A10 Tournament, last hope for the season.

Almost certain we'll be in the 8/9 game 12pm Thursday 3/10 in Brooklyn, right? URI ahead of us right now w/ UMass and Fordham left and the tie-breaker over us so unlikely we get to #7. We are 1 game up on Fordham and 2 games up on Duq, SLU, and UMass w/ wins over each of those four schools so pretty unlikely we slip below #9.

(Assuming) We win the 8/9 game, we get the #1 seed 12pm Friday 3/11 - VCU or SJU who you want (although still a chance for Dayton/SBU)? I actually think SJU is a better match up for us and would prefer VCU not have #1 seed so will be rooting for SJU to win out and VCU to lose at Dayton... rather play VCU in the A10 final anyway...

I would feel good about anyone but GMU in the 8/9 game, but it may be impossible for them to get up to 9th at this point. The following game against the 1, I think VCU or SJU would be about the same difficulty, Dayton seems to be in a tail spin currently and SBU is beatable (if we don't let them drain 3s all game). My current preference would be SBU before Dayton before SJU before VCU.

If we somehow happen to win out, what seed would we get in the NCAAs? I would guess 13 or 14.

The Ulla would prefer vdu on the neutral site. Would live this matchup! Roll Spide! OSC

St. Joe's is a terrible matchup for us. I don't want to see them again. Would rather play VCU or Dayton. Assuming we win the first game, which is 50-50.

The VDU game in Brooklyn would not be neutral. VDU would have a 10 to 1 fan support over the Spiders.

33,000 students compared to 2,900 will do that regardless of venue. The only exception would be the Robins Center.
I say bring them on. It would be our third contest with them this year, and I like the odds of us winning one out of three. I don't read their board, but I would bet that their fans would not want to take us on. We beat them twice last year during the regular season, and they beat us in the tournament. I'd love a chance to return the favor.

I agree. We have nothing to lose. We should have beaten them once and were surprisingly competitive for a half over there, despite that fact that we are not good. Beating them in the tourney might keep them out of the NCAAs, depending when we do it. That would salvage something from this disaster of a season.

Was looking at this earlier today also Prez. The 8th seed seems to be UR's spot and that should be a W. Either guys across town or St Joe's probably next up.

Eight, bottom line is vdu is not good. OSC

Maybe you pissed him off. I think that the sarcasm at the end of your post may have been over the line.

Maybe this post is better here.

Well with
Fordham 6-10
Duquesne 5-11
SLU 5-11
UMass 5-11
And all 4 having one tough game but
SLU & UMass also play LaSalle
and Fordham & Duquesne play each other in Pittsburgh.
So if Dukes win they become seed 9, until there is a 4 way tie at 6-12...

Anyone rather play the Dukes again instead of Forham?

Here's a sobering stat: We are in 8th place. We have played 9 games against the 7 teams ahead of us and are 1-8 in those games. We are 6-1 in games against the 6 teams behind us.

We are only able to beat the worst teams in the league.

So far we have only been able to beat the worst teams in the league except for the GW win.

Also means we are what our record says we are...an average A-10 team this year.

Marriage, you need to tone it down, no need for personal attacks -- Ulla over the top

I feel like it says we are below average, honestly. If we finished .500 but had 3 or 4 wins against the top 4 or 5 teams, that would be one thing. At this rate, the most we could have against the top 7 teams is 2 wins. That's really awful, especially given how seemingly competitive the league is this year. Even Mason, Lasalle, St. Louis and UMass (all below us) each have 2 or more wins against the top 7 teams in the league already.

Sorry, Fan1. However, vdu did lose to George Mason and their best out of conference win is Middle Tennessee State (whoever that is?). Fact of the matter is the a10 is worse than ever this year and nearly any team could beat any other team. OSC

A-10 top 3 or 4 are all one and dones in the NCAA

I hate VCU more than most on here, but if they win the A-10 regular season, they will make the NCAAs and should. I would be curious if the A-10 regular season champ has ever been omitted from the field. This is a top-7 league, and winning the regular season always should warrant entry into the field, even for a team like VCU that did nothing OOC.

Eight, you're right but I see them getting 2nd place with losing to Dayton and with Joe's winning their last 2. Still nice record but like has been stated here earlier, who have they beaten outside the A10. I mean Joe's might not have beaten anybody either.

Regardless, vdu's out of conference accomplishments are a killer. Even if they win regular season, it would be unlikely they would get a bid without a couple more wins in the a10 tournament. OSC

St. Joe's not making it would be criminal. They have one road loss all year. Dayton beat a ton of good teams OOC and should be a lock at this point too, despite the recent slide.

I do think if VCU does not win the league outright, then it needs a run in the league tourney. What I hate every year is that even though this is always a top-7 league, it gets criticized when crazy things happen (like Lasalle beating Dayton, for example) like "See, it can't be that good – the last place team beat the first place team!" and that gets used against it in the selection process. Whereas you can typically find similar results like that in other top-7 leagues too, but they don't cause the same reaction. I don't know why that is.

St Joe's (14-2) in 2005 and UMass (13-3 tied) in 2007 though A10 was ranked #14 and #12 for those years. Like you stated as high as league is ranked now, highly doubt it would ever occur again.

Furthermore, I think the 1 seed would prefer to get us than Fordham/Mason.
I agree, playing us is a nice relaxing game for the opponents. No fighting through a tough defense and no competition for rebounds. Also they only have to guard 3 guys when on defense. Team comes out fresh and ready for the next game.

St Joe in 2005 was 3-8 OOC. However in other leagues Washington won the Pac12 (14-4) in 2012 and was left out.

What is spider fan by marriage? It's not something you get with a piece of paper. You're either a spider fan or you're not. You support the spider's especially against arch rivals, you're a spider fan. For instance: if you are a Hippie fan above all others, with UR being a second choice, I'm not sure that qualifies as a spider fan, what does the board think?

Now say you're a UCLA fan first and foremost, but UR is closer and you support UR in all games except on the rare chance we play UCLA, I'd think that does qualify as a spider fan, what say the board?

You constantly bash the A10 ( I'm not coming to defend VCU but defend the league - I think it's pretty decent).

This is odd since you're constantly pumping sunshine about UR. UR hasn't fared well in this "terrible down year A10". Its a pretty good league, if you want to go to the Big East feel free to win it a few times first.
"Pumping sunshine." Didn't take you VCU minions very long to pick up the new buzz words from Willie Wonka. At least we don't have to listen to the havoc crap. Go away to the golden rodent or black ram board.

I'm married to a Spider, live in the area, attend games and watch pretty much every game I don't attend on TV. My alma mater is DIII, so there's no other rooting interest -- I'm all in. And I root against VCU at all times. Ulla has made a number of personal attacks on me, because he seems to think that anyone who disagrees with him on any topic must be a VCU lover. If we really need "the board's" vote on whether I or anyone else is a real fan, this board has sunk lower than I thought it had.
