1934-1935: Undefeated? (20-0)
Can’t remember if there is a banner…

Definitely been different eras of basketball. But I would say our first 69 seasons are different than our last 44.

In the last 44:
Below .400 on Selection Sunday
4 Mooney
2 Dooley

.400 to .500
4 Mooney
2 Dooley
1 Tarrant
1 Wainwright

.501 to .600
6 Mooney (2 NIT)
2 Tarrant
2 Beilein
1 Wainwright (1 NIT)

Not sure what to do with 2001-2002 Beilein .594 but 3 NIT Wins

>.600

9 Tarrant (5 NCAA 4 NIT) in 12 seasons
6 Mooney (3 NCAA 2 NIT and 2020) in 20 seasons
2 Beilein (1 NCAA 1 NIT) in 5 seasons
1 Wainwright (1 NCAA) in 3 seasons

Found one more interesting case, Lewis Mills coached 1969-70 to 1972-73 with a record of
30-74 never having double digit wins and coached one more season.1973-74 16-12…

Coach Tarrant’s had as many +.700 seasons as Mooney in half the time. Beilein had 2 in less than half the time.
Again taking record on selection Sunday, seasons >.689 are
Tarrant 7 .583 of his seasons
Beilein 2 .400 of his seasons
Mooney 4 .200 of his seasons

25-26 - Building year with Super Freshman Class added to 2 study Red Shirts.
26-27 - Just need a smidge of improvement with all the guys showing they are at least able to play at this level and some break out game here and there.
27-28 - Need to win some games or else. But moon may have already been extended at this point.
Welcome Spiders Comfort INC. AKA basketball purgatory.

Thank God this nightmare is over. This was the least enjoyable, most forgettable season of my 10 years following the program.

This offseason/portal cycle is pivotal for the future of this program. Can't have another year like this.
Do we have any positions open to bring in via portal?

I know many on here have said we will have defections. However, some guys likely find the comfortable environment very suitable than going out in the hard cruel world of D1 hoops. Others (GW3) have been devalued so greatly by sitting on the bench all year, may not find a landing spot to liking.

We may be stuck with this roster.

As of now, we have 15 players eligible for next season, which means we don't have any spots open. That includes walk-ons though, and it remains to be seen how we'll handle those guys now that they take up spots on our 15-roster limit and aren't just extra bodies.

Also, I'll be shocked if we don't have at least 2-3 guys transfer out. Especially after a tumultuous season like this.

partly depends on the plan with the walkons.

Are we stuck with the coach?

Can I get a list of who is ineligible to return? Then a list of Walkons & HS Seniors?

Frosh: Argabright, Harper, Richardson
R-Frosh: McGlothin, Mooney (walk-on), Robinson
R-Soph: Soulis
Junior: Graham (walk-on?), Tanner, Tyne, Washington
Senior: Beagle, Roumoglou, Walz
R-Senior: Weaver (walk-on)

Departing: Hunt, Neskovic, White, D'Entremont, Roche

Weaver may elect (or be encouraged) to move on given he's been here four years and we may want to get another scholarship player in that slot. Or maybe we don't.

So about 6 players we haven’t seen play for the spiders yet?

imagine if we really have $3M in NIL to pay out next year? or even $2M?
do we really give huge raises to the returning players that just won 8 D1 games?
I would think the coaches meet with all of the players after the season is over. I know it's Mooney and all, but he may not want some of them back next year.

Hopefully not. Moon has to have some hard conversations. Or maybe this makes it easier for him. Yep, sorry all I can get you is 20K. You are free to go to Broad Street Nissan and get what you are worth. Oh, you are entering the portal. Nice coaching you this season.

If this is our roster next year, maybe give each guy 25K for living expenses and save the rest for the next year. Tell em, you play well, we will give you regular allotment plus what we saved this year. If they don't like the 25K, oh well, we aren't losing anything anyway.

We are going to be bad, possibly really bad, next year. When you have a really bad team, you save your money to get better players the following year.

There are maybe 4 guys on this roster I would offer any amount of money to. The rest can go look for better offers, but none will exist. You just went 8-22. Be glad you even have a D1 scholarships at this level to begin with. Hell, the Drak coach just came from D2 and brought 4 of his starters, and they went 29-3 in that league. You can find players all sorts of places.

I’ll assume we lose a couple. But I don’t expect major transfer turnover. Plus add - probably but who knows - Weaver. I’ve said 3 portal adds max we’ll see if that.

But what if we lose the few guys we likely want back. Tyne I’d say. Soulis bc some development & 3 years left. Certainly Walz but I’m not expecting him at all. The redshirts. But we don’t know if those 2 r A10 level guys. They may not like the school or system idk. As others have said nobody is a must have beyond Walz imo but it could look even worse if we lose the wrong ones relatively speaking.

Tanner, Tyne, Walz,?

I think you need to stay at UR for 2 years to earn an undergrad degree, so I don't see Beagle or AP leaving.
Tanner's been getting a bigger role. Tyne gets all the minutes he could want.
I just don't see anyone opting out.
I'd be surprised if he cuts his nephew or Graham.
so I expect just one spot to fill ... Weaver.

hard to expect much improvement with one transfer.

Walz is the one, I expect could generate a lot of portal interest. The rest of the guys probably not but maybe they want to try playing for a winning team and perhaps in a lower league more commiserate with their skill level.

I wonder if there's less voluntary movement to lower leagues now that it likely comes with an NIL cut.
