2024 Presidential Election

The GOP is on track to win Senate seats in PA, WI, MI, NV. They already flipped WV, MT and Ohio Senate seats. That gives Republicans a 55-45 margin.

Yes, the Repubs now own every problem created by the Biden/Harris Admin. Hoping a differing tack will solve them. That hope got them elected.

Circling back to name calling which I abhor. Trump name calls his opponent. In contrast the Dems name call over half the country on a regular basis.

On the negative side, the nation just elected a convict dictator who will do everything he can to end our current system of government and devalue science. But hey, on the positive side, maybe we'll all save a few bucks on groceries next year! Seems like a fair tradeoff.

The price of a single family home, with 3 BR and 1 bath and 1,100 SF, in West Henrico doubled from 2019 to 2022 from 150,000 to 320,000. That put the price of a starter home out of reach for many adults. That is not groceries, it is a permanent increase in the cost of housing as a result of Biden's push of trillions of dollars into the economy. It is too much money chasing too few goods.

Time will tell. Trump is hellbent on retribution, and undoing everything 'Scary Black Man' did. He doesn't believe in science, he has a vocabulary of about 12 words, and he's taken every page out of Hitler's book so far. You can laugh all you want, but every sign is there for what he's trying to do. I hope there are at least a few rational Republicans left who will stop him, but I am not holding my breath.

Step away from the ledge. The Brown Shirts are not knocking on your door. However, the Brown Shirts have been after the newly elected President of the United States.

Keep in mind that Trump was hounded for 2.5 years by an independent counsel investigation that found no collusion with Russia. He was impeached twice on highly partisan grounds. He has been subjected to lawfare from multiple angles, resulting in at least 4 criminal cases and one civil case filed against him.

Those who was the law as a weapon to silence political opponents are the fascists. We are a country of laws, not of men.

Remember, Donald Trump is due to be sentenced on November 26 for the 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to influence the 2016 election by hiding a payment to Stormy Daniels. Keep in mind that the payment was made in 2017, after the election. He was also subjected to a civil trial that resulted in a $460M judgment against the President-elect.

It would be the height of irony for that singular jurist, Juan Marchan, to sentence Trump to jail time.

If these cases continue, expect Trump's Justice Department to pursue both Joe Biden and Hunter Biden to the fullest extent of the law. Joe Biden will not be in office and could very well spend the rest of his life in jail.

You must have amnesia or a failing memory. Do you not remember that Trump through Barr appointed David Weiss specifically to investigate alleged crimes by the Bidens made up by the Republicans. And what did Weiss find? That Hunter lied on an affidavit and failed to file a tax return. Crimes that would have been dropped if Hunter Biden were an ordinary citizen. Please stop with the lawfare crap. Your guy won, he will pardon himself for all federal crimes that if a Democrat had committed chronic whiners Gym Jordan and Comer would be going crazy over.

But you could be right. Once Trump is in there he will probabaly direct his Justice Dept. to investigate and charge some garbage crimes against all of his political enemies including the Bidens, Adam Schiff and Liz Cheney. You know, just like his idol Putin does.

We've seem this before recently. No?

Always enjoyed VP Harris saying it was time to turn the page. Her only problem was she was on the page.

Please provide your evidence that Biden directed Garland to investigate Trump. Its probably that Trump said so, and I would assume you at least agree that Trump is a pathological liar. And if Biden did not interfere with the investigation of his own son, I doubt he would have directed Garland to go after Trump. Garland went after Trump because he had real evidence that was presented to a grand jury. Trump was not charged with garbage crimes, and if Biden had done exactly what Trump did you would have been all over Biden.

What a contrast between Harris and Trump after losing an election. Harris, and also Biden, called Trump and congratulated him on his win. After all he has said and lied so much about the two of them, that had to be extremely difficult. And Harris gave a concession speech. Harris called for the peaceful transition of power, no allegations of voter fraud, no looking for every way to void an election, no calls for violence. And Biden's team will cooperate with the transition, although Trump's team probably doesn't care about that. Harris and Biden care about our country, Trump does not. He only cares about himself. Looks like he will have the House in addition to the Senate, and has the Supreme Court in his back pocket. He can do whatever he wants to with no one willing to challenge him. Heaven help us.

He will own every problem.

He will own every problem.
He has to fix every problem created by Biden and Harris. That is a tall order, but a lot of it is easy.

Immigration- shut down the border with Mexico, until Mexico fixes the issue, build the wall, remove illegal criminals from our streets- send the illegals back to Mexico while their cases are resolved.
Inflation- drive down the cost of transporting goods throughout the US, cut regulations, increase domestic production of gas and oil, eliminate the war on fossil fuels, remove the moratorium on construction of LNG terminals on the East Coast, increase sales of LNG to Europe, etc.
Inflation- cut wasteful government spending. Institute all cost cutting moves supported by the Musk Commission. Eliminate all mandates for EVs, Modify the Administrative Procedures Act to make it easier to use to lower regulations placed on the country.
Iran- Reinstitute all sanctions on Iran. Destroy Iran's ability to sell oil on the open market. Shut down Iran's economy. Drive down the price of oil.
Russia- Drive down the price of oil, heavily enforce all sanctions on Russia, sanction all sales of gas and oil from Russia to Europe and India, etc.
China- eliminate all mandates for EVs, eliminate all tax credits for EVs, institute tariffs on Chinese goods, force China to stop supplying Russia. Force China to shut down its massive EV plant in Mexico.
Climate Change- support an all of the above policy for the development of new sources of low CO2 emissions for electricity. Sanction Chinese goods that come from dirty fossil fuel production.

Please stop with the lawfare crap.
No truer words were spoken.

There are at least 8+ major lawfare actions proceeding against Trump- 2 are federal (instituted by Biden's Justice Department, 2 are state criminal cases, 4 or more are state civil and criminal actions. None of these cases should continue.

The NY fraud case (Juan Marchan) will result in sentences passed down on November 26.

Here is a good Politico article discussing the trials. It starts out-
" Donald Trump didn’t just beat Kamala Harris. He beat the system that tried to put him in jail.

He was already the first former president ever to be charged with and convicted of felonies. Now he has become the first convicted felon ever to win a presidential election. And his victory virtually guarantees that he will never face serious legal accountability for an avalanche of alleged wrongdoing."

No, he beat criminal charges that he deserved to be charged with because he committed crimes. You okay with him trying to overthrow the 2020 election? You okay with him pressuring the Georgia secretary of state to find enough votes for him to win Georgia? I guess you are. You okay with him taking classified top secret documents to his country club residence, not returning them when asked to, then returning some and having his attorney sign a false affidavit that all had been returned while trying to hide the remaining classified documents? I guess you are. Please stop with the lawfare crap and I can't wait to see what you say if Trump goes after Cheney, Schiff and others who have called him out for what he is.

And I hope you like what Orban has done in Hungary, its exactly what Trump plans to do here. Last night, Orban posted on social media that he had just spoken with Trump, and said "We have big plans for the future!".

The election is over. The American people have exercised their opportunity to vote and chose who they wanted. Thankful we live in a democracy or more accurately a democratic republic. Have trouble understanding the mindset that if one didn't support my candidate criticism is poured out. Every human being is fallible and the best place for each of us to direct criticism is at ourselves. It is called "humility" and rarely seen. It is one of the reasons I have great respect for former UVA coach Tony Bennett.

Say goodbye to Trump’s legal cases

Here’s how it all unravels:

Firing Jack Smith- 2 federal cases, Trump has promised to fire Jack Smith within 2 seconds of taking office. For the immediate future, Smith’s cases remain pending. In Washington, where Trump faces four felony counts for conspiring to steal another term four years ago, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has set a series of filing deadlines in November and December. Expect Trump’s attorneys to ask Chutkan to call off those deadlines given Trump’s imminent ascent to the White House.

Fani Willis' Fizzle- Even if Willis wins the right to resume the case, Trump will seek to have the charges tossed out or, failing that, put on hold for the duration of his presidency.

A dilemma for Juan Merchan- Should Merchan proceed with the sentencing as scheduled, he’ll face the unprecedented task of deciding whether to impose a prison sentence of up to four years on a defendant who is set to occupy the White House come January. If he does order Trump to prison, Trump almost certainly won’t be required to serve that sentence until after he leaves office in 2029

The Civil Cases- There is no prohibition against collecting private civil damages from the occupant of the White House.
The fraud case- a Manhattan trial judge imposed penalties of more than $450 million on Trump for fraudulently inflating his net worth.
The Carroll Cases- Trump also owes $88 million for two judgments that the writer E. Jean Carroll won against him. Federal juries in New York found that Trump sexually abused Carroll in a department store dressing room in the 1990s and then defamed her decades later when she went public with her story.
The Jan. 6 cases- Another source of potential civil liability stems from Trump’s role in stoking the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Police officers who were injured by the mob and members of Congress who fled in fear have sued Trump for damages, alleging that he bears legal responsibility for the violence.

I wonder how well it would have gone over if Biden had pulled some strings to get his son off from the charges that he faced? And yet, here we have a president who will be able to wipe away his own legal issues and no one objects to it. I know, I know: Hunter was DEFINITELY GUILTY, while Trump was clearly being victimized by the bad Democrats. Is that about right?

There's a word for having absolute power as the leader of as nation, I just can't remember what it is...

You make some excellent points. Did you hear Biden's speech today? You may not have liked his policies, but he is a class act and a good human being. He repeated "You can't love this country only when you win". If you haven't listened to it, I suggest you do so to see how its supposed to be done.

Compare that to the disgusting display Trump put on when he lost in 2020. There is no comparison. And now the youth of this country see a liar and a bully get elected as President despite committing crimes that he is going to get away with. The President is supposed to be someone our youth looks up to. Would you want your child or grandchild in a school with kids who act like Trump? Or would you want your child or grandchild to act like Trump? Do you think Trump is humble? Trump is about as far away from Tony Bennett as one can get.

And suddenly it's OK to acknowledge Project 2025 was their agenda all along, even though Grover Trump and all his toadies said they know nothing about it.

Sometimes the best cure for Republicanism is four years of Republican rule, during which they **** up everything imaginable and get absolutely nothing done, ie Grover Trump's first administration. Also, how coincidental that Grover Cleveland was also a rapist, racist and misogynist.

How about trying something different to bring the country together? Enough with the politicalization of the Justice Department.

Biden pardons Trump of "alleged" Federal crimes and when Trump takes office, he pardons Hunter of the same?

Personally, I'm sick of this hyper partisan sickness. Lets solve problems together, meeting in the middle.

With Trump winning the popular vote this time, this is who the US is. I prefer to think of it as a characterization but it is likely an embodiment.

He won despite being Trump and that is 100% on the Dems. Folks held their noses and voted for him bc the alternative was worse.

Did folks really want 10 millions more indigents, largely unvetted, walking across the border with an Admin seemingly waving a green flag while we are 35 trillion in debt?

Did folks fail to recognize grocery prices up 20% bc of ridiculous fiscal policy?

Did folks not flinch in embarrassment over the manner in which we exited Afghanistan and the weakness it exhibited which spawned our adversaries to go on the march?

Did folks not see a candidate avoid all contact with the press for 40 days after "coronation" while they tried to coach her up? When she came out, couldn't answer the most basic questions.

The folks aren't dumb. They saw what they saw. Biden Admin was a disaster. The folks had had enough as evidenced by election results. Who would want four more years of dysfunction?

Who would want four more years of dysfunction? Anyone that voted for Trump.

Not a Trumpster, but his 4 years empirically vs Biden's is a slam dunk for him.
I will not get into an extended debate with anyone over this, but it all depends upon which metrics you're considering. And there are a lot of metrics that show Biden did a MUCH better job. There are areas like job creation, private manufacturing investment, energy production, number of people with health insurance, infrastructure investment and others where, to use your word "empirically", Biden clearly outperformed Trump and there are solid numbers to back that up. You think Biden's been a disaster and you're welcome to feel that way. But what you think is a slam dunk is anything but on a lot of metrics. I just think people make a blanket statement that is mostly based on feelings rather than actual measurable things which I prefer..

What day can we Democrats schedule our assault on the Capitol so we can vandalize the place, cause the deaths of a few Capitol policemen, put the fear of God into our elected representatives so guys like Ted Cruz hide in a closet, threaten to kill Mike Johnson, call it a GOP false-flag operation, and then forget all about it within a month or two?

If you think Grover Trump's economic policies are going to reduce the national debt or cut prices, you're crazy. He promised he'd cut the cost of gas in half a month or two after taking office. Somehow I don't think I'll be paying $1.60 a gallon come March. He will, however, take full credit for the Biden economy, just as he did for the Obama economy.

Well said 204 and 5. In addition, Biden helped strengthen NATO and 2 new members were added, he created strong alliances in the Asian Pacific Indian realm, and led the effort in coordinating our allies to support Ukraine against Trump's idol Putin. The damage that Trump had caused with our world allies was repaired.

We'll see what Trump does in these areas, but I am not optimistic that Trump will maintain what Biden did, because it doesn't benefit Trump to do so, especially since his idol Putin will be pushing for the US to back off supporting NATO and Ukraine.

Long Time - My issue with KE was largely based on the words "empirically" and "disaster." People are free to feel however they want but in what should be a fact-based evaluation Biden puts Trump to shame. There are a whole host of Biden accomplishments that are less measurable but are equally/more significant as you correctly point out. That's why I'm not going to go tit-for-tat on this board with people who feel a certain way. There are probably some metrics that favor Trump and people are welcome to consider those in making a comparison. I'm not interested in trying to change any minds on here. I just object to asserting opinions/feelings as facts.

Section 204/205

Appreciate your civil response to assertions that you disagree with. Need more of that in our nation. Like you, have neither time nor inclination to get into an extended debate.

Will say, stand by my post. Inflation was a non issue. Illegal immigration was in check for the first time in decades. Minority unemployment hit record lows. Blue collar wages grew more rapidly than under his successor. Iran was on its knees, crippled by lack of oil revenue to foment unrest in the Middle East. Did not get us involved any foreign wars. No American soldier killed in 18 months in Afghanistan.

Biden reversed all of these policy based results. His numbers are inflated bc of the bounce back from Covid (which Trump handled extremely poorly other than fast tracking vaccine research). So stand by the post, Biden Admin was a disaster.

Agree to disagree politically...but on Spider basketball sure we agree, loved what we saw in the opener.

Here's his quote about ending the war in Ukraine, bloviated on Hannity in 2023:

“I would fix that within 24 hours. And, if I win, before I get into the office, I will have that war settled. A hundred percent sure."

It's been 48+ hours. Lying again.
