A-10 Media Days: 10/27-28

Spiders unsurprisingly picked second. Grant and Gilly on first team, Burton on second team, Gilly on all defensive team.

not sure why the A10 press release says we also return 5 starters; we don’t.

Doesn't say they all were starters last season!

Not at all surprised that Bona was unanimous. They won it last year, rolled through the A-10 tourney, and all of their main guys are back. We're apparently their biggest threat, and we finished 8th last year.

I know this wasn't factored in, but SLU could be in trouble if Perkins' knee injury last night is serious. VCU is down a few significant pieces due to injury. Bona is the clear #1 pick. Doesn't mean they'll end up on top though. We saw what happened to last season's #1 pick.

No but it still feels disingenuous. Unless you r really up to speed on Spiders roster u wouldn’t know we lost our starter leading scorer. Also I’d say it’s standard practice to base it off the prior season only.

My problem with that is apparently they are counting Sherod but don't seem to mention him again...

I just hope that the SBU writer who did an A-10 analysis is correct.
That Sherod will be back to his old form but won't be in our top 10 shooters...

Grant said he's planning to shoot more threes this year....
For the love of god. Yes, he hit some timely ones last year, but in his four years prior he was a career 26% from 3, and Grant does his best work in our offense, operating out of the post, as do most 6'10 college players with his build and skill set. I'm sure opposing offenses would welcome Grant taking more 3's. That is a low percentage shot and leaves are best rebounding option out on the perimeter.

He said the same thing a few years ago, one would hope any comments he made about what he wants out of his game would start and end with wanting to play really good hard nosed defense.

Burton's our best rebounder, yet we have no issue with him on the perimeter.

Grant spends some time beyond the line in our offense. if he's hitting anywhere near 40% like last year on wide open 3, then they're great shots. yes, if' he's hitting 26% then he shouldn't.

an added benefit of Grant shooting open 3's is he most likely pulls the other team's best rebounder and rim protector away from the basket.

He will miss "the remainder of the season." Or, you might say, "the entire season."

Tough break for them. Hope he recovers fully.

I have no problem with Bonnies getting all 1st place votes. Sure - we return a ton of players, but remember - we finished 8th last year. VCU likely would have gotten a vote or two - but they and now St. Louis have suffered major injuries before the season even started. Bonnies won the A10 last year and return their starters, and I am guessing they have added a player or two as well. So yeah - they deserve all the votes.

I think we can beat the Bonnies and win the league. BUT right now, on paper before any real games have been played - advantage goes to the champion, Bonnies.

Yeah it doesn’t bother me at all because we don’t do well with high expectations anyway, it just seemed a little odd given that they return no one but their five starters. An injury or something means they’ve got to throw some untested guys out there into the fire. No doubt that Schmidt will have them ready, and I know their starters play a lot anyway, but it’s just a unique situation.

They have a lot of freshmen they brought in. All they need is two or three to be pretty good, and just like that they have a solid 7 or 8-man rotation. A lot of teams will return two or three starters, maybe return a couple bench guys who got minutes last year, and then use some freshmen to fill out their rotation. So, even though they only return five guys, the fact that they are all five starters puts St Bonaventure well ahead of most teams.
