Assistant Coaches

It hasn't been easy and it won't be easy going forward but maybe we can recover and keep this great program we have rolling. I'll keep a positive attitude and hopefull Huesman changes my mind at about this time next year. We have plenty of talent and hopefully we can keep it all going into next year. I think we can all agree that it is kind of scary that we may have another monster on the rise in UD with the way that jmu is already dominating the league. The only reason I doubt Huesman is because I don't think the SoCon is a very good league and to be honest he didn't do too much in the playoffs once he got there. I really hope he proves me wrong.

The thing is you aren't being positive. You are asking antagonizing questions while name calling our AD with no evidence and calling out posters who are correct that Rocco left in a classless manner. Some of these posters are going to keep carving you up if you keep posting that way.

UD is currently a has been and Rocco should have them rise up. They literally remind me of the Michigan of FCS but Rocco is no Harbaugh. I do agree they will be better but I am not so sure he will have them up to speed as quickly as he did here. I expect a losing season this year unless he can load up on transfers.

I can take that argument about the SoCon and say the same thing. Big South was a far worse conference when Rocco was in it and didn't even have an auto bid for some years. The SoCon is weaker after GASO and APPST but still serviceable for FCS. UTC has far, far less resources then Liberty did when Rocco was there.

I say I welcome the competition. I like it when our charter members and traditional rivals do well. Cant stand these Albany and Stony Brook games. Give me strong NOVA, JMU, WM, Delaware anyday over that, makes the games great. Those games 07-09 between all those programs were savage. UD needs Rocco way more then we need him

I agree 07 to 09 when UR, WM, Nova, jmu, UD were all top 10 programs was awesome. Those games had a title game type of atmosphere and it would be cool to bring that back as long as we are in the mix. I think UD will go at least 6 and 5 this year and have a chance at the playoffs. From what I have seen of them they have a very good O-line and running game and a solid defense. They were one of the youngest teams in the nation this year and they will improve even more dramatically if they can find a QB (hopefully Lauletta doesn't go up there). We will be good too if Huesman keeps it together and the players buy into what he is selling. That is what will really determine how this situation goes. The players loved Rocco and were very upset when he left, I have some buddies on the team to back me up on that. If they buy into Huesman then we could see us be next years version of what jmu is now which would be awesome. Hopefully they will buy into the new staff.

I remain, for reasons that I cannot share publicly, firmly in the Rocco camp as it concerns his leaving UR. I really don't want to rehash the recent past, those bones have been picked over too much already. Having said that, you will find no one pulling harder for Huesman and his staff to succeed than me. The reality is he is our coach. By all accounts he is outstanding, the staff he has assembled is very strong and I plan on being in Delaware next year to watch us kick the Blue Hen's a**. Time to look ahead and fully support the new staff and the returning players. I am excited for this new chapter in UR football and can't wait until next fall. Go Spiders!

Probably a better way of stating how I have been feeling this past month. I am now fully on board with Huesman and I have my doubts but I will support him and his staff and the players. Our guys should be pissed about seeing jmu hold the trophy after how we should've beaten them. We know where we need to improve and that is on defense. Huesman will improve our defense and take it back to a championship level unit. I'm fired up, players should be fired up, we all should be fired up. Let's go shove it up everybody's nose next year and raise the trophy in Frisco. We will win it all next year, y'all heard it here first.

Just hope Coach Huesman can come in and coach as "seamlessly" as JMU's new hire this season. Winning a national championship in your first season as HC is quite an accomplishment, even if we love to hate JMU on this board. If coach H can come in and perform anything like coach Houston, then we got ourselves a GREAT hire.

Stop calling Rocco classless. We all know why he left and it was because of a real s***head of an AD. He wanted to stay and our AD didn't want to keep him.
You should put that on your coaching job application. Also, tell Huesman he's "no Rocco" during the interview.

For a kiddie that goes to VT he sure has a lot to say on this board. Have plenty of friends who went elsewhere and I have no interest in their message boards. Sorry FRS.

If we "should've beaten [JMU]" is it Rocco's fault we didn't?
No we should've beaten them but because of injuries and failure to get pressure on schor we didn't win. Maybe the worst defensive performance I have seen by UR since I've been watching them.

Don't like or agree with most the stuff VT says...but wish others wouldn't be so condescending to fellow Spider fans just because they didn't go/graduate regardless their affiliation or share their opinion. Kind of hard to expand the fan base when we behave that way towards each other. Call em out on their flawed logic because there is plenty of it to go around if you ask me, not because they dont/didnt attend here.

I root for multiple schools that I have affiliations with. UR, VT, UGA, Mich State, WMU.....Ferrum lol the list goes on. Mainly because of my connections throughout my family. You don't have to go to the school to love the program.

I go back and forth on whether or not VT is a troll or not. I believe that is the ultimate goal of an internet troll. So, congrats?

with the verified history he has provided I don't believe he is a troll -- I believe he is who he says he is

It's one thing to root for multiple schools. It's another to openly switch allegiances when a coach leaves. There are so many "wes" it's hard to keep track.

Trolls exist to just inflame, don't think that's his goal. Just does a sub par job backing up his arguments(He's certainly not the only one on this board).

Believe I have met the fellow if he's in section 15 at hoops games occasionally? If that's the kid I'm thinking about he's no troll and both he and his dad are a great supporter of Spider athletics. I've sat through a couple of his dads recruiting workshops coaching.

I don't agree with him and he could use some better debating points, but I won't belittle his affiliation with us. Way to small a Spider base to do that. He never went here and is a fan and has been all his life. To me that says more then someone who roots for the school only because they attended it. Any support is good support.

Several reasons to support a program, and I welcome his support. Just needs to work on supporting his misguided opinions better.

Did he do that or was it just incessant belly aching? Most people are guilty of that at least once on here. All I see is that he's a VT fan and UR fan pretty common if you ask me. If he bought a Delaware or JMU shirt then shame on me and I take back everything I said.

I've seen so many veiled attempts over the years on here at people saying they're switching teams, selling season tickets etc, it's hard to take it serious here, because more often then not, we always come back.

It's like a drug....we keep chasing the dragon

Yep, just tighten up your arguments, VT. I would say that most of us were once like you at some point!

As far as allegiances go, I HATED Notre Dame growing up. Then I got a degree there. My allegiances have changed, suffice it to say.

I can assure all of you that I'm not a troll. I love UR football and have been going to games just about every weekend from the time I was six until I went away to school. I've seen really high and I've seen super low since I've been watching Spider football. A lot has happened in 13 years that I've been watching. I think some of y'all think I'm a troll because I have differing opinions from some of you and I'm also more fiery and up front about how I feel about it. I rubbed a lot of y'all the wrong way after the jmu and over this coaching change bulls***. My opinions are mine and I will continue to support Spider football. My doubts remain the same about Huesman but I think this team is so talented that it may not matter who the Head Coach is (kind of like 2008). Let's go win it all next year!

That has nothing to do with it.
My kids may (probably) not go to UR, though one wants to and has the chops academically and possibly athletically. They are avid Spider fans and will stay that way.
If they posted any of this crap I'd be embarrassed. I know Mike Henderson would. Now it's spreading to other teams' boards.

I am taking whampas' advice and clicking the ignore button for the first time.

Believe it or not I think we'd get along pretty well. What year did you graduate from UR?

My response was to someone who questioned his affiliation with the school in an earlier post so can't help but think it could be regarding that statement specifically. Personally I'd be embarassed if someone I was related to and behaved that way we'd have a talking.

Think Ignore may be the best option..My line is simple for the ignore feature...trash our players who bust their ass entertaining us and you've lost my respect and curiousity of your beliefs.

Full disclosure do not agree with anything VT said and think he is wrong on most, if not all of his taking points. Even FRS has made better points in the past. (I'm feel sick saying that). Just don't appreciate people going after affiliations.

I've seen worse things said about our coaches and players on here, by grown men.

We do sit in section 14/15 for basketball games. My dad does recruiting seminars I wasn't aware? My dad is former Spider Reciever Brian Shields class of 87.

Few reports from the past week saying Durden has been interviewing for Tennessee OC.

FYI, @MarcBacote of the Hampton Pirates staff now has a Richmond Spiders logo on his Twitter page.

We don't need people coming from the MEAC to our staff. Hopefully he is a good coach. What role on the staff is he filling?

This is, at least, the 3rd time you've come across as a racist in the last 6 weeks.
I can assure you that I am not. I don't think the MEAC is a real D1 football league because they have shown that they can't beat high level fcs programs like us. It is almost D2. There are some great coaches and people who have came out of HBCU schools; Jerry Rice, Eddie Robinson, and others. Don't know anything about this guy hopefully he is good at what he does. What position does he coach?

I welcome Marc aboard. I have been told some of the process Russ has used in hiring his staff, very thorough. I was impressed.

Our new QB coach should be a real asset to the staff and should bring some excitement to the boards.
Red...do you have to tease us like this?...naw, it couldn't be, or could it?...Eric Ward? that would get a lot of Spiders fans excited...we can hope...

Go Spiders!

Healy isn't giving up a head coaching job to be a QB coach at Richmond.
