our games would consist of the first 5-6 rows of people sitting behind the bench.

Yea. Not a good strategy. My goal with this thread was truly to provide some cover for the last of the Mooney survivors. Dont do whatever youre not supposed to do with a gift horse here.
