"Thx Sman. Good point on the moving up/down comment. I think we have plenty of candidates who should move down, but maybe aren't because they feel if they got minutes this past season, they will next season. The problem with that is if a few of them get good minutes next season, we will likely struggle again."

Negative to giving all players NIL and/or Rev Sharing, why would you go down for NO paycheck?

soon we will be seeing Player X transferred to Stonybrook with "cash considerations"

I guess the theory is guys not getting much playing time are not getting paid much esp at a UR and might go lower because they want to play. And so the pay isn't that much of a factor.

also it's not just player's choice. You're cut. i.e being sent down. Pro ball. or u can stay if we have available spot, but we're giving your $ to Maggie and go carry her books too.

I thought Chris said everybody got paid and more the longer you stayed.

yeah he did say something along those lines. idk about the everybody part tho. but the longer you stayed part. I assumed it was for the better players tho. r we really going to pay, as an example, Kirby and Graham $$ to only sit on the bench? especially as we know what we have as guys r older. think Conor Smith. if someone like him had roster spot 4 years fine but why would u be paying him. let's even see if we have many 4-5 year guys going forward. It's tbd. Walz is 4 year guy but also earned something.

I’m guessing we posters will never know the $ distribution to UR players? That would be interesting to see.
Yes it's starting to annoy me in general, not just with us. Rick Pitino says that RJ Luis and the big guy were not big $ NIL guys. But Pitino lives in the same house he did when coached at Iona, and he claimed he did know where St Johns was :). And SDSU fans say they can't compete with P6 money, yet they got $million playing in the NIL early season event.

and there isn’t anything positive to read.
Absolutely right. Moon has a bottom tier roster, and unless we get a couple more defections does not really have the ability to get players. And he has gone to 3 NCAA's in 20 years, but you are in the "he is a nice guy and wears suits, and NO convictions so he is doing a good job at our leafy campus" crowd. Hopefully Rodney does not see your avatar and decide on UMBC.

Honestly, he should tell a few of the players that they are free to transfer.

I would keep Walz, Tanner and Tyne, but that is just me.

Based on Fan1's feedback on 4 positions, I would think he had that conversation with a couple guys. But not sure who they will be. Would think Beagle would want to get out as he just seemed like a fish out of water in our system. Who do we think the other guy is? AP showed some flashes. Mooney claimed Tanner was ahead of Dji at the same point.

Without knowing what other A 10 teams have coming in next year, I think Walz could at least be a 3rd team all conference. Just get him involved and keep him in the game for at least 25-30 minutes per game. I know many on this board aren't really all in on Tanner but I saw some fight and grit with him as the season progressed. Tyne could be a starter or a good back-up since he does have experience.

Just from the transfer interest I have seen on here in the last few days, it does seem like Mooney is going after some hard nosed players. Maybe not the greatest shooters, but how did that work out last season with all of the great shooters that he brought in.

Change it up. Quit recruiting the same type of players that haven't been getting it done previously.

Maybe the Moon man has had an "a-ha" moment.

Time will tell

what if it's 1 of the 2 who redshirted...they actually have most leverage with rev share right now even tho they've done nothing. because it would look really bad & we don't have much returning. if they were smart they would be like um Moon man I'm thinking about entering the portal. cha-ching.

so take this for what it's worth ... 3rd or 4th party hearsay from a guy who knows a guy with a kid at an NIL paying school. no idea if Richmond operates the same way, but:

each kid's NIL is deterimined by the coaches who basically have a budget. "what'll it take to keep this guy" (assuming we want to). it's not negotiated. take it or leave it. and it's already been discussed in a post season closing "interview" type setting before the portal opens. it's not "everyone gets $x". there's a hierarchy. the kids all talk. they know what everyone is getting. and giving a kid a weak or no NIL is like pre-NIL days telling a kid we don't see you getting on the floor next year.

That makes sense sman. I guess this model is probably contingent on the conference too. For instance, a player that was a freshman at Iona this season. He played a good deal, and started part of year. Spoke with his dad last year and he said he was getting something like $4K per semester, if he keeps certain GPA.

So think the A10 is probably much above that and more in the model you mentioned, but lower leagues not so much. Of course supposedly Geriot is coming in with a whole new model at Iona, based on media reports and his rich dad (kidding :)). But yes, I imagine at our level if they give you a weak a$$ offer, it means hit the portal buddy.

Interesting. Of course his dad is one of my favorite Spiders, and I believe one of the best to ever wear a uniform. Drafted second round by world champion Rockets. I had been checking out Liberty box scores and did not see Curtis in their much at all, so wondered what was going on. Anyone that saw him at Steward school, what type of athlete was he? Wonder if Liberty just had better older guys in front, or is he lacking some athletic ability. If he can play, would love to see him in a Spider uniform.

says he originally signed with Liberty over offers from Richmond, Virginia Tech, and Florida.
South Alabama and Tulsa were also recruiting him hard prior to his commitment to the Flames.

So - how many walk ons do we have as placeholders limiting our ability to free up for portal? Is it 2? Same question about scholarship guys that probably only mostly ride the pine. Seems like right now we have limited ability to bring in new players. How aggressive can and will Moon be in persuading them to look elsewhere?

I see his dad reasonably frequently, and we talk basketball. Really nice guy and was top notch player at UR. I’ll probably ask about this next time.

He's just being sensible

up to 15 scholarships total (partials are now allowed, but 15 total roster spots)
current scholarships in their eligibility year next fall:
3 seniors (Walz, Beagle, AP)
2 juniors (Tanner, Tyne)
1 sophomore (Soulis)
5 freshmen (McGlothin, Robinson, Richardson, Harper, Argabright)
11 total

2 spots (minimum) are to be filled. waiting on word about walk ons J Graham and K Mooney. if they're scholarshipped or just kept on the roster, then we should expect to add 2. but someone said they expect 4 guys total to transfer out. we only know of 2 so far. if 2 more leave, then we're adding at least 4 and up to 6.

Here’s who I would love to get based on who we’ve been in contact with and there seems to be mutual interest.

1. Simmons a PG out of Gardner Webb
2. Boyd a guard out of Charleston
3. Duggan a forward out of Campbell

If we have another opening spot, let’s get a strong defensive player, and I’ll feel better about our chances going into next season.

Boyd looks nice, but I'll only get excited about guys giving us a visit.
Simmons II, Duggan, Doumbia and Panoam so far.
