IMHO, it is wrong to "test" the 30 second shot clock in the NIT. It is very unfair to do that to teams who have been playing under different rules all season. If it gets done, it should be at the beginning of the season, not the end.

Why test it in games that affect teams seasons. NIT not as important as some big non conference games.

FWIW, I liked the 30 second shot clock. I hope they don't change it, but the pace of play was definitely noticeable.

I like it. If you are going to test out new rules on a trial basis, then testing them in a controlled environment with good officials and lots of video is what you need to do. You can't test experimental rules during the regular season, it would put the validity of those games into question. You can't test these games in the NCAA tournament where millions of dollars are on the line every game. You need to test the rules out in a post season tournament with good basketball teams where the stakes aren't really high. The NIT is the perfect place to test out new rules.

I liked the 30 second shot clock very much too. Now take about 2 timeouts per half away from coaches and you've got an improved game.

+1 on the time outs. Way too many.

I guess I'm a conservative old man, who doesn't like change. I'd prefer they stick to the 35 second shot clock. You can always shoot earlier, if you wish. More opportunity to create plays with 35 seconds. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Test it with good officials???? There weren't any of those in RC tonight. Worse officiating than A10 games. Muggings all night but they were calling hand check fouls on us that didn't even happen. Like the 30 sec clock and didn't hurt us but a few times in the game.

Theoretically better.

I'm a traditionalist. Do away with the shot clock altogether and let us play the Louie Mills Mongoose offense.

Midlo, I agree the 30 second clock didn't hurt us anymore than the 35 second clock did. I am glad our guys didn't get hurt during the muggings. Our guards were on the floor often. SDJ hurt one of his wrist in the first half and was shaking it out often.

All in all our guys didn't totally freak out when SF cut it to 3 like they have in the past. Kendall did a nice job of taking over the offensive end and everyone played some nice closing defense. ANO finished with several nice plays.

I remeber one foul call deep in the 2nd half where an offical from 40 or so feet away & behind the players called a foul on us. Neither of the other 2 officials (one of whom was right on top of the play) called the foul. It was awful.

will say again, a lot of calls made during a game are what the official thinks happened not actually what happened. this, by far, is the most difficult game to officiate and a lot of it is because of the physicality which has evolved in the game.

Well we did score 80+ points without an overtime. Was it the shortened shot clock or the competition?

Little of both. If teams like us keep scoring high 70s and 80s, they will keep the 30 second shot clock pretty soon. All they want to see is scoring

Think it was a little of both. We didn't seem to play quite as much "clock" and took what their D gave us. And knew we could hurt them in transition because of how they all crash the offensive glass. Did think Kendall could have pulled back and run little more O on a couple of drives he tried late in 2nd half, but then next couple of times he gashes them for critical points with his quickness. Definitely hard to prepare in 2 days for team you've never played. I'm sure a coach has already done scout on Sun Devils this week and with 3 days prep, think guys will be ready. But then AZST is a better team, so we'll need our A game, especially on defense.

Do away with the shot clock and bring back the four corners. Those games were real fun to watch.

Typically with our style of defense we tend to push the other team to going late into the clock.
I would think with 5 less seconds that is a little bit of an advantage for us. What we have to aware of
is trusting our ball movement and not taking a shot too early without enough touches.

I also thought last night that Trey and Deon had a couple of drives across the lane the could have
shot but instead passed outside and left us with a forced up shot. You got a shot inside the lane you need
to try to take it.
