I am not focusing on cost. I am focusing on our schedule and a good way to get 2 majors on the schedule. If we play back to back, with a day off in between, we only need a small window to make both games happen. If we try to find two separate games spread out, we now need two windows to make 2 games happen. I really don't care how we get them or when we play them. It just needs to happen.Getting even one of these games has proven tough. Finding two schools in close proximity with dates that work for everyone seems to make it more than twice as hard.
We fly charter...unless we're talking cross-country like USC/UCLA like you mention, it's not a huge deal. And if we're a buy game, they're gonna be paying us $100K, we can afford an out and back.
Looks like they were able to check off quite a few boxes. Nice work by the American staff.American filling the coffers with some high major buy games.
Use this money to pay the players. And get paid to play at their home site.
Didn’t we play Auburn with no return game last year?If we haven't bought into the road only approach at majors yet, it is long overdue. The A-10 is not what it used to be, and we can't expect to get even 2 for 1s with majors right now. Just play true road games like American is doing.
Yes, but nothing so far this year.Didn’t we play Auburn with no return game last year?
Right, Auburn was signed over the summer last year, be patient and let miracles happen.Yes, but nothing so far this year.
You worry too much! I hope you don’t have ulcers 🙏We need more than 1 good game on our schedule. We need at least 3 in my opinion at a minimum. We've got zero on the board.
Penn State usually plays a pretty non-descript OOC. They aren't good enough to get the neutral site games against high quality BCS program, they play a lot of garbage teams. I'd think their would be an opportunity for us with them especially with the Rhodes-Mooney connections.I wonder if UR reaches our to Penn State. With Rhoades being the coach there now, I am sure he would like to get to the Virginia area every once in a while just for personal reasons. Don't see why a home and home couldn't be discussed with them. Plus - at this point, we would be an easier win than playing VCU.
That's part of my reason for posting this, we heard how they went way back together to roots in PA, and everything, but no game for us. Our coach doesn't seem to have the gravitas or charisma to leverage those relationships to games on the court as often as one would hope or expect.I'd think their would be an opportunity for us with them especially with the Rhodes-Mooney connections.
Yeah, I do think we have a good chance of getting a home game with them, but go up to Happy Valley and play a game. They are tough at home but Bryce Jordan is no Beaver Stadium. The basketball arena is typically half empty unless it is a really big game.Their game at New Haven will be their first true OOC road game since 2022 when they played at Clemson in the ACC/B10 challenge and at Illinois.
And give them bonuses for winning.Use this money to pay the players.
Big 10 and SEC schools are pretty much guaranteed to be Top 100, unless they are just abjectly terrible. At this point I would be find playing PSU at their place 3 straight years in hopes of getting a good game on the schedule. They were 66 in the NET last year with a 16-15 record. Pretty safe to assume they will almost always be a top 100 NET team.
would the Spiders be a quad 4 opponent based on last year’s record?Georgia with the prototyical high major OOC schedule.
Rocco said Georgia's 2025-26 OOC schedule includes eight "projected" Quad 4 opponents.would the Spiders be a quad 4 opponent based on last year’s record?
If so, should’t we be about to secure P5 games like this murderers row of Q4s?
Go Spiders!
I will imagine this is just another reason for P5 teams to stay away from up and down mid-majors like us because with the portal, you never know what we are going to be. Look at the last 2 years. 1 year - we win the A10 regular season (after a horrible OOC), and then next year we are a quad 4 team with just 10 wins. In the past - without all the transfers, you could predict somewhat how good a team might be by looking at returners - team X won 19 games last year, but returns the entire starting 5, you probably feel pretty good about them. Team Y won 10 games last year, and only return 1 player - probably not looking good. So unless your a mid-major that just keeps on winning year in and out (ala VCU) - it might be even harder to secure games now with the portal, cause we could be a Quad 4 win, we would be a Quad 2 upset, who knows.Rocco said Georgia's 2025-26 OOC schedule includes eight "projected" Quad 4 opponents.
were definitely a Quad 4 last year, but I'm hoping we're not projected to be Quad 4 this season ... but who knows?
you sure you weren't dreaming?Just happened to be getting in the car and heard our esteemed leader on the vcu radio station (910) doing a long interview. Glad I hadn't started driving yet because I probably would have crashed through a building when I heard him say: "I think I did a really poor job coaching the team" when the host asked him what he learned from last season.
